Direct images and spectroscopy of a giant protoplanet driving spiral arms in MWC 758

Understanding the driving forces behind spiral arms in protoplanetary disks remains a challenge due to the faintness of young giant planets. MWC 758 hosts such a protoplanetary disk with a two-armed spiral pattern that is suggested to be driven by an external giant planet. We present new thermal infrared observations that are uniquely sensitive to redder (i.e., colder or more attenuated) planets than past observations at shorter wavelengths. We detect a giant protoplanet, MWC 758c, at a projected separation of ~100 au from the star. The spectrum of MWC 758c is distinct from the rest of the disk and consistent with emission from a planetary atmosphere with Teff = 500 +/- 100 K for a low level of extinction (AV<30), or a hotter object with a higher level of extinction. Both scenarios are commensurate with the predicted properties of the companion responsible for driving the spiral arms. MWC 758c provides evidence that spiral arms in protoplanetary disks can be caused by cold giant planets or by those whose optical emission is highly attenuated. MWC 758c stands out both as one of the youngest giant planets known, and also as one of the coldest and/or most attenuated. Furthermore, MWC 758c is among the first planets to be observed within a system hosting a protoplanetary disk.Comment: Published in Nature Astronom

Evidence of Infection by H5N2 Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza Viruses in Healthy Wild Waterfowl

The potential existence of a wild bird reservoir for highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) has been recently questioned by the spread and the persisting circulation of H5N1 HPAI viruses, responsible for concurrent outbreaks in migratory and domestic birds over Asia, Europe, and Africa. During a large-scale surveillance programme over Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, we detected avian influenza viruses of H5N2 subtype with a highly pathogenic (HP) viral genotype in healthy birds of two wild waterfowl species sampled in Nigeria. We monitored the survival and regional movements of one of the infected birds through satellite telemetry, providing a rare evidence of a non-lethal natural infection by an HP viral genotype in wild birds. Phylogenetic analysis of the H5N2 viruses revealed close genetic relationships with H5 viruses of low pathogenicity circulating in Eurasian wild and domestic ducks. In addition, genetic analysis did not reveal known gallinaceous poultry adaptive mutations, suggesting that the emergence of HP strains could have taken place in either wild or domestic ducks or in non-gallinaceous species. The presence of coexisting but genetically distinguishable avian influenza viruses with an HP viral genotype in two cohabiting species of wild waterfowl, with evidence of non-lethal infection at least in one species and without evidence of prior extensive circulation of the virus in domestic poultry, suggest that some strains with a potential high pathogenicity for poultry could be maintained in a community of wild waterfowl

Les outils et pratiques de contrôle de gestion dans les Scop pour piloter la performance globale

Dans un contexte de développement des démarches RSE au sein de l'ensemble des organisations, les entreprises de l'économie sociale et solidaire (ESS), dont les SCOP, se doivent de montrer leur valeur ajoutée. Pour caractériser les outils employés et leurs usages visant un pilotage équilibré de la performance globale dans les Scop, les cadres théoriques des leviers de contrôle (Simons 1991, 1995) et des outils de gestion (Hatchuel et Weil, 1992) sont mobilisés. Cinq cas permettent de montrer l'articulation des systèmes de contrôle diagnostique et interactif pour piloter la performance globale et rendre compte de la finalité des Scop sous forme d'utilité sociale.To show their added value, social economy enterprises, including worker cooperatives (Scop) are developing CSR approaches. To show how the management control tools and practices are mobilized in worker cooperatives, we use the concept of global performance and the theoretical frameworks of control levers (Simons, 1991, 1995) and management tools (Hatchuel and Weil, 1992). Les Scop, quels comportements en matière de RSE face aux problématiques et doléances sociétales ?

International audienceAlors que leur environnement et leur réseau national les poussent à développer des démarches de responsabilité sociale (RSE), les sociétés coopératives et participatives (SCOP) peuvent adopter des pratiques personnalisées. En étudiant les démarches volontaires de quatre SCOP, nous montrons que les pratiques en matière de RSE s'insèrent dans un discours commun mais illustrent des modalités d'application diverses. La mise en évidence de tensions, entre discours et pratiques de RSE d’une part et entre l'absence de cadre des démarches RSE et la formalisation des pratiques d’autre part, permet en conclusion de tracer les traits caractéristiques du comportement RSE d'une SCOP

L'ACCEPTATION DE L'INNOVATION DANS LE SECTEUR VEGETAL : UNE ETUDE QUALITATIVE EXPLORATOIRE

International audienceThe objective of this article is to analyse the perception and the acceptation of innovative products in the horticultural sector. An exploratory study carried out using a focus group leading to 40 individual interviews and 4 expert interviews shows the conceptualised innovative perspectives concerning the intrinsic characteristics (such as colour) as well as the extrinsic characteristics (such as packaging). The results show 1) the difficulty of accepting horticultural modifications because of the specificities involved but also because of the behaviour of the consumer as a reaction to the change and 2) an authorisation for the innovation of the packaging if a valorisation of the horticultural product, respect of the products natural state and an easier categorisation is obtained.L’objectif de cet article est d’analyser la perception et l’acceptation de produits innovants dans le secteur végétal. Une étude exploratoire menée à travers un focus group, 40 entretiens individuels et 4 interviews d’experts montre les perspectives envisageables en matière d’innovation à la fois sur ses caractéristiques intrinsèques (couleur) et sur ses caractéristiques extrinsèques (packaging). Les résultats mettent en évidence 1) les difficultés d’acceptation de modifications sur le végétal en raison de ses spécificités mais aussi du comportement du consommateur à son égard et 2) une approbation de l’innovation au niveau du packaging si ce dernier valorise le produit végétal, respecte la naturalité et facilite la catégorisation

Elle s entend comme une contribution à l histoire de ce mouvement culturel et à la lecture des œuvres qu il a fait éclore, en langue française et en langue latine, depuis la publication par Jacques Lefèvre d Étaples de son Ars moralis introductoria (1494) jusqu à la parution du second Quart Livre de François Rabelais (1552). It contributes to the history of this cultural movement and to the reading of the works that were published at that time, either in French or in Neolatin literature, from Lefèvre d Étaples s Ars moralis introductoria (1494) to Rabelais s Quart Livre de Pantagruel (1552). How is the golden mean depicted in the first half of the sixteenth century ? How do these representations shed light on humanist thought and religious devotion ? In such intricately ambiguous masterpieces as Erasmus s Encomium Moriae, Marguerite of Navarre s fictions, or the Rabelaisian chronicles, the old Aristotelian notion of the middle way seems to have become a more daring spiritual enterprise.
