Dissimilar metal joining of stainless steel and titanium using copper as transition metal

Joining of stainless steel and titanium dissimilar metal combination has a specific interest in the nuclear industry. Due to the metallurgical incompatibility, it has been very difficult to produce reliable joints between these metals due to the formation of FeTi and Fe2Ti types of intermetallic compounds. The metallurgical incompatibility between both materials is enhanced by the time–temperature profile of the welding process used. Brittle intermetallics (IMCs) are formed during Fe–Ti welding (FeTi and Fe2Ti). The present study uses the low thermal heat input process cold metal transfer (CMT), when compared with conventional GMAW, to deposit a copper (Cu) bead between Ti and stainless steel. Cu is compatible with Fe, and it has a lower melting point than the two base materials. The welds were produced between AMS 4911L (Ti-6Al-4V) and AISI 316L stainless steel using a CuSi-3 welding wire. The joints produced revealed two IM layers located near the parent metals/weld interfaces. The hardness of these layers is higher than the remainder of the weld bead. Tensile tests were carried out with a maximum strength of 200 MPa, but the interfacial failure could not be avoided. Ti atomic migration was observed during experimental trials; however, the IMC formed are less brittle than FeTi, inducing higher mechanical properties.EPSR

Suporte Social, Sintomas de Ansiedade e Depressão e Satisfação com a Vida em Idosos sob Resposta Social

A investigação tem mostrado a importância do suporte social sobre a saúde mental, mas esse estudo não foi ainda feito em Portugal com idosos. Assim, é nosso objectivo estudar a relação entre a percepção do suporte social, a satisfação com a vida, os sintomas ansiosos e os sintomas depressivos. Recolhemos uma amostra composta por 46 sujeitos idosos, com idades compreendidas entre os 65 e os 95 anos. Utilizámos o Geriatric Anxiety Inventory (GAI) e Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS) para avaliação, respectivamente, da sintomatologia ansiosa e depressiva. Para avaliação do suporte social, utilizámos o Older Americans Resources and Services Program (OARS) que avalia os recursos sociais, e para avaliação da satisfação com a vida o Satisfaction With Life Scale (SWLS). Verificámos que 91,3% dos sujeitos eram analfabetos ou com escolaridade baixa e que apenas 4 (8,7%) tinham estudado para além do 4º ano. Os idosos revelaram médias elevadas de sintomatologia ansiosa, e depressiva, e de insatisfação. Em relação à percepção de suporte social, os idosos revelam elevada insatisfação essencialmente com a extensão do contacto com os outros e a disponibilidade de ajuda. Verificámos ainda que percepção de Suporte Social se relaciona com a Saúde Mental e o Bem-estar, pelo que é importante pensar-se em estratégias que promovam a integração desta população na vida social. Fomentar o convívio multigeracional afigura-se como uma solução. / Research has shown the importance of social support on mental health, however, this investigation has not been done yet in elder population. It is so our aim to study the relationship between perceived social support, satisfaction with life, anxiety symptoms and depressive symptoms. We collect a sample of 46 subject aged between 65 and 95 years old. We used the Geriatric Anxiety Inventory (GAI) and Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS) to assess anxious and depressive symptoms. To assess social support we use the Older Americans Resources and Services Program (OARS), which evaluate the social resources, and to assess the life satisfaction we use the Satisfaction With Life Scale (SWLS). We found that 91.3% of subjects were illiterate or with low education and only 4 (8.7%) had studied beyond the fourth grade. The elders showed higher average symptoms of anxiety and depression, and dissatisfaction. Regarding the perception of social support, the elderly essentially reveal high dissatisfaction with the extent of contact with others and the availability of help. We also found that perceived social support is related to the Mental Health and Well-being, it is so important to think in strategies that promote the integration of elder population in social life. Comportamento do líder inovador em organizações turísticas

Um dos problemas que se coloca ao investigador refere-se ao facto da maioria das pessoas nas organizações actuar de forma diferente daquela que afirma. A teoria declarada, constituída pelos objectivos e valores que a pessoa refere orientarem o seu comportamento difere muitas vezes da teoria praticada, integrando os objectivos e valores implícitos que efectivamente orientam esse comportamento. Assim, procurando recolher dados que reflictam as teorias praticadas, recorremos à metodologia dos constructos pessoais de Georges Kelly (1963) que permite eliminar o viés do observador e compreender o modo como as pessoas dão sentido à sua realidade e experiência, na sua própria linguagem. Após uma breve apresentação do método, exemplificamos como ele pode ser utilizado para identificar o modo como os trabalhadores percepcionam o líder inovador no sector do turismo
