Minimally non-local nucleon-nucleon potentials with chiral two-pion exchange including 's
We construct a coordinate-space chiral potential, including -isobar
intermediate states in its two-pion-exchange component. The contact
interactions entering at next-to-leading and next-to-next-to-next-to-leading
orders ( and , respectively, denoting generically the low
momentum scale) are rearranged by Fierz transformations to yield terms at most
quadratic in the relative momentum operator of the two nucleons. The low-energy
constants multiplying these contact interactions are fitted to the 2013 Granada
database, consisting of 2309 and 2982 data (including, respectively,
148 and 218 normalizations) in the laboratory-energy range 0--300 MeV. For the
total 5291 and data in this range, we obtain a /datum of
roughly 1.3 for a set of three models characterized by long- and short-range
cutoffs, and respectively, ranging from fm down to fm. The long-range
(short-range) cutoff regularizes the one- and two-pion exchange (contact) part

The role of stellar radial motions in shaping galaxy surface brightness profiles
Aims. The physics driving features such as breaks observed in galaxy surface brightness (SB) profiles remains contentious. Here, we assess the importance of stellar radial motions in shaping their characteristics. Methods. We use the simulated Milky Way-mass cosmological discs from the Ramses Disc Environment Study (RaDES) to characterise the radial redistribution of stars in galaxies displaying type-I (pure exponentials), II (downbending), and III (upbending) SB profiles. We compare radial profiles of the mass fractions and the velocity dispersions of different sub-populations of stars according to their birth and current location. Results. Radial redistribution of stars is important in all galaxies regardless of their light profiles. Type-II breaks seem to be a consequence of the combined effects of outward-moving and accreted stars. The former produce shallower inner profiles (lack of stars in the inner disc) and accumulate material around the break radius and beyond, strengthening the break; the latter can weaken or even convert the break into a pure exponential. Further accretion from satellites can concentrate material in the outermost parts, leading to type-III breaks that can coexist with type-II breaks, but situated further out. Type-III galaxies would be the result of an important radial redistribution of material throughout the entire disc, as well as a concentration of accreted material in the outskirts. In addition, type-III galaxies display the most efficient radial redistribution and the largest number of accreted stars, followed by type-I and II systems, suggesting that type-I galaxies may be an intermediate case between types-II and III. In general, the velocity dispersion profiles of all galaxies tend to flatten or even increase around the locations where the breaks are found. The age and metallicity profiles are also affected, exhibiting different inner gradients depending on their SB profile, being steeper in the case of type-II systems (as found observationally). The steep type-II profiles might be inherent to their formation rather than acquired via radial redistribution
Anti-Angiogenic Treatment (Sunitinib) for Disseminated Malignant Haemangiopericytoma: A Case Study and Review of the Literature
Introduction: A meningeal haemangiopericytoma (HP) is a mesenchymal tumour that makes up less than 1% of all CNS tumours. HPs arise from pericytes and present high rates of recurrence and distant metastasis. The primary treatment option is surgery. When the disease is disseminated, chemotherapy produces a weak and short-lived response; therefore, new drugs are needed. Case Presentation: We describe the case of a 65-year-old woman with a 13-year history of recurrent HP. After local treatment with radiotherapy, she developed metastases that required systemic treatment, and treatment with sunitinib, an oral inhibitor of the vascular endothelial growth factor receptor and the platelet-derived growth factor receptor, was initiated. As a result, radiological stabilisation of the systemic disease was maintained for over 12 months. Conclusions: Anti-angiogenic agents can be useful for treating disseminated HP, but further studies are needed to confirm their possible role in controlling metastatic disease
A zinc-doped endodontic cement facilitates functional mineralization and stress dissipation at the dentin surface
The purpose of this study was to evaluate nanohardness and viscoelastic behavior of dentin surfaces treated with two canal sealer cements for dentin remineralization. Dentin surfaces were subjected to: i) 37% phosphoric acid (PA) or ii) 0.5 M ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) conditioning prior to the application of two experimental hydroxyapatite-based cements, containing sodium hydroxide (calcypatite) or zinc oxide (oxipatite), respectively. Samples were stored in simulated body fluid during 24 h or 21 d. The intertubular and peritubular dentin were evaluated using a nanoindenter to assess nanohardness (Hi). The load/displacement responses were used for the nano-dynamic mechanical analysis to estimate complex modulus (E*) and tan delta (?). The modulus mapping was obtained by imposing a quasistatic force setpoint to which a sinusoidal force was superimposed. AFM imaging and FESEM analysis were performed. After 21 d of storage, dentin surfaces treated with EDTA+calcypatite, PA+calcypatite and EDTA+oxipatite showed viscoelastic discrepancies between peritubular and intertubular dentin, meaning a risk for cracking and breakdown of the surface. At both 24 h and 21 d, tan ? values at intertubular dentin treated with the four treatments performed similar. At 21 d time point, intertubular dentin treated with PA+oxipatite achieved the highest complex modulus and nanohardness, i.e., highest resistance to deformation and functional mineralization, among groups. Intertubular and peritubular dentin treated with PA+oxipatite showed similar values of tan ? after 21 d of storage. This produced a favorable dissipation of energy with minimal energy concentration, preserving the structural integrity at the dentin surface
Nonlinear Interaction of Transversal Modes in a CO2 Laser
We show the possibility of achieving experimentally a Takens-Bogdanov
bifurcation for the nonlinear interaction of two transverse modes ()
in a laser. The system has a basic O(2) symmetry which is perturbed by
some symmetry-breaking effects that still preserve the symmetry. The
pattern dynamics near this codimension two bifurcation under such symmetries is
described. This dynamics changes drastically when the laser properties are

Recovering star formation histories: Integrated-light analyses vs stellar colour-magnitude diagrams
Accurate star formation histories (SFHs) of galaxies are fundamental for
understanding the build-up of their stellar content. However, the most accurate
SFHs - those obtained from colour-magnitude diagrams (CMDs) of resolved stars
reaching the oldest main sequence turnoffs (oMSTO) - are presently limited to a
few systems in the Local Group. It is therefore crucial to determine the
reliability and range of applicability of SFHs derived from integrated light
spectroscopy, as this affects our understanding of unresolved galaxies from low
to high redshift.
To evaluate the reliability of current full spectral fitting techniques in
deriving SFHs from integrated light spectroscopy by comparing SFHs from
integrated spectra to those obtained from deep CMDs of resolved stars.
We have obtained a high signal--to--noise (S/N 36.3 per \AA)
integrated spectrum of a field in the bar of the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC)
using EFOSC2 at the 3.6 meter telescope at La Silla Observatory. For this same
field, resolved stellar data reaching the oMSTO are available. We have compared
the star formation rate (SFR) as a function of time and the age-metallicity
relation (AMR) obtained from the integrated spectrum using {\tt STECKMAP}, and
the CMD using the IAC-star/MinnIAC/IAC-pop set of routines. For the sake of
completeness we also use and discuss other synthesis codes ({\tt STARLIGHT} and
{\tt ULySS}) to derive the SFR and AMR from the integrated LMC spectrum.
We find very good agreement (average differences 4.1 ) between the
SFR(t) and the AMR obtained using {\tt STECKMAP} on the integrated light
spectrum, and the CMD analysis. {\tt STECKMAP} minimizes the impact of the
age-metallicity degeneracy and has the advantage of preferring smooth solutions

Diseño y validación analítica de una PCR duplex para la detección de Ehrlichia y Rickettsia en garrapatas
ABSTRACT: Ehrlichia and Rickettsia are two major rickettsial genera transmitted by ticks that affect a
number of wild and domestic animal species and human populations around the world. Objective: To design
and validate a duplex PCR for Ehrlichia and Rickettsia in ticks. Methods:Assay validation included testing for
sensitivity,specificity, reproducibility, and robustness of the PCR. The groELand 23sr RNAgenes were used for
Ehrlichia and Rickettsia, respectively. Results: The limit of detection was one hundred gene copies per 50 μLof
reaction for Ehrlichia spp, and one gene copy of Rickettsia per 50 μL of reaction. In general, the primers of the
test only amplified in silico those bacterial agents for which they were originally designed, with the exception
of the primers for Rickettsia that also amplified Methylocystis sp. The test was reproducible (intermediate
precision) 96.7% of the times for both agents. The test was robust enough to tolerate concentration changes
of all reagents with the exception of Taq DNA polymerase. Conclusions: The validation results indicated that
this PCR is useful for detection in both bacterial genera and it is a good candidate for diagnostic validation.RESUMEN: Ehrlichia spp. y Rickettsia spp.son dos de los principales géneros rickettsiales transmitidos por garrapatas que afectan a animales silvestres, domésticos y humanos alrededor del mundo. Objetivo: diseñar y validar una prueba PCR duplex para Ehrlichia y Rickettsia en garrapatas. Métodos: la validación de la prueba incluyó ensayos de sensibilidad, especificidad, reproducibilidad y robustez. En la PCR se usó groEL y ARNr 23S como genes blanco para Ehrlichia y Rickettsia, respectivamente. Resultados: el límite de detección fue de 100 copias del gen por 50 μL de reacción para Ehrlichia spp y una copia del gen de Rickettsia por 50 μLde reacción. En general, los cebadores de la prueba solo amplificaron in silico los agentes bacterianos para los cuales fueron originalmente diseñados, con la excepción de los cebadores de Rickettsia que también amplificaron Methylocystis sp. La prueba fue reproducible (precisión intermedia) en un 96.7% de las veces para ambos agentes. La prueba fue suficientemente robusta como para tolerar cambios de concentración de los diferentes reactivos, con excepción de la Taq DNA polimerasa. Conclusión: los resultados de validación indican que la PCR es útil para detectar ambos géneros bacterianos y podría usarse para validación diagnóstica
