Introduction: Analytic, Continental and the question of a bridge

The analytic and Continental divide is one such division. Inpolitical philosophy and political theory, the division has been particularly pronounced.Analytic and Continental thinkers are divided not only over substantial issues but also over the very nature of political theorising. In spite of this fundamental nature, theorists often seem to assume that, as a division, the analytic/Continental divide requires no explanation. We suggest that, as a central division within political theory, and despite being acknowledged as problematic for quite some time, it has persisted because it has not been adequately examined. Once examined, the division turns out to be operationally weaker than it once was. In recent years, there has been a growing interest in engaging thinkers from the other side. This has been accompanied by a corresponding tendency, among both analytic and Continental philosophers and political thinkers, to reflect on the nature of their own tradition and ‘philosophy’. Both traditions have entered a self-conscious period of meta-reflection. Such questioning indicates the possibility of transformation within both groups, in the absence of settled frameworks and divisions. However, it is also clear that such signs are the beginning of the possibility of a new relation rather than a sign of the eclipse of the division. The continued institutional separation and the space between their respective philosophical vocabularies suggest that, while the time is ripe for work here, there is still much to be done
Induced p-wave superfluidity in strongly interacting imbalanced Fermi gases
The induced interaction among the majority spin species, due to the presence
of the minority species, is computed for the case of a population-imbalanced
resonantly-interacting Fermi gas. It is shown that this interaction leads to an
instability, at low temperatures, of the recently observed polaron Fermi liquid
phase of strongly imbalanced Fermi gases to a p-wave superfluid state. We find
that the associated transition temperature, while quite small in the weakly
interacting BCS regime, is experimentally accessible in the strongly
interacting unitary regime.Comment: Published versio
Parasites of Civets (Mammalia, Viverridae) in Sabah, Borneo: A Coprological Survey
Parasite data were collected from unlogged and selectively logged lowland rain forests in Borneo. Scat from a female Viverra tangalunga (Malay civet) in the unlogged forest contained eggs of Capillaria spp., Trichuris sp., Mamomoganomus sp., and nematode larvae. Scat attributed to V. tangalunga contained reproductive products (eggs/oocysts/cysts/larvae) of Capillaria sp., Toxocara sp., Ancylostoma sp. (probably A. ceylanicum), Isospora spp., strongylate-type eggs (probably Ancylostoma spp.), Paragoni mus sp. and other Trematoda eggs, Monocystis sp. cysts, Gnathostoma sp. (probably G. spinigerum), the lungworm Viverrostrongylus brauni, pinworm-type eggs, Eimeria spp., Sarcocystis-type sporocyst, dermanysid mites and mesostigmatid mites. Parasites from gut samples from two Hemigalus derbyanus (banded palm civets) road kills included Capil laria sp., other trematode eggs, Demodex-type eggs, Ascarid-type eggs and pinworm-type eggs. Gut contents from a Pardoxurus hermaphrodites (common palm civet) road kill contained Eimeria oocysts, Monocystis cysts and possibly Ascaridia eggs. Because many parasite groups detected have intermediate and definitive hosts that are prey species, some parasite products observed may be transmitted through predation or may be internal or external parasites of prey items. Species richness and diversity of gut parasites were similar between sites.The higher incidence of coccidia and Viverrostrongylus brauni in the logged forest, and hookworms in the unlogged forest may be related to dietary differences between sites
Identifying Agile Requirements Engineering Patterns in Industry
Agile Software Development (ASD) is gaining in popularity in today´s business world. Industry is adopting agile methodologies both to accelerate value delivery and to enhance the ability to deal with changing requirements. However, ASD has a great impact on how Requirements Engineering (RE) is carried out in agile environments. The integration of Human-Centered Design (HCD) plays an important role due to the focus on user and stakeholder involvement. To this end, we aim to introduce agile RE patterns as main objective of this paper. On the one hand, we will describe our pattern mining process based on empirical research in literature and industry. On the other hand, we will discuss our results and provide two examples of agile RE patterns. In sum, the pattern mining process identifies 41 agile RE patterns. The Dynamics of Galaxy Pairs in a Cosmological Setting
We use the Millennium Simulation, and an abundance-matching framework, to
investigate the dynamical behaviour of galaxy pairs embedded in a cosmological
context. Our main galaxy-pair sample, selected to have separations under 250
kpc/h, consists of over 1.3 million pairs at redshift z = 0, with stellar
masses greater than 10^9 Msun, probing mass ratios down to 1:1000. We use dark
matter halo membership and energy to classify our galaxy pairs. In terms of
halo membership, central-satellite pairs tend to be in isolation (in relation
to external more massive galaxies), are energetically- bound to each other, and
are also weakly-bound to a neighbouring massive galaxy. Satellite-satellite
pairs, instead, inhabit regions in close proximity to a more massive galaxy,
are energetically-unbound, and are often bound to that neighbour. We find that
60% of our paired galaxies are bound to both their companion and to a third
external object. Moreover, only 9% of our pairs resemble the kind of systems
described by idealised binary merger simulations in complete isolation. In sum,
we demonstrate the importance of properly connecting galaxy pairs to the rest

Stream network analysis and geomorphic flood plain mapping from orbital and suborbital remote sensing imagery application to flood hazard studies in central Texas
The author has identified the following significant results. Development of a quantitative hydrogeomorphic approach to flood hazard evaluation was hindered by (1) problems of resolution and definition of the morphometric parameters which have hydrologic significance, and (2) mechanical difficulties in creating the necessary volume of data for meaningful analysis. Measures of network resolution such as drainage density and basin Shreve magnitude indicated that large scale topographic maps offered greater resolution than small scale suborbital imagery and orbital imagery. The disparity in network resolution capabilities between orbital and suborbital imagery formats depends on factors such as rock type, vegetation, and land use. The problem of morphometric data analysis was approached by developing a computer-assisted method for network analysis. The system allows rapid identification of network properties which can then be related to measures of flood response
