Dynamic analysis using superelements for a large helicopter model
Using superelements (substructures), modal and frequency response analysis was performed for a large model of the Advanced Attack Helicopter developed for the U.S. Army. Whiffletree concept was employed so that the residual structure along with the various superelements could be represented as beam-like structures for economical and accurate dynamic analysis. A very large DMAP alter to the rigid format was developed so that the modal analysis, the frequency response, and the strain energy in each component could be computed in the same run
Fault Testing for Reversible Circuits
Applications of reversible circuits can be found in the fields of low-power
computation, cryptography, communications, digital signal processing, and the
emerging field of quantum computation. Furthermore, prototype circuits for
low-power applications are already being fabricated in CMOS. Regardless of the
eventual technology adopted, testing is sure to be an important component in
any robust implementation.
We consider the test set generation problem. Reversibility affects the
testing problem in fundamental ways, making it significantly simpler than for
the irreversible case. For example, we show that any test set that detects all
single stuck-at faults in a reversible circuit also detects all multiple
stuck-at faults. We present efficient test set constructions for the standard
stuck-at fault model as well as the usually intractable cell-fault model. We
also give a practical test set generation algorithm, based on an integer linear
programming formulation, that yields test sets approximately half the size of
those produced by conventional ATPG.Comment: 30 pages, 8 figures. to appear in IEEE Trans. on CA
Symptomatic adrenal insufficiency during inhaled corticosteroid treatment
Symptomatic adrenal insufficiency, presenting
as hypoglycaemia or poor weight
gain, may occur on withdrawal of corticosteroid
treatment but has not previously
been reported during inhaled corticosteroid
treatment. This case series illustrates
the occurence of clinically
significant adrenal insufficiency in asthmatic
children while patients were on
inhaled corticosteroid treatment and the
unexpected modes of presentation. General
practitioners and paediatricians need
to be aware that this unusual but acute
serious complication may occur in patients

The Circumstellar Structure and Excitation Effects around the Massive Protostar Cepheus A HW 2
We report SMA 335 GHz continuum observations with angular resolution of
~0.''3, together with VLA ammonia observations with ~1'' resolution toward Cep
A HW 2. We find that the flattened disk structure of the dust emission observed
by Patel et al. is preserved at the 0.''3 scale, showing an elongated structure
of ~$0.''6 size (450 AU) peaking on HW 2. In addition, two ammonia cores are
observed, one associated with a hot-core previously reported, and an elongated
core with a double peak separated by ~1.''3 and with signs of heating at the
inner edges of the gas facing HW 2. The double-peaked ammonia structure, as
well as the double-peaked CH3CN structure reported previously (and proposed to
be two independent hot-cores), surround both the dust emission as well as the
double-peaked SO2 disk structure found by Jimenez-Serra et al. All these
results argue against the interpretation of the elongated dust-gas structure as
due to a chance-superposition of different cores; instead, they imply that it
is physically related to the central massive object within a disk-protostar-jet
system.Comment: 12 pages, 3 figures; accepted for publication in the Astrophysical

Development of automatic and manual flight director landing systems for the XV-15 tilt rotor aircraft in helicopter mode
The objective of this effort is to determine IFR approach path and touchdown dispersions for manual and automatic XV-15 tilt rotor landings, and to develop missed approach criteria. Only helicopter mode XV-15 operation is considered. The analysis and design sections develop the automatic and flight director guidance equations for decelerating curved and straight-in approaches into a typical VTOL landing site equipped with an MLS navigation aid. These system designs satisfy all known pilot-centered, guidance and control requirements for this flying task. Performance data, obtained from nonstationary covariance propagation dispersion analysis for the system, are used to develop the approach monitoring criteria. The autoland and flight director guidance equations are programmed for the VSTOLAND 1819B digital computer. The system design dispersion data developed through analysis and the 1819B digital computer program are verified and refined using the fixed-base, man-in-the-loop XV-15 VSTOLAND simulation
Weak-localization corrections to the conductivity of double quantum wells
The weak-localization contribution \delta\sigma(B) to the conductivity of a
tunnel-coupled double-layer electron system is evaluated and its behavior in
weak magnetic fields B perpendicular or parallel to the layers is examined. In
a perpendicular field B, \delta \sigma(B) increases and remains dependent on
tunneling as long as the magnetic field is smaller than \hbar/e D \tau_t, where
D is the in-plane diffusion coefficient and \tau_t the interlayer tunneling
time. If \tau_t is smaller than the inelastic scattering time, a parallel
magnetic field also leads to a considerable increase of the concuctivity
starting with a B**2 law and saturating at fields higher than \hbar/e Z (D
\tau_t)**(1/2), where Z is the interlayer distance. In the limit of coherent
tunneling, when \tau_t is comparable to elastic scattering time, \delta
\sigma(B) differs from that of a single-layer system due to ensuing
modifications of the diffusion coefficient. A possibility to probe the
weak-localization effect in double-layer systems by the dependence of the
conductivity on the gate-controlled level splitting is discussed.Comment: Text 18 pages in Latex/Revtex format, 4 Postscript figures. J. Phys.:

Dlgh1 coordinates actin polymerization, synaptic T cell receptor and lipid raft aggregation, and effector function in T cells.
Lipid raft membrane compartmentalization and membrane-associated guanylate kinase (MAGUK) family molecular scaffolds function in establishing cell polarity and organizing signal transducers within epithelial cell junctions and neuronal synapses. Here, we elucidate a role for the MAGUK protein, Dlgh1, in polarized T cell synapse assembly and T cell function. We find that Dlgh1 translocates to the immune synapse and lipid rafts in response to T cell receptor (TCR)/CD28 engagement and that LckSH3-mediated interactions with Dlgh1 control its membrane targeting. TCR/CD28 engagement induces the formation of endogenous Lck-Dlgh1-Zap70-Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome protein (WASp) complexes in which Dlgh1 acts to facilitate interactions of Lck with Zap70 and WASp. Using small interfering RNA and overexpression approaches, we show that Dlgh1 promotes antigen-induced actin polymerization, synaptic raft and TCR clustering, nuclear factor of activated T cell activity, and cytokine production. We propose that Dlgh1 coordinates TCR/CD28-induced actin-driven T cell synapse assembly, signal transduction, and effector function. These findings highlight common molecular strategies used to regulate cell polarity, synapse assembly, and transducer organization in diverse cellular systems
