Eight medicinal plants viz., Sinduri, Bixa orellana (Bixaceae); Dalchini, Cinnamomum zelanicum (Lauraceae); Camphora, Cinnamomum camphora (Lauraceae); Gular, Ficus racemosa (Moraceae); Arjun, Terminalia arjuna (Combretaceae); Nagkesar, Messua ferrea (Calophyllaceae); Sarpgandha, Rauwolfia serpentina (Apocynaceae); Putranjeeva, Putranjeeva roxburghii (Euphorbiaceae) at 5% and 10 % concentrations were tested for the feeding against larvae of Spodoptera litura and Spilarctia obliqua. At 10% conc. C.camphora (hexane, diethyl ether, and acetone) was found extremely antifeedant against the larvae of both insects (S.litura and S.obliqua) while C.zeylanicum (hexane, diethyl ether, and acetone) and P.roxbughii (diethyl ether, and acetone), B.orellana (Acetone) showed extremely antifeedant activity only against the larvae of S.litura. At 5% concentration, the same plants were also effective against the larvae but their efficacy was less than at 10% concentration. The observation showed promising results with these plant extracts against the feeding and management of these two insect pests of agricultural importance

A stability-indicating high-performance liquid chromatographic (HPLC) method was developed with short run time and validated for the assay of process related impurities of pantoprazole in bulk form. Resolution of drug, its potential impurities and degradation products were achieved on a Hypersil ODS column utilizing a gradient with 0.01 M phosphate buffer of pH 7 and acetonitrile as eluent, at the detection wavelength of 290 nm. Flow rate was set at 1 mL min-1. The procedure was found to be specific, linear (r=0.999), recovery (97.9-103%), LOD (0.043-0.047 µgmL-1), LOQ (0.13-0.14 µgmL-1) and robust. Acceptable robustness indicates that the assay method remains unaffected by small but deliberate variations. Pantoprazole was found to degrade in acidic, oxidative and under photolytic stress conditions. The drug was stable to alkaline and dry heat conditions. This method has been successively applied to pharmaceutical formulation and no interference from the excipients was found

The study was conducted to collect and identify helminth parasites of Mastacembalus armatus and also to determine the prevalence intensity and abundance of parasitic infection. 118 M. armatus, obtained from different sampling stations of Yamuna river between March 2008 to February 2009 were examined for endoparasitic helminth infections. Of these only 31 fishes were found infected. Four helminth species including one nematode (Ascaridia ganpatii), two cestodes (Polyonchobothrium armatii, Senga nayari) and one trematode (Eucreadium pandeyi)were found in host fish. The over all monthly infestation of prevalence (0.29), intensity (3.28) and abundance (1.13) were recorded. The maximum infection was recorded in middle size range while very small and larger fishes showed lesser susceptibility to helminth parasites

Infertility whether primary or secondary is an emotional and financial burden to the concerned family. In India we occasionally deal with financial constraints of the women undergoing treatment for infertility. Women getting post procedure port site tubercular abscess further makes the situation worse leading to long term burden of drug intake which could have been avoided by proper knowledge and use of sterilization technique of laparoscopic instruments.

Background: The objective was to find the role of maternal serum C- reactive protein and Chlamydia trachomatis IgG antibodies as predictors of preterm delivery. Methods: This prospective study was conducted in UISEMH, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, GSVM Medical College, Kanpur from September 2011 to September 2013. The present study comprised of a total of 100 cases, out of which 50 were in study group and 50 in control group. Cases were compared with respect to presence of Chlamydia trachomatis antibodies and maternal C- reactive protein levels. Results: CRP levels were higher and C. trachomatis immunoglobulin G levels were more often present in the women with preterm deliveries. A total of 20 cases (40%) were found to be seropositive for IgG antibodies to C. trachomatis. The seropositive women were significantly more likely to have a preterm birth (75% [15/20] v. 40% [12/30]; p = 0.0182, odds ratio 4.50, 95% CI 1.29 to 15.67). In study group 21 cases were CRP positive (42%). The CRP positive women were significantly more likely to have a preterm birth (76.2% [16/21] v. 37.93 % [11/29]; p = 0.009, odds ratio 5.24, 95% CI 1.49 to 18.34). Thus risk of preterm delivery was greater in seropositive women and in CRP positive women. Conclusion: The detection of maternal serum C- reactive protein and antichlamydial antibodies are valuable, non-invasive diagnostic procedure for prediction of preterm delivery and can be used as predictors of preterm delivery

Estimation of leakage power and delay in CMOS circuits using parametric variation

SummaryWith the advent of deep-submicron technologies, leakage power dissipation is a major concern for scaling down portable devices that have burst-mode type integrated circuits. In this paper leakage reduction technique HTLCT (High Threshold Leakage Control Transistor) is discussed. Using high threshold transistors at the place of low threshold leakage control transistors, result in more leakage power reduction as compared to LCT (leakage control transistor) technique but at the scarifies of area and delay. Further, analysis of effect of parametric variation on leakage current and propagation delay in CMOS circuits is performed. It is found that the leakage power dissipation increases with increasing temperature, supply voltage and aspect ratio. However, opposite pattern is noticed for the propagation delay. Leakage power dissipation for LCT NAND gate increases up to 14.32%, 6.43% and 36.21% and delay decreases by 22.5%, 42% and 9% for variation of temperature, supply voltage and aspect ratio. Maximum peak of equivalent output noise is obtained as 127.531nV/Sqrt(Hz) at 400mHz

Background: Studies demonstrate the change in nature of dissociation in accordance with increasing age but there is dearth of literature studying the differential influence of personality factors in childhood and adolescent dissociation respectively. Personality attributes putatively determine the overt expression of nature of dissociative symptoms in childhood and adolescent dissociative symptoms differentially. Objective: Aim of this study was to compare the personality profiles of children and adolescents onset dissociative disorder. Methods: 60 subjects with diagnosis of dissociative disorders were included in this study with 30 subjects with 8-12 years of age and 30 adolescents with 13-16 years of age. Children in the age group of 8-12 years were given children personality questionnaire (CPQ) and adolescents were given 16 PF (form B) which are a paper-pencil self-administered questionnaires. Results: Both the groups were comparable for various socio-demographic and clinical variables except habitat and education. Children in younger age group were found to be more serious, taciturn, internally restrained, depressed and apprehensive. Adolescents on other hand were more aggressive, stubborn and aggressive. Conclusions: Dissociation in childhood and adolescents is a malleable developmental phenomenon determined by core personality attributes.
