Hadrons in AdS/QCD models

We discuss applications of gauge/gravity duality to describe the spectrum of light hadrons. We compare two particular 5-dimensional approaches: a model with an infrared deformed Anti-de Sitter metric and another one based on a dynamical AdS/QCD framework with back-reacted geometry in a dilaton/gravity background. The models break softly the scale invariance in the infrared region and allow mass gap for the field excitations in the gravity description, while keeping the conformal property of the metric close to the four-dimensional boundary. The models provide linear Regge trajectories for light mesons, associated with specially designed infrared gravity properties. We also review the results for the decay widths of the f0's into two pions, as overlap integrals between mesonic string amplitudes, which are in qualitative agreement with data

Gender Relations and Subjective Family Well-being Among Farmer Families: a Comparative Study Between Uplands and Lowlands Areas in West Java Province, Indonesia

The objectives of this study are described as follows: (1) To examine the conditions ofsocial, economic and demographic characteristics of poor farmer families who live atuplands and lowlands areas, (2) to describe the social-cultural and agroecosystemconditions of poor farmer families who live at uplands and lowlands areas, (3) Toexplain type of gender relations of poor farmer families who live at uplands andlowlands areas, and (4) to analyze factors that influenced subjective family well-beingof poor farmer families who live at uplands and lowlands areas. The chosen researchsites were Nanggung Sub-district, Bogor District as an upland area, and West TelukJambe Sub-district, Karawang District, West Java Province as a lowland area. The totalof 189 farmer families was used for this study (n= 90 in uplands district areas, and n=99 in lowlands district areas). It was found that the conditions of social-cultural andagroecosystem differ between upland and lowland areas. In general, both upland andlowland areas gender roles on farming activities, in terms of access and control toagricultural resources, were dominated by men. Family well-being was directlyinfluenced by higher education of husband and wife, indirectly influenced by lesseconomic pressure of the family, directly influenced by higher gender relations betweenhusband and wife, and directly influenced by less or higher external support. Thus,wealthy farmer families were the family that had educated husband and wife, lesseconomic pressures, equal gender relations and partnerships, and less or more receiveexternal supports. It is recommended that the next study should add variables of familycoping strategies related to family economic pressure and gender roles between husbandand wife

Protein and sensory quality of a food supplement formulated for the elderly

This study aimed to evaluate the composition, the protein quality, and the acceptability of a powder dietary supplement formulated for elderly people. The centesimal composition was analysed according to A.O.A.C. methods and the protein quality was assessed in weaning rats, by comparing Protein Efficiency Ratio (PER), Net Protein Ratio (NPR), and True Digestibility (TD) of the supplement with a casein-control based on AIN-93G diet. For the acceptance test samples of four flavours of the supplement dissolved in whole milk were offered to each judge, in monadic form. To assess the overall acceptability a scale of seven points was used. The sensory panel was composed of 121 Brazilian panellists, with mean age of 68.28±5.78 years. The supplement is promising in reaching the nutritional demands of the elderly, providing high content of protein and fibre and low content of fat. The values found for PER and NPR were shown to be superior to the control group of casein (P<0.05) and the digestibility was higher than 90%, showing that the supplement presented characteristics of a high nutritional value protein source. The supplements with banana, vanilla, and strawberry flavour were the most accepted and did not differ significantly for the overall acceptability

Controlling the Location and Spatial Extent of Nanobubbles Using Hydrophobically Nanopatterned Surfaces

The presence of nanobubbles—as imaged with tapping-mode atomic force microscopy— is controlled using nanopatterned surfaces possessing repeating patterns of polystyrene (hydrophobic domains) and polymethyl-methacrylate (hydrophilic domains). Creativity and the computer nerd: an exploration of attitudes

This study arises from our concern that many of our best art and design students are failing to make the most of the opportunities provided by IT because of their fear or dislike of computers. This not only deprives them of useful skills, but, even more importantly, deprives many IT based developments of their input. In this paper we investigate the relationship between attitudes to creativity and to computers among students. We quickly discard an approach based on theories of personality types as philosophically and educationally problematic. An approach based on the self-concept of artists and designers, in relation to their own creativity and to their feelings about computers, offers more hope of progress. This means that we do not try to define the attributes of "creative people". Rather, we ask what creativity means to students of art and design and relate these responses to their attitudes to computers. Self-concept depends on how the subjects see themselves within society and culture, and is liable to change as culture changes. One major instrument of cultural change at the present time is the growth of IT itself. We then describe a first attempt at using a psychological method - Kelly's Repertory Grids - to investigate the self-concept of artists and designers. It is hoped to continue with this approach in further studies over the next few years

Soroprevalência da infecção por Chlamydophila abortus em pequenos ruminantes explorados na microrregião do Alto Médio Gurguéia, no estado do Piauí, Brasil.

[Chlamydophila abortus infection seroprevalence in small ruminants exploited in the Upper Middle Gurguéia Microregion, State of Piaui, Brazil]. Abstract: Aiming estimate the Chlamydophila abortus seroprevalence in small ruminants at upper middle Gurguéia microregion, 352 sheep and 298 goats serum samples were collected. Complement Fixation test was performed for Chlamydophila sp. diagnosis (OIE, 2000). The reaction was conducted in microplates using test serum dilutions of 1:16 to 1:512. The prevalence in small ruminants was 12.61% (82/650). Therefore, the infectious agent Chlamydophila abortus is present in sheep and goat flocks in microregion of the High Middle Gurguéia in the state of Piauí.Trabalho apresentado nos Anais do VII Congresso Norte Nordeste de Reprodução Anima (CONERA), Mossoró, maio, 2014
