This paper presented an analytical tool, based on the cost-benefit analysis instrument, intended to be used to estimate both the financial and economic impacts related to the implementation of policy actions and/or projects (interventions) in the field of energy efficiency. The proposed guidelines are intended to provide relevant information and guidance on why and how to conduct financial and economic assessment to a relatively large number of institutions involved in the preparation and appraisal of energy efficiency actions Keywords: Economic, Evaluation, Policy, Energy, Efficiency JEL Classifications: P18; Q51; Q58 DOI: https://doi.org/10.32479/ijeep.771

    Cloud e-learning for mechatronics: CLEM

    Get PDF
his paper describes results of the CLEM project, Cloud E-learning for Mechatronics. CLEM is an example of a domain-specific cloud that is especially tuned to the needs of VET (Vocational, Education and Training) teachers. An interesting development has been the creation of remote laboratories in the cloud. Learners can access such laboratories to support their practical learning of mechatronics without the need to set up laboratories at their own institutions. The cloud infrastructure enables multiple laboratories to come together virtually to create an ecosystem for educators and learners. From such a system, educators can pick and mix materials to create suitable courses for their students and the learners can experience different types of devices and laboratories through the cloud. The paper provides an overview of this new cloud-based e-learning approach and presents the results. The paper explains how the use of cloud computing has enabled the development of a new method, showing how a holistic e-learning experience can be obtained through use of static, dynamic and interactive material together with facilities for collaboration and innovation

Sensor Platform for Data Management Services in the European Tool Making Industry

    No full text
Data Management is one of the critical points of the tool industry since all applications are heavily based on the industrial data processing (mould, machine, etc..) as well as the business process that are enabled thanks to such data and their smart interpretation. This paper gives a brief overview of a software architecture for sensor platform for Data Management Services that could be implemented into the European Tool Making Industry

Optimization model for production scheduling taking into account preventive maintenance in an uncertainty-based production system

In the dynamic yet uncertain environment of Industry 4.0, industrial companies are utilizing the benefits of contemporary technologies in manufacturing by striving to implement optimization models in each stage of the decision-making process. Many organizations are focusing particularly on the optimization of two key aspects of the manufacturing process - production schedules and maintenance plans. This article presents a mathematical model with the main advantage of finding a valid production schedule (if such exists) for the distribution of individual production orders on the available production lines over a specified period. The model further considers the scheduled preventive maintenance activities on the production lines, as well as the preferences of the production planners regarding the start of the production orders and non-use of certain machines. When necessary, it also offers the possibility to make timely changes in the production schedule, and thus to handle the uncertainty as precisely as possible. For the verification of the model, two experiments were conducted (quasi-real and real-life), with data from a discrete automotive manufacturer of locking systems. The results from the sensitivity analysis demonstrated that the model further optimizes the execution times of all orders, and specifically the production lines usage - their optimal load and non-use of unnecessary machines (valid plan with 4 out of 12 lines not used). This allows for cost savings and raises the overall efficiency of the production process. Thus, the model adds value for the organization by presenting a production plan with optimal machine usage and product allocation. If incorporated into an ERP system, it could distinctly save time and streamline the production scheduling process

An approach to design a distributed knowledge-based platform for energy efficient cities

    No full text
In this paper is presented an approach to design distributed knowledge-based software environment for energy efficient cities. All data gathered by the smart tools at domestic or public facilities can be accessed by the platform. Energy savings can be achieved as result from an optimized mix of both condition-based and preventive energy losses services that followed an online analysis of collected data. Algorithms and methods for an intelligent interpretation of the collected data can be developed within the platform in order to monitor the energy consumption process. Simulation of different scenarios forecasting the consumer’s further behaviour in energy consumption will be the result of that intelligent interpretation

Towards Big Data and Internet of Things as Key Aspects of Energy Efficiency

    No full text
In the energy industry, smart metering and sensor technology provides access to unprecedented amount of information, thus rapidly expanding a dissimilar and compound big set of data which is handled by the Energy Management Systems. This manuscript per the authors presents a generic architecture of Energy Management System suited to handle structured, semi-structured and unstructured data, coming from various sources in a heterogeneous workload. The paper focuses on the main operational subsystems and the database management challenge in the Internet of Things
