The pastoral visit was one of the instruments used by the church to influence the purposes of Trent reforms were. In the current article, we study visits bishops Ramón Gómez Torrijos and Felix Soto Mancera performed at the Metropolitan Seminary of San Aton of Badajoz in the early twentieth century and are reflected in the documentation in the file of the institution.peerReviewe
Comparing the carbon costs and benefits of low-resource solar nowcasting
Solar PV yield nowcasting is used to help anticipate peaks and troughs in
demand to support grid integration. This paper compares multiple low-resource
approaches to nowcasting solar PV yield, using a dataset of UK satellite
imagery and solar PV energy readings over a 1 to 4-hour time range. The paper
also estimates the carbon emissions generated and averted by deploying models,
and finds that even small models that could be deployable in low-resource
settings may have a benefit several orders of magnitude greater than its carbon
cost. The paper also examines prediction errors and the activations in a CNN
Determination of Soluble Sugars in Arabidopsis thaliana Leaves by Anion Exchange Chromatography
Determination of soluble sugars is basic for the study of carbon metabolism in plants. Soluble sugar quantitation can be achieved by enzymatic methods implying different coupled reactions. Here we describe a simple method that allows rapid determination of the most abundant soluble sugars (glucose, fructose and sucrose) in Arabidopsis leaves by anion exchange chromatography. We have applied this method to study the levels of soluble sugars during the photoperiodic transition to flowering (Ortiz-Marchena et al., 2014).España, MINECO projects CSD2007-00057, BIO2008-02292, and BIO2011-28847-C02-00España, Junta de Andalucía P06-CVI-01450 and P08-AGR-0358
How Bees Respond Differently to Field Margins of Shrubby and Herbaceous Plants in Intensive Agricultural Crops of the Mediterranean Area
(1) Intensive agriculture has a high impact on pollinating insects, and conservation strategies targeting agricultural landscapes may greatly contribute to their maintenance. The aim of this work was to quantify the effect that the vegetation of crop margins, with either herbaceous or shrubby plants, had on the abundance and diversity of bees in comparison to non-restored margins. (2) The work was carried out in an area of intensive agriculture in southern Spain. Bees were monitored visually and using pan traps, and floral resources were quantified in crop margins for two years. (3) An increase in the abundance and diversity of wild bees in restored margins was registered, compared to non-restored margins. Significant differences in the structure of bee communities were found between shrubby and herbaceous margins. Apis mellifera and mining bees were found to be more polylectic than wild Apidae and Megachilidae. The abundance of A. mellifera and mining bees was correlated to the total floral resources, in particular, to those offered by the Boraginaceae and Brassicaceae; wild Apidae and Megachilidae were associated with the Lamiaceae. (4) This work emphasises the importance of floral diversity and shrubby plants for the maintenance of rich bee communities in Mediterranean agricultural landscapes
Haemodialysate: Long neglected, difficult to optimize, may modify hard outcomes
In two recent CKJ reviews, experts (Basile and Lomonte and Locatelli et al.) have reviewed haemodialysate composition. A longneglected
issue, observational studies have associated the composition of haemodialysate to adverse outcomes. However, the
scarcity of clinical trial-derived information results in limited guideline recommendations on the issue. Indeed, guidelines have
more frequently indicated what not to do rather than what to do. In this setting, expert opinion becomes invaluable. In
designing haemodialysate composition, a balance should be struck between the need to correct within a time frame of around 4
hours the electrolyte and water imbalances that take 48 to 72 h to build, with the need for gradual correction of these
imbalances. The issue is complicated further by the impact of individual variability in dietary habits, medications and
comorbidities. In this regard, a personalized medicine approach to individualization of haemodialysate composition offers the
best chance of improving patient outcomes. But how can haemodialysate individualization be achieved, and what clinical trial
design will best test the impact of such approaches on patient outcomes?Grant support: ISCIII and FEDER funds PI13/00047, Sociedad

A Spanish Sign Language (LSE) Adaptation of the Communicative Development Inventories
This article presents the adaptation of the MacArthur Communicative Development Inventory (CDI; Fenson et al., 1993, 1994) to Spanish Sign Language (LSE). Data were collected from 55 participants (32 boys and 23 girls; 17 deaf signers, 38 hearing signers) who, evaluated by their caregivers every four months, presented a total of 170 records. The parents reported the signs that the children could understand or produce between 8-36 months. Results suggested that the CDI adapted to LSE is a valid and reliable instrument. Signing children could understand more signs than they produced at this early developmental stage. There were no significant differences between boys and girls, or between deaf and hearing children. The development of LSE is similar to other sign languages, although with a lower production of signs in the early stages, perhaps due to the bilingualism of most of the children of our study.
Projection based ensemble learning for ordinal regression
The classification of patterns into naturally ordered
labels is referred to as ordinal regression. This paper proposes
an ensemble methodology specifically adapted to this type of
problems, which is based on computing different classification
tasks through the formulation of different order hypotheses.
Every single model is trained in order to distinguish between
one given class (k) and all the remaining ones, but grouping
them in those classes with a rank lower than k, and those
with a rank higher than k. Therefore, it can be considered as
a reformulation of the well-known one-versus-all scheme. The
base algorithm for the ensemble could be any threshold (or
even probabilistic) method, such as the ones selected in this
paper: kernel discriminant analysis, support vector machines
and logistic regression (all reformulated to deal with ordinal
regression problems). The method is seen to be competitive when
compared with other state-of-the-art methodologies (both ordinal
and nominal), by using six measures and a total of fifteen ordinal
datasets. Furthermore, an additional set of experiments is used to
study the potential scalability and interpretability of the proposed
method when using logistic regression as base methodology for
the ensemble
Purification of Starch Granules from Arabidopsis Leaves and Determination of Granule-Bound Starch Synthase Activity
Starch constitutes the most important carbon reserve in plants and is composed of branched amylopectin and linear amylose. The latter is synthesized exclusively by the Granule-Bound Starch Synthase (GBSS, EC 2.4.1.21). Here we report a readily reproducible, specific and highly sensitive protocol, which includes the isolation of intact starch granules from Arabidopsis thaliana leaves and the subsequent determination of GBSS activity. We have applied this method to study GBSS activity in diurnal cycles in vegetative growth and during the photoperiodic transition to flowering in Arabidopsis (Tenorio et al., 2003; Ortiz-Marchena et al., 2014).España,MINECO CSD2007-00057, BIO2008-02292, and BIO2011-28847-C02-00España, Junta de Andalucía P06-CVI-01450 and P08-AGR-0358
