Optical photometry of the UCM Lists I and II
We present Johnson B CCD photometry for the whole sample of galaxies of the
Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM) Survey Lists I and II. They constitute
a well-defined and complete sample of galaxies in the Local Universe with
active star formation. The data refer to 191 S0 to Irr galaxies at an averaged
redshift of 0.027, and complement the already published Gunn r, J and K
photometries. In this paper the observational and reduction features are
discussed in detail, and the new colour information is combined to search for
clues on the properties of the galaxies, mainly by comparing our sample with
other surveys.Comment: 14 pages, 7 PostScript figures, accepted for publication in A&AS,

Generated emotions by various types of games in physical education
emociones en los cuatro dominios de acción motriz objeto de estudioThe aim of this research has been to know which are the generated emotions
through the practice of diverse kinds of games, through a proposal. Specifically,
it is have been tried to know how cooperative and opposition games allow for
the emotional development of the students with respect to traditional
cooperative games and traditional opposition games. A total of 50 children of 6th
grade took part in this work. The instrument used was the Gil-Madrona and
Martinez's questionnaire (2016) about socio-emotional perceptions. The results
indicate a similarity between using cooperative and traditional cooperative
games. However, traditional opposition games produce greater positive
emotions in students with respect to opposition games. Finally, it is concluded
that the approach used is effective to produce emotions in the four motor
domains studie
Optical photometry of the UCM Lists I and II. II-B band surface photometry and morphological discussion
We present Johnson B surface photometry for the UCM Survey galaxies.
One-dimensional bulge-disk decomposition is attempted, discussing on fitting
functions and computational procedures. The results from this decomposition,
jointly with concentration indices and an asymmetry coefficient, are employed
to study the morphological properties of these galaxies. We also compare our
results with the previous morphological classification established using Gunn r
imaging data and with other samples of galaxies. No major statistical
differences in morphology are found between red and blue data, although some
characteristics such as size and luminosity concentration vary. We find a
correlation between luminosity and size. Several parameters are used to
segregate the objects according to their morphological type.Comment: 19 pages, 20 PostScript figures, accepted for publication in A&A,

The use of pocket-size imaging devices: a position statement of the European Association of Echocardiography.
Pocket-size imaging devices are a completely new type of echo machines which have recently reached the market. They are very cheap, smartphone-size hand-held echo machines with limited technical capabilities. The aim of this European Association of Echocardiography (EAE) position paper is to provide recommendations on the use of pocket-size imaging devices in the clinical arena by profiling the educational needs of potential users other than cardiologists experts in echo. EAE recommendations about pocket-size imaging devices can be summarized in: (1) pocket-size imaging devices do not provide a complete diagnostic echocardiographic examination. The range of indications for their use is therefore limited. (2) Imaging assessment with pocket-size imaging devices should be reported as part of the physical examination of the patient. Image data should be stored according to the applicable national rules for technical examinations. (3) With the exception of cardiologists who are certified for transthoracic echocardiography according to national legislation, specific training and certification is recommended for all users. The certification should be limited to the clinical questions that can potentially be answered by pocket-size devices. (4) The patient has to be informed that an examination with the current generation of pocket-size imaging devices does not replace a complete echocardiogram.Peer reviewe
Inadequate heart rate control despite widespread use of beta-blockers in outpatients with stable CAD: findings from the international prospective CLARIFY registry
Background:
To use CLARIFY, a prospective registry of patients with stable CAD (45 countries), to explore heart rate (HR) control and beta-blocker use.<p></p>
Methods:
We analyzed the CLARIFY population according to beta-blocker use via descriptive statistics with Pearson's χ2 test for comparisons, as well as a multivariable stepwise model.<p></p>
Results:
Data on beta-blocker use was available for 32,914 patients, in whom HR was 68 ± 11 bpm; patients with angina, previous myocardial infarction, and heart failure had HRs of 69 ± 12, 68 ± 11, and 70 ± 12 bpm, respectively. 75% of these patients were receiving beta-blockers. Bisoprolol (34%), metoprolol tartrate (16%) or succinate (13%), atenolol (15%), and carvedilol (12%) were mostly used; mean dosages were 49%, 76%, 35%, 53%, and 45% of maximum doses, respectively. Patients aged < 65 years were more likely to receive beta-blockers than patients ≥ 75 years (P < 0.0001). Gender had no effect. Subjects with HR ≤ 60 bpm were more likely to be on beta-blockers than patients with HR ≥ 70 bpm (P < 0.0001). Patients with angina, previous myocardial infarction, heart failure, and hypertension were more frequently receiving beta-blockers (all P < 0.0001), and those with PAD and asthma/COPD less frequently (both P < 0.0001). Beta-blocker use varied according to geographical region (from 87% to 67%).<p></p>
Conclusions:
Three-quarters of patients with stable CAD receive beta-blockers. Even so, HR is insufficiently controlled in many patients, despite recent guidelines for the management of CAD. There is still much room for improvement in HR control in the management of stable CAD
Quantum anomaly and 2D-3D crossover in strongly interacting Fermi gases
We present an experimental investigation of collective oscillations in
harmonically trapped Fermi gases through the crossover from two to three
dimensions. Specifically, we measure the frequency of the radial monopole or
breathing mode as a function of dimensionality in Fermi gases with tunable
interactions. The frequency of this mode is set by the adiabatic
compressibility and probes the thermodynamic equation of state. In 2D, a
dynamical scaling symmetry for atoms interacting via a {\delta}-potential
predicts the breathing mode to occur at exactly twice the harmonic confinement
frequency. However, a renormalized quantum treatment introduces a new length
scale which breaks this classical scale invariance resulting in a so-called
quantum anomaly. Our measurements deep in the 2D regime lie above the
scale-invariant prediction for a range of interaction strengths indicating the
breakdown of a {\delta}-potential model for atomic interactions. As the
dimensionality is tuned from 2D to 3D we see the breathing oscillation
frequency evolve smoothly towards the 3D limit.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figure
