An inquiry into the homosexuality debate regarding the place of Christian scripture and a Christian sex-ethics

This dissertation inquires into some major excerpts of the contemporary discourse on Homosexuality in the Church with a special interest for its implications regarding an ethics of sex that can be or ought to be maintained by Christian ecclesiastical communities today. The predominate aim is to evaluate the place of Christian Scripture in the scholarly discussion particularly in view of some recent proposed approaches that challenge the traditional use of it for questions on human sexuality. The question whether the Bible's vision of sexuality is still of relevance and acceptable for today or whether it is necessary to depart from it due to the demands of the contemporary situation plays a major role in this work

Prävalenz von Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato und Babesia spp. in Ixodes ricinus-Zecken im Naherholungsgebiet Zeitzgrund in Thüringen

Borrelia burgdorferi s.l. und Babesia spp. sind wichtige durch Zecken übertragene Krankheitserreger, die in den letzten Jahren immer mehr in den Blickpunkt des öffentlichen Interesses geraten sind. In dieser Studie wurden 1000 nüchterne Ixodes ricinus-Zecken in den Jahren 2006 und 2007 von März bis Oktober im Zeitzgrund/Stadtroda gesammelt. Über Amplifikation eines Bereichs des ospA-Gens der Borrelien und des 18S-rRNA-Gens der Babesien konnten die Prävalenzen beider Erreger, sowie auftretende Koinfektionen ermittelt werden. Über die Babesien- Prävalenz in Ixodes ricinus-Zecken gibt es aus Deutschland bisher kaum Daten, doch der erste autochthone Fall einer humanen Babesia microti-Infektion in Europa stammte aus Thüringen und war damit Anlass dieser Dissertation. Für Babesia spp. ergab sich eine Prävalenz von 5,0% in den untersuchten Zecken. Borrelia burgdorferi s.l. konnte in 27,0% der Zecken mittels PCR nachgewiesen werden. Die Infektionsraten in den adulten Zecken waren für beide Erreger signifikant höher als in den untersuchten Nymphen. Mittels RFLP-Analyse wurden die B. burgdorferi s.l.- Spezies und OspA-Typen weiter differenziert, wobei B. garinii besonders Serotyp 6 am häufigsten vertreten war, gefolgt von B. burgdorferi sensu stricto, B. afzelii, B. valaisiana. Es konnten aber auch die seltenen Spezies B. lusitaniae und die neu entdeckte B. spielmanii-Spezies gefunden werden. 1,4% der Zecken traten als Doppelinfektionen mit verschiedenen B. burgdorferi s.l.-Subtypen in Erscheinung und auch Koinfektionen mit Borrelien und Babesien konnten in 1,6% bestätigt werden. Mit den entsprechenden Ergebnissen dieser Arbeit wird ein wichtiger Beitrag zur Epidemiologie der durch Zecken übertragenen Infektionskrankheiten der Borreliose und Babesiose für Thüringen geleistet

MEMEING AGAINST MAINSTREAM. AN ANALYSIS OF DANK MEMES AND THE PICTORIAL (COUNTER-)PRACTICES OF MEME CULTURE

Internet memes are now part of mainstream media culture. On social media, each day memes are created, consumed, and shared by millions of people. Advertising agencies create their own memes to promote brands and products. However, memes are also integral to subcultures on 4chan, Reddit, and Tumblr, where most memes originate from. These subcultures battle the mainstreamization of memes to protect the independent media making practice of memeing from outsiders, who they call ‘normies.’ Their weapon of choice are so-called ‘dank memes,’ which are self-reflexive internet memes that criticize mainstream memes and memeing. This critique is a form of visual vernacular criticism, which is highly understudied, especially in regard to digital metapictures such as dank memes. The question this paper wants to answer is: how are dank memes made and employed to reclaim the independent media making practice of memeing from mainstream and marketing culture? The focus lies on specific pictorial practices that counteract the popularization and commercialization of internet memes. To explore these counter-practices, the paper proposes a methodology that combines media philosophy with practice theory to stress that digital metapictures themselves such as dank memes hold knowledge about the media practices that mainstream memes are made of, and about how to counteract them. To explore this media knowledge, examples of the meta-meme _Memes Then, Memes Now_ are closely examined in the context of the subreddit r/dankmemes. The conducted picture practice analysis suggests that dank memes oppose image macros, while being criticized themselves as mere shibboleths to meme culture
