Membrane Fission: A Computational Complexity Perspective
Membrane fission is a process by which a biological membrane is split into two new ones in the manner
that the content of the initial membrane is separated and distributed between the new membranes. Inspired by this
biological phenomenon, membrane separation rules were considered in membrane computing. In this work, we
investigate cell-like P systems with symport/antiport rules and membrane separation rules from a computational
complexity perspective. Specifically, we establish a limit on the efficiency of such P systems which use communication
rules of length at most two, and we prove the computational efficiency of this kind of models when using
communication rules of length at most three. Hence, a sharp borderline between tractability and NP–hardness
is provided in terms of the length of communication rules.Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad TIN2012-3743
The organizational design of nonprofits for people with disabilities
We use data obtained from managers of 105 small nonprofit organizations (NPOs) providing services to people
with disabilities in Spain in 2007 to examine how organizational design—particularly, extrinsic and intrinsic
reward systems—impacts delegation, motivation, and knowledge transfer to achieve the NPO’s goal to improve
the lives of persons living with disabilities. We find that, due to lack of technical knowledge, managers of these
NPOs must delegate decision rights to qualified employees and that they successfully use a higher degree of
intrinsic and extrinsic rewards to motivate employees to transfer knowledge among themselves efficiently
Broken planar Skyrmions — statics and dynamics.
The broken planar Skyrme model is a theory that breaks global O (3) symmetry to the dihedral group D N . It has been shown that the single soliton solution is formed of N constituent parts, named partons, that are topologically confined. The multisoliton solutions have already been computed for N = 3 and were shown to be related to polyiamonds. We extend this for larger N and demonstrate that this polyform structure continues (planar figures formed by regular N -gons joined along their edges, of which polyiamonds are the N = 3 subset). Furthermore, we numerically simulate the dynamics of this model for the first time. It will be demonstrated that the time dependent behaviour of these solutions can be broken down into the interactions of its constituent partons, with certain collisions exhibiting parton exchange. The results are then compared with those of the standard planar Skyrme model
