The Version of Record is available online at https://doi.org/10.1088/2053-1583/ab0113We theoretically study the formation of single-particle bound states confined by strain at the center of bubbles in monolayers of transition-metal dichalcogenides (TMDs). Bubbles ubiquitously form in two-dimensional crystals on top of a substrate by the competition between van der Waals forces and the hydrostatic pressure exerted by trapped fluid. This leads to strong strain at the center of the bubble that reduces the bangap locally, creating potential wells for the electrons that confine states inside. We simulate the spectrum versus the bubble radius for the four semiconducting group VI TMDs, MoS2, WSe2, WS2 and MoSe2, and find an overall Fock-Darwin spectrum of bubble bound states, characterised by small deviations compatible with Berry curvature effects. We analyse the density of states, the state degeneracies, orbital structure and optical transition rules. Our results show that elastic bubbles in these materials are remarkably efficient at confining photocarriersWe acknowledge funding from the Graphene Flagship, contract CNECTICT-604391, from the Comunidad de Madrid through Grant MAD2D-CM, S2013/MIT-3007, from the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness through Grants No. RYC-2011-09345, RYC-2016-20663, FIS2015-65706-P, FIS2016-80434-P (AEI/FEDER, EU) and the María de Maeztu Programme for Units of Excellence in R&D (MDM-2014-0377

Sobre monjes y literatura monástica en la Córdoba Emiral

    Get PDF
Thus, once the existing evidence regarding this matter has been presented and after proposing possible causes for this process, the author has traced back the infl uence this movement left in the Christian writers of the time, particularly the presence in their literature of works about monks and monastic life

The aim of the present paper is to study to what extent the Latin- Christian literary heritage has been kept in the mid-ninth century Cordova through the works of the main Muzarabic writers. Therefore, after considering the situation of the cultural transmission, especially the teaching at schools and the existence of books, the author studies, in order of importance, the survival of this heritage, particularly that of the Christian Antiquity, the Visigothic period, the Carolingian revival and the classical Antiquity.

Entropy production and Kullback-Leibler divergence between stationary trajectories of discrete systems

The irreversibility of a stationary time series can be quantified using the Kullback-Leibler divergence (KLD) between the probability to observe the series and the probability to observe the time-reversed series. Moreover, this KLD is a tool to estimate entropy production from stationary trajectories since it gives a lower bound to the entropy production of the physical process generating the series. In this paper we introduce analytical and numerical techniques to estimate the KLD between time series generated by several stochastic dynamics with a finite number of states. We examine the accuracy of our estimators for a specific example, a discrete flashing ratchet, and investigate how close is the KLD to the entropy production depending on the number of degrees of freedom of the system that are sampled in the trajectories.Comment: 14 pages, 7 figure

Cyanate Assimilation by the Alkaliphilic Cyanide-Degrading Bacterium Pseudomonas pseudoalcaligenes CECT5344: Mutational Analysis of the cyn Gene Cluster

    Get PDF
The alkaliphilic bacterium Pseudomonas pseudoalcaligenes CECT5344 can grow with cyanate, cyanide, or cyanide-containing industrial residues as the sole nitrogen source, but the assimilation of cyanide and cyanate takes place through independent pathways. Therefore, cyanide degradation involves a chemical reaction between cyanide and oxaloacetate to form a nitrile that is hydrolyzed to ammonium by the nitrilase NitC, whereas cyanate assimilation requires a cyanase that catalyzes cyanate decomposition to ammonium and carbon dioxide. The P. pseudoalcaligenes CECT5344 cynFABDS gene cluster codes for the putative transcriptional regulator CynF, the ABC-type cyanate transporter CynABD, and the cyanase CynS. In this study, transcriptional analysis revealed that the structural cynABDS genes constitute a single transcriptional unit, which was induced by cyanate and repressed by ammonium. Mutational characterization of the cyn genes indicated that CynF was essential for cynABDS gene expression and that nitrate/nitrite transporters may be involved in cyanate uptake, in addition to the CynABD transport system. Biodegradation of hazardous jewelry wastewater containing high amounts of cyanide and metals was achieved in a batch reactor operating at an alkaline pH after chemical treatment with hydrogen peroxide to oxidize cyanide to cyanate

Municipality and Nation. Public Services, Symbols and Rituals during the Peronism (Rosario 1943-1945)

This article analyzes the centralization of the Peronist government in a medium span city like Rosario. The aim is show how Peronism transform the Central State in a National and Peronist State, through a policy of control and centralization on government of the Argentine cities like Rosario. The analysis of the processes of nationalization of public services, previously concessioning for the municipality, allowed us of exploring the reaches and limits of the Peronist central planning. By analyzing the production of a symbolic system peronist and peronizing (addition to exposing the contradictions of this project nacionalizing-centralizing) we have visualized in rituals and anniversaries as a symbolic “lubricant” of that sociocultural machine. Peronist nationalism material was supported by the production of meaning, able to shape what P. Bourdieu called sociodicea

4 págs.; 3 figs.; PACS number~s!: 42.50.Dv, 42.50.Lc, 42.65.KyThe competition between the χ(2) nonlinearity of a resonant second-harmonic-generation (SHG) system and an added χ(3) nonlinearity shifts the Hopf bifurcation of the standard SHG towards higher photon numbers eventually completely stabilizing the system. Remarkably, perfect squeezing survives the stabilization. Two important consequences are discussed, namely, efficient bright squeezing generation and strong suppression of the excess noise which, for parameters corresponding to an experiment reported in the literature, can be reduced by two orders of magnitude without diminishing the squeezing. Possible experimental implementations are finally discussed. ©1997 American Physical SocietyThis work was supported in part by Project No. TIC95- 0563-C05-03 (CICYT, Spain).Peer Reviewe

    Hysteretic nonequilibrium Ising-Bloch transition

We show that a parametrically driven cubic-quintic complex Ginzburg-Landau equation exhibits a hysteretic nonequilibrium Ising-Bloch transition for large enough quintic nonlinearity. These results help to understand the recent experimental observation of this pheomenon [A. Esteban-Martin et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 94, 223903 (2005)].Comment: 3 pages + six figure
