    Entropy production in chemically non-equilibrium quark-gluon plasma created in central Pb+Pb collisions at LHC energies

    We study the possibility that partonic matter produced at early stage of ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions is out of chemical equilibrium. It is assumed that initially this matter is mostly composed of gluons, but quarks and antiquarks are produced at later times. The dynamical evolution of partonic system is described by the Bjorken-like ideal hydrodynamics with a time dependent quark fugacity. The results of this model are compared with those obtained by assuming the complete chemical equilibrium of partons already at the initial stage. It is shown that in a chemically non-equilibrium scenario the entropy gradually increases, and about 25% of the total final entropy is generated during the hydrodynamic evolution of deconfined matter. We argue that the (anti)quark suppression included in this approach may be responsible for reduced (anti)baryon to meson ratios observed in heavy-ion collisions at LHC energies.Comment: 19 pages, 6 figures, minor changes to match published versio

    Increased Sensitivity to Possible Muonium to Antimuonium Conversion

    A new experimental search for muonium-antimuonium conversion was conducted at the Paul Scherrer Institute, Villigen, Switzerland. The preliminary analysis yielded one event fulfilling all required criteria at an expected background of 1.7(2) events due to accidental coincidences. An upper limit for the conversion probability in 0.1 T magnetic field is extracted as 810118 \cdot 10^{-11} (90% CL).Comment: 2 figure

    It is Petras who first developed the P-symmetric theory for a spin 1/2 particle with an anomalous magnetic moment within the general Gel’fand – Yaglom approach. Recently, similarly it was introduced a P-asymmetric wave equation for a spin 1/2 particle which describes a particle with an electric dipole moment. In this paper, we study solutions of the equation for the P-asymmetric particle in presence of external magnetic fields. It turns out that the energy spectra are the same for P-asymmetric and P-symmetric particles. To clarify this coincidence, we demonstrate that there exists a simple transformation relating these two models, by which one wave equation can be reduced to the form of the other. Meanwhile, expressions for wave functions and P-reflection operators are different in these two theories. We extend this approach to the model in which both P-symmetric and P-asymmetric sectors are presented. The main result is the same, namely, there exists a simple, more general as compared with the mentioned above transformation relating the P-symmetric model and the model with two sectors, and expressions for wave functions and P-reflection operators are different in these two bases. We demonstrate that in the presence of an external uniform magnetic field, the energy spectra in the model with two sectors coincide with those in the P-symmetric theory. Thus, we develop a general theory for the P-asymmetric model and the model with two sectors within the Petras approach.P-симметричная теория частицы с аномальным магнитным моментом была развита Петрашем в рамках общего подхода Гельфанда – Яглома. Недавно в рамках аналогичного подхода было введено P-асимметричное волновое уравнение для частицы со спином 1/2, которое описывает частицу с электрическим дипольным моментом. В настоящей работе исследуются решения уравнения для P-асимметричной частицы в присутствии внешних магнитных полей. Оказалось, что энергетический спектр P-асимметричной частицы такой же, как у P-симметричной частицы. Для обоснования этого совпадения показано, что существует простое преобразование, с помощью которого одно волновое уравнение может быть приведено к виду другого, при этом выражения для волновых функций и операторов P-отражения различны в этих двух теориях. Данный подход обобщен на модель, в которой представлены оба сектора: P-симметричный и P-асимметричный. Основной результат оказался тем же: существует простое преобразование, более общее, чем указанное выше, связывающее P-симметричную модель и модель с двумя секторами, выражения для волновых функций и операторов P-отражения различны в этих двух базисах. Показано, что при наличии внешнего однородного магнитного поля энергетические спектры в модели с двумя секторами совпадают с таковыми в P-симметричной теории.     Effects of fluoxetine on hippocampal neurogenesis and neuroprotection in the model of global cerebral ischemia in rats

    A selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor, fluoxetine, has recently attracted a significant interest as a neuroprotective therapeutic agent. There is substantial evidence of improved neurogenesis under fluoxetine treatment of brain ischemia in animal stroke models. We studied long-term effects of fluoxetine treatment on hippocampal neurogenesis, neuronal loss, inflammation, and functional recovery in a new model of global cerebral ischemia (GCI). Brain ischemia was induced in adult Wistar male rats by transient occlusion of three main vessels originating from the aortic arch and providing brain blood supply. Fluoxetine was injected intraperitoneally in a dose of 20 mg/kg for 10 days after surgery. To evaluate hippocampal neurogenesis at time points 10 and 30 days, 5-Bromo-2'-deoxyuridine was injected at days 8-10 after GCI. According to our results, 10-day fluoxetine injections decreased neuronal loss and inflammation, improved survival and functional recovery of animals, enhanced neurogenesis, and prevented an early pathological increase in neural stem cell recruitment in the subgranular zone (SGZ) of the hippocampus without reducing the number of mature neurons at day 30 after GCI. In summary, this study suggests that fluoxetine may provide a promising therapy in cerebral ischemia due to its neuroprotective, anti-inflammatory, and neurorestorative effect

    The development of the NEMO3 detector, which is now running in the Frejus Underground Laboratory (L.S.M. Laboratoire Souterrain de Modane), was begun more than ten years ago.     Background. Severe open injuries of the lower extremities in most cases are the result of high-energy trauma, because the foot and ankle are damaged as a result of automobile accidents almost in every fourth victim. According to the literature, the percentage of infectious complications after surgical debridement of open injuries of the foot is 43–67.9% and shows no tendency to decrease.Material and methods. We performed 32 operations with the use of free revascularized grafts in patients aged from 16 to 70 years with extensive posttraumatic defects of the foot between 2010 and 2018.Results. As a result, 30 (93.7%) out of 32 grafts provided foot support ability provided during the post-operative period. When replacing large defects (more than 80 cm2) of soft tissues supporting surface of the foot we used free musculocutaneous flap of the latissimus dorsi, fasciocutaneous flaps were used for defects of the dorsum of the foot (less than 80 cm2). Long-term results were assessed using the Foot and ankle ability Measure (FAAM) questionnaire.Conclusion. Primary early replacement of tissue defects on the foot with free revascularized autografts is the method of choice for solving this problem, as it allows you to maintain the supporting function of the foot and is often alternative method to amputation.Актуальность. Тяжелые открытые повреждения нижних конечностей в большинстве случаев являются следствием высокоэнергетической травмы; так, стопа и голеностопный сустав повреждаются в результате автомобильных аварий почти у каждого четвертого пострадавшего. По данным литературы, доля инфекционных осложнений после хирургической обработки открытых повреждений стопы составляет 43–67,9% и не проявляет тенденции к снижению.Материал и методы. В отделении неотложной пластической и реконструктивной хирургии НИИ СП им. Н.В. Склифосовского за период с 2010 по 2018 год было выполнено 32 операции с применением свободных реваскуляризированных лоскутов у пациентов в возрасте от 16 до 70 лет с обширными посттравматическими дефектами стопы.Результаты. В результате проведенных операций 30 из 32 пересаженных лоскутов (93,7%) обеспечили опороспособность стопы в послеоперационном периоде. При замещении обширных дефектов мягких тканей опорной поверхности стопы (более 80 см2) использовали свободный кожно-мышечный лоскут широчайшей мышцы спины, при дефектах на тыльной поверхности стопы (менее 80 см2) применяли кожно-фасциальные лоскуты. Отдаленные результаты оценивали по опроснику функциональных возможностей стопы и голеностопного сустава Foot and Ankle Ability Measure (FAAM).Заключение. Первичное раннее замещение дефектов тканей на стопе свободными реваскуляризированными аутотрансплантатами является методом выбора для решения проблемы подобных травм, так как позволяет сохранить опорную функцию стопы и часто является альтернативой ампутации
