Towards Formal Interaction-Based Models of Grid Computing Infrastructures

Grid computing (GC) systems are large-scale virtual machines, built upon a massive pool of resources (processing time, storage, software) that often span multiple distributed domains. Concurrent users interact with the grid by adding new tasks; the grid is expected to assign resources to tasks in a fair, trustworthy way. These distinctive features of GC systems make their specification and verification a challenging issue. Although prior works have proposed formal approaches to the specification of GC systems, a precise account of the interaction model which underlies resource sharing has not been yet proposed. In this paper, we describe ongoing work aimed at filling in this gap. Our approach relies on (higher-order) process calculi: these core languages for concurrency offer a compositional framework in which GC systems can be precisely described and potentially reasoned about.Comment: In Proceedings DCM 2013, arXiv:1403.768

Introduction: within the tumors of small, round, blue cells are a heterogeneous range of neoplasm in which immunohistochemical or other special techniques are imperative to be able to differentiate, or in many cases, only by exclusion approaching the possible histogenesis of the tumor in any case, these tumors are all highly undifferentiated, aggressive and almost always of a gloomy or very poor prognosis. Case Report:  a 44-year-old male patient, with pathological history of acute lymphoblastic leukemia, with a complete remission of 10 year-evolution, who was assessed by presenting pain in the left lumbar region. A case study was performed and ultrasound revealed the presence of a retroperitoneal tumor. Surgery was decided on by exploratory laparotomy, and surgical excision of the tumor was performed. The patient recovery was satisfactory from the surgical procedure, however, the tumor recurred in a period of 1 month and the treatment with radiotherapy and cytostatics started with an unfavorable prognosis. Conclusions: the definitive diagnosis was performed by immunohistochemical study, resulting in a peripheral neuroectodermal tumor. The definitive diagnosis is made by the immunohistochemical study, the result being a peripheral neuroectodermal tumor or Ewing's sarcoma. Given that it is a rare diagnosis in adults after the second decade of life and often confused with other tumors, such as melanomas or carcinomas, the case is reported

Catalytic production of jet fuels from biomass

Concerns about depleting fossil fuels and global warming e ects are pushing our society to search for new renewable sources of energy with the potential to substitute coal, natural gas, and petroleum. In this sense, biomass, the only renewable source of carbon available on Earth, is the perfect replacement for petroleum in producing renewable fuels. The aviation sector is responsible for a significant fraction of greenhouse gas emissions, and two billion barrels of petroleum are being consumed annually to produce the jet fuels required to transport people and goods around the world. Governments are pushing directives to replace fossil fuel-derived jet fuels with those derived from biomass. The present mini review is aimed to summarize the main technologies available today for converting biomass into liquid hydrocarbon fuels with a molecular weight and structure suitable for being used as aviation fuels. Particular emphasis will be placed on those routes involving heterogeneous catalysts

A model-driven engineering process for autonomic sensor-actuator networks

Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) are the next generation of embedded ICT systems designed to be aware of the physical environment by using sensor-actuator networks to provide users with a wide range of smart applications and services. Many of these smart applications are possible due to the incorporation of autonomic control loops that implement advanced processing and analysis of historical and real-time data measured by sensors; plan actions according to a set of goals or policies; and execute plans through actuators. The complexity of this kind of systems requires mechanisms that can assist the system?s design and development. This paper presents a solution for assisting the design and development of CPS based on Model-Driven Development: MindCPS (doMaIN moDel for CPS) solution. MindCPS solution is based on a model that provides modelling primitives for explicitly specifying the autonomic behaviour of CPS and model transformations for automatically generating part of the CPS code. In addition to the automatic code generation, the MindCPS solution offers the possibility of rapidly configuring and developing the core behaviour of a CPS, even for nonsoftware engineers. The MindCPS solution has been put into practice to deploy a smart metering system in a demonstrator located at the Technical University of Madrid
