The utilization of water as a natural resource of renewable energy for power plant is one of the alternative solutions to replace the need for fossil fuels. there is a waterfall on the river which through Kali village in Pineleng district, From observations and the calculation speed of the flow by using buoys, and river cross-sectional area obtained the total river debit Q = 0.323 m3 / s. From the measurements is also obtained high fall the waterfall H = 12 m. Based on the existing height and debit of the water fall the major dimensions of a water turbine Pelton Micro Hydro type as the driving power generator was planned. The results of calculations for effective head = 12 m, with a water debit that is used to drive the runners Q = 0.06 m3/s, gained power generated by 4.0 kW. By the data is planned the main dimensions of micro turbine Pelton outer runner diameter Do = 380.8 mm, the diameter of the circle pin D = 202 mm, number of bowls z = 19 with 1 nozzle, and a shaft diameter ds = 45 mm

Ambient co‐presence: transnational family practices in polymedia environments

In this article, I develop an argument about a new type of mediated co-presence termed ‘ambient co-presence’, which is the peripheral, yet intense awareness of distant others made possible through the affordances of ubiquitous media environments. Drawing on a long-term ethnography of UK-based Filipino migrants and their communication practices with their transnational families, I observe the increasing prevalence of an ‘always on’ culture of ubiquitous connectivity. The functions of a social networking site (SNS) such as the ‘news feed’, combined with the portability of internet-enabled devices and locative services, mean that users can be peripherally, yet constantly aware of the actions and daily rhythms of their peers. This peripheral awareness, which can be pervasive, complements other types of mediated co-presence and has powerful emotional consequences – both positive and negative – for relationships at a distance. Participants with weak relationships reported an increase in conflict especially through opportunities for surveillance. By contrast, those who enjoyed strong relationships associated ambient co-presence with low-level emotional reassurance. In this article, I also observe that ambient co-presence has implications for community and belonging. Notwithstanding the development of online norms that are culturally specific, I argue that the concept of ambient co-presence can have cross-cultural relevance for understanding the consequences of mediated communication

CCR2-64I and CCR5Δ32 Polymorphisms in Korean Patients with Myasthenia Gravis

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Chemokines participate in the regulation of immune and inflammatory responses by interacting with their receptors, which are primarily expressed on immune and inflammatory cells such as B- and T-lymphocytes and antigen-presenting cells. Chemokines and their receptors are therefore considered to mediate inflammation and tissue damage in autoimmune disorders. Chemokine receptor (CCR) genotypes were recently identified, and the importance of their genetic polymorphisms in some autoimmune and infectious disorders has been demonstrated. To define the roles of the polymorphism of the CCR2 gene at codon 64 (CCR2-64I) and the 32-bp deletion in the coding region of CCR5 (CCR5Delta32) in Korean patients with myasthenia gravis (MG), we compared these genotypes in MG cases and healthy controls and investigated the clinical features associated with these genotypes. METHODS: One hundred and fifteen healthy controls (51 men and 64 women) and 109 MG patients (44 men and 65 women) from three University hospitals were included. We examined each patient for clinical features using electrophysiology tests, laboratory tests, and thymic pathology. The CCR2-64I and CCR5Delta32 polymorphisms were determined by the PCR-RFLP method. RESULTS: We detected no difference in the frequencies of CCR2-64I polymorphism between MG patients and healthy controls. All of the MG patients and the healthy controls were homozygous for the wild-type CCR5 genotype. The results of electrophysiological tests and thymic pathologies were not influenced by the type of CCR2-64I polymorphism. However, the anti-acetylcholine-receptor (AChR) antibody titer was higher in the CCR2 G/G genotype (13.34+/-12.71 nmol/L) than in the CCR2 A/A genotype (5.83+/-2.56 nmol/L). CONCLUSIONS: We found no evidence of an increased risk for MG associated with the CCR2-64I and CCR5Delta32 polymorphisms. However, the increased anti-AChR antibody titer in the patients with the CCR2 G/G genotype suggests that the CCR2 gene play a role in the pathophysiology of MG.ope

Mobile phone parenting: Reconfiguring relationships between Filipina migrant mothers and their left-behind children

The Philippines is an intensely migrant society with an annual migration of one million people, leading to over a tenth of the population working abroad. Many of these emigrants are mothers who often have children left behind. Family separation is now recognized as one of the social costs of migration affecting the global south. Relationships within such transnational families depend on long-distance communication and there is an increasing optimism among Filipino government agencies and telecommunications companies about the consequences of mobile phones for transnational families. This article draws on comparative research with UK-based Filipina migrants - mainly domestic workers and nurses - and their left-behind children in the Philippines. Our methodology allowed us to directly compare the experience of mothers and their children. The article concludes that while mothers feel empowered that the phone has allowed them to partially reconstruct their role as parents, their children are significantly more ambivalent about the consequences of transnational communication

Experimental testing on plastic hinge formation on steel beams : deflection and rotation angle profiles

In this project, study on the formation of plastic hinge including the spread of plastic zone and the length of the plastic hinge, the deflection and rotation angle profiles are carried out by experimental testing on Laboratory and finite element (FE) modelling using the general purpose FE software, ABAQUS. Six RHS steel beams (three specimens of 75mm x 50mm x 6mm and three specimens of 50mm x 75mm x 6mm) are tested with the propped cantilever support condition. An incremental single point load will be applied to the mid span of each test. Instrumentation such as strain gauges, LVDTs, digital camera, graph paper, etc. are installed to capture all the relevant data.Bachelor of Engineering (Civil
