Fisioterapia.Introdução: A Kinesio Taping (KT) é um método terapêutico que pode ser utilizado para facilitar a ativação muscular e a execução de atividades funcionais em indivíduos com comprometimento neuromotor, como praticantes de atividade física adaptada. Objetivo: Verificar o efeito da KT aplicada no músculo eretor da espinha e no controle do tronco de um lesado medular praticante de atividade física adaptada. Métodos: Foi utilizado um eletromiógrafo para verificar a ativação do músculo eretor da espinha e uma plataforma de força para avaliar o controle de tronco durante atividades funcionais na postura sentada. Foi realizada uma avaliação com duas condições: sem KT e KT com tensão. Resultados: Na postura sentada estática e nos deslocamentos houve aumento da ativação dos músculos eretor da espinha direito e esquerdo e reto abdominal direito após a aplicação da KT. Nesta mesma condição, houve diminuição no deslocamento ântero-posterior, médio-lateral e na área do COP. Conclusão: A KT parece promover um input sensorial tátil adicional que facilita a ativação muscular e a estabilidade em um indivíduo com lesão medular

    Living solidarity: Helping students with learning differences develop dignity for all humanity

    Through Evangelii Gaudium (2013) and Laudato si’ (2015) Pope Francis has approached contemporary culture head-on with a call for Catholics to engage, and not retreat from, the changes and challenges of the 21st century. Traditional expectations and norms of society such as education, occupations, communication, and relationship have been shifting to new horizons through the influence of the recent technological boom. The purpose of this lesson was to target the essential 21st century skills of analysis and synthesis in adolescent boys identified as struggling readers. These skills were targeted through the use of the multimodalities available via the iPad. A secondary purpose of the lesson was to increase social awareness and empathy for the marginalized, a group among which the participants could count themselves due to their delayed literacy skills. The theoretical frameworks applied to this lesson included Brain-Based Learning Theory, Systems Theory, and Social Justice. Participants were members of a reading class in a large, Midwestern parochial high school who fell below the 28th percentile in reading on the National High Schools Entrance Exam. A total of 24 freshman students in an all male environment were taught a lesson aimed at helping students identify stereotypes and then, through systems theory, identify the flaws in the system that allowed these stereotypes to continue. The lesson was taught over the course of one week, and the themes in the lesson were extended over the course of the school year. The lesson focused on the events that took place in Ferguson, Missouri, in November of 2014 involving the police shooting of an unarmed African American teenager. Technology was employed as articles were accessed through the interactive technology forum Newsela. This forum allows students to read current events articles at a level comfortable to them due to its flexible lexile level controls. Students may also take quizzes after reading and respond to teacher questions on the site. Students were also invited to use the Text-to-Speech function of the iPad for multisensory reading opportunities. A Padlet board was created for an active dialogue to take place, and kinesthetic learning opportunities were provided. Students also watched the movie Freedom Writers in order to learn more about the effects of marginalization on those in poor communities in the United States. The desired results were to develop an interest in reading by providing information of interest to the targeted population and then using this to suggest and encourage further reading on the topic. Additionally, the hope was to provide a greater empathy for the marginalized and to, through increased awareness, encourage active community involvement

    O uso de Lactobacillus reuteri DSM 17938 na cólica infantil: um tratamento eficaz?

    The objective of the present study is to carry out a integrative review of the literature to verify the safety and efficacy of using Lactobacillus reuteri DSM 17938 in the treatment of infantile colic. The scientific search was carried out in the PubMed, Medline, Lilacs databases and in the Acessss and Tripdatabase metasearchers, between May and August 2020. After applying the defined inclusion and exclusion criteria, 11 articles were selected to compose the work. About the results of the studies, eight (72.7%) had positive outcomes in relation to the efficacy of Lactobacillus reuteri DSM 17938 in reducing the symptoms of infantile colic. On the other hand, some authors did not find significant differences in the studied markers, others did not report any outcome, only detailing the intervention protocol. Although Lactobacillus reuteri DSM 17938 supplementation has been shown to be safe and effective in most of the studies analyzed, there is insufficient evidence to recommend its use as a generalized treatment strategy.O objetivo do presente estudo é realizar uma revisão integrativa da literatura para verificar a segurança e eficácia do uso de Lactobacillus reuteri DSM 17938 no tratamento da cólica infantil. A busca científica foi feita nas bases de dados PubMed, Medline, Lilacs e nos metabuscadores Acessss e Tripdatabase, entre os meses maio e agosto de 2020. Após a aplicação dos critérios de inclusão e exclusão definidos, 11 artigos foram selecionados para compor o trabalho. A cerca dos resultados dos estudos, oito (72,7%) apresentaram desfechos positivos em relação a eficácia do Lactobacillus reuteri DSM 17938 na diminuição dos sintomas de cólica infantil. Em contrapartida, alguns autores não encontraram diferenças significativas nos marcadores estudados, outros não relataram nenhum desfecho, apenas detalharam o protocolo de intervenção. Ainda que a suplementação de Lactobacillus reuteri DSM 17938 tenha apresentado segurança e eficácia na maior parte dos estudos analisados, não há evidências suficientes para recomendar seu uso como uma estratégia generalizada de tratamento

    Mathematical modelling of mass transfer phenomena for sucrose and lactitol molecules during osmotic dehydration of cherries

    The diffusion phenomena of sucrose and lactitol in cherries using different proportions during osmotic dehydration was quantified by means of a mathematical model based on Fick's second law. The average effective diffusion coefficient for soluble solids in skin and flesh are 5.37 10−11 m2∕s and 1.24 10−10 m2∕s. Whereas, for water in skin and flesh are 9.27 10−09 m2∕s and 5.48 10−08 m2∕s. A significant difference for water diffusion coefficients (p < 0.05) was observed between the treatments. This could indicate that the diffusion between species and treatments is differential. Effective diffusion coefficients for water in skin and flesh are 2 orders of magnitude greater than effective diffusion coefficients for soluble solids. This is probably due to its lesser molecular weight. Furthermore, the effective diffusion coefficients for water and soluble solids in cherry skin are between 1 and 2 orders of magnitude lower than effective diffusion coefficients for both in cherry flesh, possibly due to the barrier effect exerted by the cherry skin.Fil: Maldonado, Mariela Beatriz.     Cambios en el regimen pluviométrico y sus efectos sobre la producción agropecuaria en el partido de Puán

    La declaración de emergencia climática en vastos sectores de los partidos del suroeste de la provincia de Buenos Aires desde el año 1991, a fin de paliar los efectos de eventos climáticos prolongados; la reducción de la productividad y la pérdida de aptitud agrícola, son los temas principales desarrollados en el presente trabajo. El objetivo del trabajo es el análisis conjunto de las variaciones en el régimen pluviométrico y los cambios en el uso del suelo en el partido de Puán, provincia de Buenos Aires. Se analizaron las características naturales de la región, el cambio de paradigma en la agricultura y las etapas de ocupación del espacio. Los resultados mostraron la existencia de períodos prolongados de sequía y los cambios progresivos en los usos del suelo, tendiendo hacia la agriculturización, implican cuanto menos una situación de alta vulnerabilidad en un sistema de transición como el que se desarrolla en la región. Los planteos y fundamentos de la Ley de Desarrollo del suroeste bonaerense están dirigidos en este sentido, es decir, la revisión de las limitantes para el desarrollo, dentro de las cuales se encuentran aquellas relacionadas con las condiciones climáticas.The weather emergency declaration in vast sectors of matches southwestern province of Buenos Aires since 1991, to mitigate the effects of prolonged weather events, reduced productivity and loss of agricultural potential, are the issues main developed in this work. The objective of this work is the joint analysis of variations in rainfall patterns and changes in land use in the game of Puan, province of Buenos Aires. We analyzed the natural characteristics of the region, the paradigm shift in agriculture and the stages of occupation of space. The results showed the existence of prolonged periods of drought and the progressive changes in land use, tending to agriculturization involve the less a situation of high vulnerability as a transitional system that develops in the region. The proposals and foundations of the Development Act southwest of Buenos Aires are aimed in this direction, ie the review of the limitations for development, among which are those related to weather conditions.Fil: Campo, Alicia María.     Análise do impacto dos cursos oferecidos em contexto de Escola Profissional para a Educação e Formação da Pessoa Adulta

    Dissertação de Mestrado, Educação e Formação, 21 de março de 2023, Universidade dos Açores.Este trabalho académico, intitulado “Análise do impacto dos cursos oferecidos em contexto de Escola Profissional para a Educação e Formação da Pessoa Adulta”, intentou analisar, num primeiro instante, a educação e formação da pessoa adulta, apresentando não só os seus conceitos-chave, como uma perspetiva evolucionista, até aos dias de hoje, considerando que os cursos orientados para o adulto têm um intuito de formação reforçada e adaptada, de modo a aumentar as suas competências e, consequentemente, certificações profissionais e escolares, com estratégias adequadas ao público alvo e, a maioria das vezes, com impacto numa aprendizagem ao longo da vida. Projetando conhecer melhor a realidade da formação oferecida em 2021/22 em contexto de Escola Profissional da Região Autónoma dos Açores, realizámos um estudo de casos múltiplos a partir de três escolas da Ilha de São Miguel, confrontando as recolhas efetuadas pela análise: documental da legislação em vigor e documentos específicos, dos projetos de escola disponibilizados; de conteúdo dos testemunhos obtido em conversas informais com os coordenadores pedagógicos e diretor de escola (n=3); e, por fim, da recolha (motivações, expetativas e nível de satisfação) efetuada através do inquérito por questionário aplicado a um grupo de alunos adultos das escolas (n=199). Para a análise destes dados, deu-se especial realce à comparação efetuada entre os cursos ABC da Rede Valorizar e Ensino Técnico-Profissional, recorrendo a procedimentos estatísticos ajustados. Concluímos, com este estudo que, não obstante a fase de vida e a modalidade de formação, a pessoa adulta, aluno do contexto de escola profissional, em geral satisfeito com a sua formação, procura além de se formar, informar e interagir, para obter melhores qualificações pessoais, académicas e profissionais que os tornem mais aptos para enfrentar os desafios de um mundo em permanente mudança. Em conformidade, podemos também observar que, por parte das escolas onde se aplicou o estudo, as ofertas formativas são cada vez mais direcionadas não só para o mercado de trabalho, mas também para as motivações e expectativas dos alunos adultos, em procura de reconhecimento profissional, mas também escolar e pessoal.ABSTRACT: This academic work, entitled "Analysis of the impact of courses offered in the context of Vocational School for the Education and Training of Adults", intended to analyze, in a first moment, the education and training of adults, presenting not only its key concepts, but also an evolutionary perspective, to the present day, considering that the courses aimed at the adult have an intention of reinforced and adapted training, in order to increase their skills and, consequently, professional and school certifications, with strategies appropriate to the target audience and, most of the time, with an impact on lifelong learning. Projecting to know better the reality of the training offered in 2021/22 in a Professional School context in the Azores Autonomous Region, we have carried out a multiple case study from three schools in São Miguel Island, confronting the collections made by the analysis: documentary analysis of the legislation in force and specific documents, of the school projects made available; of the content of the testimonies obtained in informal conversations with the pedagogical coordinators and school director (n=3); and, finally, of the collection (motivations, expectations and level of satisfaction) made through the questionnaire survey applied to a group of adult students of the schools (n=199). For the analysis of these data, special emphasis was given to the comparison made between the ABC courses of the Valorizar Network and Technical-Vocational Education, using adjusted statistical procedures. We conclude with this study that, notwithstanding the stage of life and the training modality, the adult person, student in the vocational school context, in general satisfied with their training, seeks besides training, to inform and interact, to obtain better personal, academic and professional qualifications that make them more apt to face the challenges of a world in permanent change. Accordingly, we can also observe that, on the part of the schools where the study was applied, the training offers are increasingly directed not only to the labor market, but also to the motivations and expectations of adult students, in search of professional recognition, but also school and personal

    Mobile resource management for better user experience: an audio case study

    Ubiquitous environment's research has evolved considerably over the last years. The wide range of mobile devices, their high diversity and mobility have raised a variety of challenges being resource management a predominant, and therefore attracting special attention in the research community. The Composable-Adaptive Resource Management (CARM) middleware library provides a exi- ble infrastructure where personal devices create seamlessly on-demand interconnections links to share ubiquitous resources. In this paper we present a CARM interesting use case, consisting of an improved audio listening experience by sharing a high quality audio resource. A proof-of-concept implementation is provided, and a testbed comprised of two CARM enabled mobile phones with Bluetooth connectivity making use of remote device's audio resource is described. Our approach demonstrates the importance and usability of enhancing the dynamic resource sharing experience without altering the bandwidth efficiency.Peer ReviewedPostprint (author’s final draft

    Dancing as predictor of employees’ work engagement

    This paper studies the impact of time spent in dancing on next day work engagement through increased morning vigor, sense of mastery, happiness and daily recovery mechanisms (mediators). A field study conducted with 34 respondents answering 3 daily questionnaires during 10 consecutive working days led to a two-level days-within-individuals model. Though positive, the direct relationship between time in dancing and work engagement reported statistically non-significant. However, a mediation analysis resulted in statistically significant and positively-related mediation paths between the aforementioned variables, suggesting that dancing has a positive impact in vigor through recovery and in work engagement through vigor as hypothesised

    O Programa Idiomas sem Fronteiras como Política Pública Educacional

    The development of the Science Without Borders program, which allowed Brazilian university students to study abroad for a period of time, had some obstacles. One of them was the lack of proficiency in foreign languages among candidates. As a solution to correct it, the program Languages Without Borders (IsF, Portuguese initials) was created. This study aimed to build a theoretical and conceptual understanding of IsF as a public policy. This is a qualitative bibliographic-documentary research, whose sources were documents related to the IsF, information from government databases and others. The theoretical-conceptual framework included Secchi (2015), Rodrigues (2015), Goodin, Rein and Moran (2006), Majone (1989) and others. The results place IsF as a public policy (as a solution to a public problem) whose creation unfolded in a cycle (planning, implementation, evaluation and conclusion). As such, IsF underwent reformulation to be continued. Continuity is its critical point due to the necessary investments in quality of basic education, development of science and technology.universitarios brasileños estudiar temporalmente en el extranjero, tuvo algunos obstáculos como la falta de competencia de los candidatos en hablar idiomas extranjeros. Es una investigación bibliográfica-documental cualitativa basada en documentos del IsF, informaciones gubernamentales y otras. Sus referencias conceptuales fueron Secchi (2015), Rodrigues (2015), Goodin, Rein y Moran (2006), Majone (1989) y otros. Los resultados muestran el IsF como política pública (solución a un problema público) cuya creación se desarrolló en un ciclo (de elaboración, implementación, evaluación y conclusión).
