In this text, we study the evolution of the border between the mapuche territory and its neighbors, from Spanish colonial times to the current period. According to our hypothesis, relations between the Chilean state and the mapuche people manifest a double movement: on one hand, a neo-colonization based on a powerful legal system imposing certain types of institutions and territoriality to the mapuche, and on the other hand, the various forms of resistance displayed by them. To illustrate this resistance, we focused on the phenomenon of "land recovery" (occupation by force of private land by the Mapuche communities): our goal is to explain the role played both in the current Mapuche land claims and the process of re-signification of the old frontier. We will examine first how this first border with the Kingdom of Spain was established as well as its evolution in time, focusing on the major historical processes that lead to the current situation, Then we will study the strategies of the Chilean State intended to suppress the border and occupate definitively the territory. Finally we will concentrate on the land recovery practices of the Mapuche, their meaning and their evolution
Excitons and biexcitons in symmetric electron-hole bilayers
Symmetric electron-hole bilayer systems have been studied at zero temperature
using the diffusion quantum Monte Carlo method. A flexible trial wave function
is used that can describe fluid, excitonic and biexcitonic phases. We calculate
condensate fractions and pair correlation functions for a large number of
densities rs and layer separations d. At small d we find a one-component fluid
phase, an excitonic fluid phase, and a biexcitonic fluid phase, and the
transitions among them appear to be continuous. At d = 0, excitons appear to
survive down to about rs = 0.5 a.u., and biexcitons form at rs > 2.5 a.u.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figure
This paper aims to analyze the philosophical debate between Ernst Cassirer and Martin Heidegger in the interwar period, starting from their dissimilar way of understanding human freedom as a process of self-configuration (Selbstbildung) of the subject or Dasein. First, we will examine the global reinterpretation of Kantian philosophy by both thinkers in the light of their philosophical projects: in the case of Cassirer, the philosophy of symbolic forms, in the case of Heidegger, the hermeneutics of facticity. Second, their interpretations of the aesthetic thought of Friedrich Schiller will be analyzed, within the framework of their reflections on the function of art for the understanding of the Selbstbildung. This will illuminate a new aspect of this debate and determine the distance between their two philosophical and political orientations.
The Use of Sensors to Prevent, Predict Transition to Chronic and Personalize Treatment of Low Back Pain: A Systematic Review
Non-specific low back pain (NSLBP) is a highly prevalent condition that implies substantial
expenses and affects quality of life in terms of occupational and recreational activities, physical and
psychological health, and general well-being. The diagnosis and treatment are challenging processes
due to the unknown underlying causes of the condition. Recently, sensors have been included in
clinical practice to implement its management. In this review, we furthered knowledge about the
potential benefits of sensors such as force platforms, video systems, electromyography, or inertial
measure systems in the assessment process of NSLBP. We concluded that sensors could identify
specific characteristics of this population like impaired range of movement, decreased stability, or
disturbed back muscular activation. Sensors could provide sufferers with earlier diagnosis, prevention
strategies to avoid chronic transition, and more efficient treatment approaches. Nevertheless, the
review has limitations that need to be considered in the interpretation of results.FEDER/Aragon Government—Dept. of Science, University,

Tail-regression estimator for heavy-tailed distributions of known tail indices and its application to continuum quantum Monte Carlo data.
Standard statistical analysis is unable to provide reliable confidence intervals on expectation values of probability distributions that do not satisfy the conditions of the central limit theorem. We present a regression-based estimator of an arbitrary moment of a probability distribution with power-law heavy tails that exploits knowledge of the exponents of its asymptotic decay to bypass this issue entirely. Our method is applied to synthetic data and to energy and atomic force data from variational and diffusion quantum Monte Carlo calculations, whose distributions have known asymptotic forms [J. R. Trail, Phys. Rev. E 77, 016703 (2008)PLEEE81539-375510.1103/PhysRevE.77.016703; A. Badinski et al., J. Phys.: Condens. Matter 22, 074202 (2010)JCOMEL0953-898410.1088/0953-8984/22/7/074202]. We obtain convergent, accurate confidence intervals on the variance of the local energy of an electron gas and on the Hellmann-Feynman force on an atom in the all-electron carbon dimer. In each of these cases the uncertainty on our estimator is 45% and 60 times smaller, respectively, than the nominal (ill-defined) standard error
