    Media, memory, and minority: the Russian-language TV channel ETV+ and its role in the long-lasting “war of memories” in Estonia

    This research evaluates the role of public minority language television as an agent of memory and actor in the achievement of the social cohesion. More precisely, it is focused on the case of the Estonian public television channel in the Russian language ETV+ and its coverage of commemorations in Estonia. This thesis analyses representations and interpretations of historic events in order to define how it deals with the conflict of memories between the Estonian and Russian-speaking communities. The theoretical framework and research methodology refer to studies of media, memory, and minorities. Specifically, this study uses a combination of qualitative methods: from the one side it analyses the narrative indicators in the coverage of anniversary ceremonies; from the other side, it evaluates these narrative indicators, interprets meanings and draws the conclusion on this basis. The research defines three major categories of indicators: “self”/ “other”, shared Estonian-Russian history, and representation of the 'Russian' element in the local Estonian history. On the empirical level, this study deals with materials produced by the television channel ETV+ during official and unofficial commemorations. It focuses on the coverage of four official Estonian anniversaries: the Estonian Independence Day (the 24th of February in 2016 and 2017), the Estonian Victory Day (the 23rd of June 2016), and Day of Restoration of Independence (the 20th of August 2016). In addition, it includes the 'Russian Victory Day' (the 9th of May 2016) and its commemoration in Estonia. The research period is from February 2016 to February 2017, because the work of the thesis was finished before the other dates of anniversaries.     Monitoring and forecasting the development of local food systems : a case study

    The motivation of this research is the need to explore the role of a local food system in solving the problem of food security. The article develops the methods for analyzing the current state of a food system and forecasting the future development of food markets. The methods and techniques have been tested for the food system in the Krasnoyarsk Territory. The current trends in food supply chains in specific sectors (potatoes and vegetables, meat and milk, eggs and cereal products) have been highlighted for this region. The problems and the possible solutions have been identified. The medium-term and long-term consumption prospects offer opportunities for an in-depth study of the promising areas in the food industry of the region.peer-reviewe

    Composition of the microbial communities in the gastrointestinal tract of perch (Perca fluviatilis L. 1758) and cestodes parasitizing the perch digestive tract

    Using the approach of sequencing the V3‐V4 region of the 16S rRNA gene, we have analysed the bacterial diversity associated with the distinct compartments of the gastrointestinal tract of perch (Perca fluviatilis) and cestodes (Proteocephalus sp.) parasitizing their digestive tract. The dominant microbiota associated with cestodes (Proteocephalus sp.) was represented by bacteria from the genera Serratia, Pseudomonas and Mycoplasma. By comparing the associated microbiota of perch and cestodes, a clear difference in bacterial composition and diversity was revealed between the community from the stomach content and other parts of the gastrointestinal tract of fish. Microbiota associated with cestodes was not significantly different in comparison with microbiota of different subcompartments of perch (mucosa and content of intestine and pyloric caeca) (ADONIS, p > .05) excluding microbiota of stomach content (ADONIS, p ≤ .05). PICRUSt‐based functional assessments of the microbial communities of perch and cestodes indicated that they mainly linked in terms of metabolism and environmental information processing and could play an important role in the nutrition and health of host.info:eu-repo/semantics/acceptedVersio

    Variations of the intestinal gut microbiota of farmed rainbow trout, Oncorhynchus mykiss (Walbaum), depending on the infection status of the fish

    Aims The aim of the present study was to investigate the composition of the intestinal microbiota during the acute stage of a bacterial infection to understand how dysbiosis of the gut may influence overall taxonomic hierarchy and diversity, and determine if there exists a bacterial taxon(s) that serve as markers for healthy or diseased rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss). Methods and Results From July to September 2015 29 specimens of three‐year‐old (an average weight from 240.9±37.7 to 850.7±70.1 g) rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss were studied. Next‐generation high‐throughput sequencing of the 16S ribosomal RNA genes was applied to stomach and intestinal samples to compare the impact of infection status on the microbiota of rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss (Walbaum) from the northwest part of Eurasia (Karelian region, Russia). The alpha diversity (Chao1, Simpson and Shannon index) of the microbial community of healthy rainbow trout was significantly higher than in unhealthy fish. The greatest contribution to the gut microbial composition of healthy fish was made by OTU's belonging to Bacillus, Serratia, Pseudomonas, Cetobacterium, and Lactobacillus. Microbiota of unhealthy fish in most cases was represented by the genera Serratia, Bacillus, and Pseudomonas. In microbiota of unhealthy fish there were also registered unique taxa such as bacteria from the family Mycoplasmataceae and Renibacterium. Analysis of similarities (ANOSIM test) revealed the significant dissimilarity between the microbiota of stomach and intestine (p≤0.05). Conclusions A substantial finding was the absence of differences between microbial communities of the stomach and intestine in the unhealthy groups if compared with healthy fish.     Trophic diversification and parasitic invasion as ecological niche modulators for gut microbiota of whitefish

    Introduction: The impact of parasites on gut microbiota of the host is well documented, but the role of the relationship between the parasite and the host in the formation of the microbiota is poorly understood. This study has focused on the influence that trophic behavior and resulting parasitism has on the structure of the microbiome. Methods: Using 16S amplicon sequencing and newly developed methodological approaches, we characterize the gut microbiota of the sympatric pair of whitefish Coregonus lavaretus complex and the associated microbiota of cestodes parasitizing their intestine. The essence of the proposed approaches is, firstly, to use the method of successive washes of the microbiota from the cestode’s surfaces to analyze the degree of bacterial association to the tegument of the parasite. Secondly, to use a method combining the sampling of intestinal content and mucosa with the washout procedure from the mucosa to understand the real structure of the fish gut microbiota. Results and discussion: Our results demonstrate that additional microbial community in the intestine are formed by the parasitic helminths that caused the restructuring of the microbiota in infected fish compared to those uninfected. Using the desorption method in Ringer’s solution, we have demonstrated that Proteocephalus sp. cestodes possess their own microbial community which is put together from “surface” bacteria, and bacteria which are weakly and strongly associated with the tegument, bacteria obtained after treatment of the tegument with detergent, and bacteria obtained after removal of the tegument from the cestodes.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

    An analytic model of the Gruneisen parameter at all densities

    We model the density dependence of the Gruneisen parameter as gamma(rho) = 1/2 + gamma_1/rho^{1/3} + gamma_2/rho^{q}, where gamma_1, gamma_2, and q>1 are constants. This form is based on the assumption that gamma is an analytic function of V^{1/3}, and was designed to accurately represent the experimentally determined low-pressure behavior of gamma. The numerical values of the constants are obtained for 20 elemental solids. Using the Lindemann criterion with our model for gamma, we calculate the melting curves for Al, Ar, Ni, Pd, and Pt and compare them to available experimental melt data. We also determine the Z (atomic number) dependence of gamma_1. The high-compression limit of the model is shown to follow from a generalization of the Slater, Dugdale-MacDonald, and Vashchenko-Zubarev forms for the dependence of the Gruneisen parameter.Comment: 14 Pages, LaTeX, 5 eps figues; changes in the tex

    The objective of the article is to analyze the number of employees aggregated in the mass media and content sector in Russia for the period from 2010 to 2019. Mass media and content sector is one of the sectors which is developed very dynamically at the present time. Since rural people do not possess high-skill professional skills and competencies at the present time, the IT sector is excluded from the analysis. With the help of prior research of competencies and skills of rural people we also made the forecast of the most appropriate sector to produce services on- line. Then thanks to prior research about goods and services on demand in Russian e-commerce, we elaborated the list of services which rural people can produce and sell remotely with the help of Internet. This primary list recap services which almost anu individual can produce. But to be capitalized they need to be branded and advertised appropriately

    Study of the socio-economic living conditions of the rural population of the Krasnoyarsk Territory

    This article examines the socio-economic sphere of life of the rural population at the level of the region and individual municipal districts. The aim of the work was to obtain objective assessments of the level of social and economic well-being of the rural population and determine the list of infrastructure facilities, the introduction of which will lead to an improvement in living conditions in rural areas. The object of the study was the rural areas of the Krasnoyarsk Territory and the quality of life of rural households. The research methodology was based on the use of the index method for aggregating data characterizing various aspects of the social well-being of a rural resident. As a result of the study, it was found that most of the rural population of the region under consideration lives in conditions that are significantly different from living in an urban environment. The disproportions in the level of income, housing improvement, the availability of social engineering infrastructure, and the availability of basic social services are highlighted. About 63% of rural residents do not have access to centralized water supply, heat supply and sewerage systems. The problem of wear and tear of fixed assets in healthcare, education, and transport infrastructure is critical. The highest degree of compliance of rural living conditions with urban standards of social comfort is observed in the regions of the Far North, which have a special legal status and industrial specialization of the territorial economy. Rural territories with a predominantly agrarian type of economy cannot provide the necessary volume of investment in fixed assets, mass employment and an acceptable level of income for rural households
