Celebrant el Premi Nobel de Química 2016: màquines moleculars

Aquest article vol servir per rendir tribut als investigadors guardonats amb el Premi Nobel de Química 2016. En ell es descriuen una sèrie d'exemples seleccionats a partir dels treballs d'investigació dels professors Jean-Pierre Sauvage, Sir James Fraser Stoddart i Bernard L. Feringa publicats abans de l'any 2000. Els resultats que es presenten demostren les enginyoses tècniques i estratègies sintètiques desenvolupades per aquests investigadors per a la construcció de molècules enfilades o mecànicament enllaçades i alquens altament congestionats, que constitueixen els elements estructurals fonamentals per al desenvolupament de les màquines i els motors moleculars.This article pays tribute to the researchers awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2016. A series of selected examples drawn from the publications of Profs. Jean-Pierre Sauvage, Sir James Fraser Stoddart and Bernard L. Feringa from before the year 2000 are described. The results demonstrate the valuable synthetic techniques and strategies developed by these researchers for the construction of interlocked or mechanically linked molecules and highly overcrowded alkenes, which constitute the basic structural elements for the development of molecular machines and motors

Peer effects in public contributions: theory and experimental evidence

This paper analyzes the impact of social integration on cooperative behavior. We show that if the social network shows assortative mixing then conditional cooperation is an equilibrium strategy for altruistic subjects with a high degree of social integration.We provide experimental evidence on the relationship between individuals’ position in a social network and their contributions in a public good game.public good game, social networks, conditional cooperation.

D.A.N.G.E.R Disaster Prevention: videojuego educativo para la gestión de emergencias en Unity 3D: IA, agentes inteligentes y generación procedural

[ES] En este TFG se propone realizar un videojuego de simulación social y estrategia en Unity 3D para ordenador con una posterior portabilidad a dispositivos móviles. Este TFG será compartido con Adrián Sanchez Lavarias donde cada uno desarrollaremos distintos aspectos de aspectos del juego. Habrá aspectos que serán compartidos como, por ejemplo, la selección de assets, análisis de mercado, investigación en materias de seguridad y el documento de diseño del videojuego (GDD). En este juego encontraremos personajes con distintas personalidades a los que deberemos darles órdenes con el fin de salvar al mayor número posible de la emergencia en la que se ven envueltos. Las acciones del jugador tendrán repercusiones en el entorno y en los NPCs, que actúan como agentes a su entorno, que también se encuentra en constante cambio. Para ello inteligentes reactivos, serán capaces de percibir amenazas, obstáculos y otros NPCs y desplazarse por el mismo de forma autónoma interactuando con ellos según su personalidad, además de ajustar sus capacidades y emociones en tiempo real. Cada personaje presentará una personalidad y un conjunto de características físicas que proporcionarán al juego de un mayor realismo. Los niveles podrán ser generados tanto proceduralmente como a voluntad del jugador lo que fomentará la rejugabilidad del título y que se creen situaciones únicas. Mi compañero se encargará de las interfaces de usuario y las distintas pantallas, una base de datos que recoja las estadísticas de los jugadores y el diseño de una página web donde se encontrará información de como actuar en caso de emergencia, así como una guía de juego. El objetivo de este juego es usarlo como herramienta para utilizar estas tecnologías que se encuentran a la orden del día al mismo tiempo que se aprende acerca de las medidas y comportamientos que deben tomarse en caso de emergencia en un entorno interactivo, seguro y divertido.[EN] In this TFG it is proposed to make a social simulation and strategy video game in Unity 3D for the computer with subsequent portability to mobile devices. This TFG will be shared with Adrián Sanchez Lavarias where each one of us will develop different aspects of the game. There will be aspects that will be shared such as, for example, the asset selection, market analysis, research on security matters and the video game design document (GDD). In this game we will find characters with different personalities to whom we will have to give orders in order to save as many as possible from the emergency in which they are involved. The player's actions will have an impact on the environment and the NPCs, who act as reactive agents to their environment, which is also constantly changing. To do this, the NPC¿s will be able to detect threats, obstacles and other NPCs and move through it autonomously, interacting with them according to their personality, in addition to adjusting their abilities and emotions in real time. Each character will present a personality and a set of physical characteristics that will give the game more realism. The levels can be generated both procedurally and at the player's will, which will promote the replayability of the title and create unique situations. My colleague will be in charge of the user interfaces and the different screens, a database that collects the statistics of the players and the design of a web page where you will find information on how to act in case of emergency, as well as a game guide. The objective of this game is to use it as a tool to use these technologies that are the order of the day while learning about the measures and behaviors to be taken in an emergency in an interactive, safe and fun environment.Querol Ballester, P. Caracterización paleomagnética de procesos deformacionales en cuencas intraplaca (Alto Atlas Central): diapirismo, compresión e intrusiones ígneas

El uso de las remagnetizaciones inter-plegamiento suponen una herramienta idónea para el estudio de cuencas intraplaca invertidas, cuya geometría extensional está modificada por la compresión, y la presencia de este tipo de remagnetizaciones puede ser usada como control geométrico al momento de la adquisición de la remagnetización, siempre que sendos estados de deformación (el previo y el posterior a la remagnetización) sean coaxiales. La aplicación de las técnicas basadas en círculos menores a la remagnetización cretácica (portada por magnetita) presente en el Alto Atlas Central (Marruecos) permite esclarecer algunos aspectos de la evolución de la cuenca, tales como la datación relativa de la foliación tectónica presente en el área, o la importancia de los procesos halocinéticos e ígneos en la generación de las estructuras. Por otro lado, el estudio de las fábricas magnéticas de las calizas remagnetizadas ha permitido esclarecer algunos aspectos sobre el crecimiento de los granos de magnetita.Inter-folding remagnetizations are a useful to analyze inverted basins, whose extensional geometry was overprinted during compression. If both deformation stages are coaxial, this kind of remagnetizations can be used as geometric control at the remagnetization occurrence. The Jurassic carbonates of the Central high Atlas (Morocco) show an inter-folding remagnetization carried by magnetite. Using the small circle tools, the presence of this widespread remagnetization allow to shed light in some geological aspect about the Central High Atlas evolution, as the relative dating of the cleavage present in the area, or the role of halokinesis and igneous intrusion in the development of the characteristic structures present in the Atlas. On the other hand, the analysis of the magnetic fabrics carried by the remagnetized carbonates gives some clues about the growth of the magnetite grains that carry the remagnetization

[ES] Para poder diseñar un espacio es imprescindible saber cómo se ha entendido y construido a lo largo del tiempo. En este estudio se hará un recorrido desde el comienzo de la arquitectura cristiana hasta la actualidad, deteniéndonos en cómo y porqué se han pensado de esa manera. Centrándose en los diferentes ámbitos que se desarrollan y como estos condicionan la arquitectura. Evidence of remagnetized red-beds in the Middle Atlas (Morocco)

Se ha realizado un estudio paleomagnético en el límite entre el Atlas Medio Plegado y el Atlas Medio Tabular, en el entorno de los sinclinales de Skoura y Tighboula y el anticlinal de Boulemane. La finalidad de este trabajo es tratar de reconocer una remagnetización que afecte a los materiales sedimentarios de dicha área. Para ello se han realizado diferentes test de estabilidad: (i) dos test del pliegue, uno en el anticlinal de Boulemane muestreando cinco estaciones paleomagnéticas en calizas jurásicas, y otro en el sinclinal de Tighboula, con tres estaciones en capas rojas del Cretácico Inferior; (ii) un test del conglomerado en un nivel basal del Cretácico. Los resultados de dichos test indican que en capas rojas la componente característica es una remagnetización sinpliegue, mientras que la señal magnética en las calizas es débil y no permite aislar ninguna componente paleomagnética. La similitud en el comportamiento paleomagnético de las capas rojas (propiedades de la magnetización remanente natural, probable dirección NNW de la remagnetización, polaridad normal sistemática) con la observada en cuencas de similares características del Alto Atlas podrían indicar que ambas remagnetizaciones están relacionadas.A paleomagnetic study has been carried out in the boundary between the Folded Middle Atlas and the Tabular Middle Atlas, around Skoura and Tighboula synclines and Boulemane anticline. The goal of this work is to test the existence of a remagnetization affecting the sedimentary rocks in this area. For this purpose different stability tests were done: (i) two fold tests, one in the Boulemane anticline by studying five paleomagnetic sites located in Jurassic limestones, and the other in the Tighboula syncline in three sites from Cretaceous red-beds; (ii) a conglomerate test was done sampling a Cretaceous basal level and the overlying red-beds. The results of these tests show a synfolding remagnetization in the redbeds, whereas the magnetic signal of the limestones is too weak and it is not possible to isolate a magnetic component. Red-beds shows similar paleomagnetic properties than in other basins of the High Atlas (properties of the natural remanent magnetization, a probably NNW trend of the remagnetization and a systematic normal polarity), which could indicate a relationship between both.Proyecto CGL2012-38481 de la DGICyT, MINECO y por fondos FEDER de la Unión Europea

High-Fidelity Sequence-Selective Duplex Formation by Recognition-Encoded Melamine Oligomers.

Melamine oligomers composed of repeating triazine-piperidine units and equipped with phenol and phosphine oxide side-chains form H-bonded duplexes. The melamine backbone provides sufficient rigidity to prevent intramolecular folding of oligomers up to three recognition units in length, leading to reliable duplex formation between sequence complementary oligomers. NMR spectroscopy and isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC) were used to characterize the self-assembly properties of the oligomers. For length-complementary homo-oligomers, duplex formation in toluene is characterized by an increase in stability of an order of magnitude for every base-pair added to the chain. NMR spectra of dilute solutions of the AD 2-mer show that intramolecular H-bonding between neighboring recognition units on the chain (1,2-folding) does not occur. NMR spectra of dilute solutions of both the AAD and the ADD 3-mer show that 1,3-folding does not take place either. ITC was used to characterize interactions between all pairwise combinations of the six different 3-mer sequences, and the sequence complementary duplexes are approximately an order of magnitude more stable than duplexes with a single base mismatch. High-fidelity duplex formation combined with the synthetic accessibility of the monomer building blocks makes these systems attractive targets for further investigation
