Transmission of plant viruses through seed can be one of the major factors contributing to long- distance dispersal through global trade of seeds and can have important ecological consequences for virus dissemination. Begomoviruses (genus Begomovirus, family Geminiviridae), and among them isolates of the species Tomato leaf curl New Delhi virus (ToLCNDV), cause significant yield losses in economically important crops worldwide. These viruses are horizontally transmitted in nature in a circulative and persistent manner by the whitefly Bemisia tabaci but in recent years several reports have raised the possibility of vertical transmission through seeds for some members of this genus. We have investigated the possible transmission by melon (Cucumis melo L.) seeds of a ToLCNDV isolate of the “Spain” strain, in three different melon cultivars (all susceptible to ToLCNDV). The presence of ToLCNDV in floral tissues and the detection of viral DNA in seeds reveals the seed-borne nature of this virus. However, grow-out studies conducted with the progeny of melon plants germinated from seeds collected from ToLCNDV-infected plants and evaluated at early (1 leaf) or at late (20 leaves) growth stages did not support the vertical transmission of ToLCNDV from seeds to the offspring.Universidad de Málaga. Efeitos da leitura em voz alta em compreensão de leitura Alunos do ensino fundamental /

Esta investigación pretendió estudiar los efectos de la lectura en voz alta en el nivel de comprensión lectora en estudiantes de básica primaria. Se asumió el enfoque cuantitativo con un tipo de estudio explicativo bajo un diseño cuasi-experimental con prebruepapostprueba en un solo grupo experimental. La muestra estuvo representada por un total de 33 estudiantes, luego de reunir unos criterios de inclusión y exclusión, a estos se les aplicó la prueba de comprensión lectora de complejidad Lingüística Progresiva (C.L.P), de Alliende, Condemarín, y Milicic, (1991). Posterior a la aplicación, se ejecutó la estrategia del programa de lectura en voz en un periodo de tiempo de 4 meses. El análisis de los resultados se realizó con el paquete estadístico SPSS versión 22 con la aplicación de estadística no paramétrica, pues la muestra no presentó una distribución normal, por ello se utilizó la prueba Wilcoxon, con un nivel de significancia de 0.05. Los resultados dejaron entrever que los estudiantes luego de aplicación del programa mejoraron significativamente los niveles literal (p: 000) e inferencial (p: 0.014 y p:0.001). Sin embargo, para el nivel crítico textual (p: 0.485 y p: 0.034) no existe significancia estadística. Se concluye que los niveles de comprensión lectora pueden mejorar con la intervención de la lectura en voz alta en sus niveles literales e inferencial y se corrobora que a medida que se pasa a otro nivel de lectura, la complejidad es mayor y para alcanzarlo se requiere de mayor trabajo y tiempo

Imputation of the Date of HIV Seroconversion in a Cohort of Seroprevalent Subjects: Implications for Analysis of Late HIV Diagnosis

Objectives. Since subjects may have been diagnosed before cohort entry, analysis of late HIV diagnosis (LD) is usually restricted to the newly diagnosed. We estimate the magnitude and risk factors of LD in a cohort of seroprevalent individuals by imputing seroconversion dates. Methods. Multicenter cohort of HIV-positive subjects who were treatment naive at entry, in Spain, 2004–2008. Multiple-imputation techniques were used. Subjects with times to HIV diagnosis longer than 4.19 years were considered LD. Results. Median time to HIV diagnosis was 2.8 years in the whole cohort of 3,667 subjects. Factors significantly associated with LD were: male sex; Sub-Saharan African, Latin-American origin compared to Spaniards; and older age. In 2,928 newly diagnosed subjects, median time to diagnosis was 3.3 years, and LD was more common in injecting drug users. Conclusions. Estimates of the magnitude and risk factors of LD for the whole cohort differ from those obtained for new HIV diagnoses

Valoración por el consumidor de las características hedónicas, nutritivas y saludables del amaranto

La finalidad del estudio es conocer en qué medida los consumidores valoran las propiedades sensoriales, hedónicas, nutritivas y saludables de alimentos con alto valor nutritivo, como es el caso del amaranto. El estudio se fundamentó en la teoría del Valor Percibido por el Consumidor (vpc) y para obtener la información se utilizó un cuestionario con preguntas cerradas, aplicado a una muestra de 341 consumidores. Para el análisis estadístico se utilizó un modelo de ecuaciones estructurales. Los resultados obtenidos indican que el precio y la calidad, son los componentes más importantes en la conformación del vpc en el amaranto, en tanto que sus características hedónicas están muy cerca de equipararse con esos dos componentes. La nutrición es la que menos contribuyó a la creación del vpc, y en cuanto a sus propiedades benéficas para la salud, éstas son desconocidas por la mayoría de los encuestados

Cytokine and microRNA levels during different periods of paradoxical sleep deprivation and sleep recovery in rats

Background Sleep has a fundamental role in the regulation of homeostasis. The aim of this study was to assess the effect of different periods of paradoxical sleep deprivation (PSD) and recovery on serum levels of cytokines and miRNAs related to inflammatory responses. Methods Male Wistar rats were submitted to a PSD of 24, 96, or 192 h, or of 192 h followed by 20 days of recovery (192 h PSD+R). The concentrations of corticosterone, cytokines (IL-6, TNF, IL-10, Adiponectin) and miRNAs (miR-146a, miR-155, miR-223, miR-16, miR-126, miR-21) in serum were evaluated. Results At PSD 24 h a significant increase of IL-6 and decrease of IL-10 were observed. At PSD 96h adiponectin increased. At 192 h of PSD IL-6 increased significantly again, accompanied by a threefold increase of IL-10 and an increase of serum corticosterone. After 20 days of recovery (192 h PSD+R) corticosterone, IL-6 and TNF levels increased significantly, while IL-10 decreased also significantly. Regarding the miRNAs at 24 h of PSD serum miR-146a, miR-155, miR-223, and miR-16 levels all increased. At 96 h of PSD miR-223 decreased. At 192 h of PSD decreases in miR-16 and miR-126 were observed. After recovery serum miR-21 increased and miR-16 decreased. Conclusion PSD induces a dynamic response likely reflecting the induced cellular stress and manifested as variating hormonal and inflammatory responses. Sleep deprivation disturbed corticosterone, cytokine and miRNA levels in serum related to the duration of sleep deprivation, as short-term PSD produced effects similar to those of an acute inflammatory response and long-term PSD induced long-lasting disturbances of biological mediators

Impacto del incumplimiento de las entregas de productos en el retorno de la inversión

The purpose of this article is focused on analyzing the impact of non-compliance with product deliveries on the return on investment for the company Avántika Colombia S.A.S, located in the city of Barranquilla, by means of the financial indicator known as the Cash Cycle; taking into account the main actors in this supply chain, such as suppliers and customers, as well as the management of the company's financial resources. An investigative structure is proposed based on the following fronts: 1. Data collection (Database of the Dinamic Modular System, company DMS); 2. Data analysis; 3. Calculation of the Cash Cycle. Through the analysis of the results, we seek to be aware of how the level of service negatively impacts the organization from a financial point of view, that is, how it impacts the fact of delivering the merchandise late, measuring the capacity it has the supply chain to turn the investment back into money. In this sense, we can say that a positive cash cycle allows the company to leverage efficiently, that it operates through its own resources and does not increase its indebtedness with third parties, which is given through the timely and correct taking of decisions, achieving higher level of stability and competitiveness compared to other companies in the same sector. This indicator provides us with a managerial vision of how the logistics process is being carried out and thus, seek improvement strategies for it.El objeto del presente artículo se centra en analizar el impacto del incumplimiento de las entregas de productos en el retorno de la inversión para la empresa Avántika Colombia S.A.S, ubicada en la ciudad de Barranquilla, por medio del indicador financiero conocido como Ciclo de Efectivo; teniendo en cuenta los principales actores de esta cadena de abastecimiento, como los proveedores y los clientes, así como también, el manejo de los recursos financieros de la empresa. Se plantea una estructura investigativa a partir de los siguientes frentes: 1. Recopilación de datos (Base de datos del sistema Dinamic Modular System, DMS de la compañía); 2. Análisis de datos; 3. Cálculo del Ciclo de Efectivo. Mediante el análisis de los resultados, se busca estar al tanto de cómo impacta negativamente a la organización el nivel de servicio desde un punto de vista financiero, es decir, cómo impacta el hecho de entregar la mercancía de manera tardía, midiendo la capacidad que tiene la cadena de suministro de convertir lo invertido nuevamente en dinero. En este sentido, podemos decir que un ciclo de efectivo positivo, permite a la empresa apalancarse de manera eficiente, que esta opere por medio de recursos propios y no incremente su endeudamiento con terceros, lo cual, se da mediante la oportuna y correcta toma de decisiones, logrando mayor nivel de estabilidad y competitividad en comparación con las demás empresas del mismo sector. Este indicador, nos brinda una visión gerencial de cómo se está llevando a cabo el proceso logístico y así, buscar estrategias de mejora para el mismo
