Presencia y edad de vulcaniras en el Jurásico del Norte de Valencia (Cordillera Ibérica, España)

    Get PDF
Peer reviewe

Performance Study of Software AER-Based Convolutions on a Parallel Supercomputer

    Get PDF
This paper is based on the simulation of a convolution model for bioinspired neuromorphic systems using the Address-Event-Representation (AER) philosophy and implemented in the supercomputer CRS of the University of Cadiz (UCA). In this work we improve the runtime of the simulation, by dividing an image into smaller parts before AER convolution and running each operation in a node of the cluster. This research involves a test cases design in which the optimal parameters are set to run the AER convolution in parallel processors. These cases consist on running the convolution taking an image divided in different number of parts, applying to each part a Sobel filter for edge detection, and based on the AER-TOOL simulator. Execution times are compared for all cases and the optimal configuration of the system is discussed. In general, CRS obtain better performances when the image is divided than for the whole image.Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación TEC2009-10639-C04-0

Expression and immunohistochemical localization of leptin in human periapical granulomas

    Get PDF
Background: Leptin, initially described as an adipocyte-derived hormone to regulate weight control, is expressed in normal and inflamed human dental pulp, being up-regulated during pulp experimental inflammation. Leptin receptor (LER) has been identified in human periapical granulomas. The aim of this study was to analyze and characterize the expression of leptin in human periapical granulomas. Material and Methods: Fifteen periapical inflammatory lesions were obtained from extracted human teeth and teeth which underwent periapical surgery. After their morphological categorization as periapical granulomas and gradation of the inflammatory infiltrate, they were examined by immunohistochemistry using human leptin policlonal antibodies. Leptin mRNA expression was also determined by quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) and the amount of leptin protein was analyzed by immunoblot. Results: All periapical lesions exhibited the characteristic of chronic granulomatous inflammatory process with inflammatory infiltrate grade III. Leptin+ cells were detected in 13 periapical granulomas (86.6%). The median number of Leptin+ cells in periapical granulomas was 1.70 (0.00-7.4). Amongst the inflammatory cells in the periapical granulomas, only macrophages were reactive to leptin antibodies. Western blot analysis revealed the presence in all samples of a protein with apparent molecular weight of approximately 16 kDa, corresponding to the estimated molecular weights of leptin. The expression of leptin mRNA was confirmed by qRT-PCR analysis and the size of the amplified fragment (296 bp for leptin and 194 bp for cyclophilin) was assessed by agarose gel electrophoresis. Conclusions: For the first time, it has been demonstrated that human periapical granuloma expresses the adipokine leptin

Construcción de un reloj de sol

    Get PDF

Scaling corrections: site percolation and Ising model in three dimensions

    Get PDF
Using Finite-Size Scaling techniques we obtain accurate results for critical quantities of the Ising model and the site percolation, in three dimensions. We pay special attention in parameterizing the corrections-to-scaling, what is necessary to put the systematic errors below the statistical ones

Monte Carlo determination of the phase diagram of the double-exchange model

    Get PDF
We study the phase diagram of the double exchange model, with antiferromagnetic interactions, in a cubic lattice both at zero and finite temperature. There is a rich variety of magnetic phases, combined with regions where phase separation takes place. We identify phases, intrinsic to the cubic lattice, which are stable for realistic values of the interactions and dopings. Some of these phases break chiral symmetry, leading to unusual features

Universal critical behavior of the two-dimensional Ising spin glass

    Get PDF
We use finite size scaling to study Ising spin glasses in two spatial dimensions. The issue of universality is addressed by comparing discrete and continuous probability distributions for the quenched random couplings. The sophisticated temperature dependency of the scaling fields is identified as the major obstacle that has impeded a complete analysis. Once temperature is relinquished in favor of the correlation length as the basic variable, we obtain a reliable estimation of the anomalous dimension and of the thermal critical exponent. Universality among binary and Gaussian couplings is confirmed to a high numerical accuracy

Mechanistic modelling to address process analysis: Kibbles of carob (Ceratonia siliqua, L.) pod extraction

[EN] The daily challenge involved in operating a process is the attainment of the objectives. Process management requires the use of tools adapted to the system s complexity. In order to obtain real time results, simplified mechanistic modeling offers a way to deal with this. To this end, carob pod (Ceratonia siliqua, L.) kibbles extraction is addressed in this work. They are a source of different, valuable components and have a complex structure and a highly variable concentration of components. The components considered are sugars and soluble polyphenols. Obtaining the extracts with an optimal composition of a particular component, while avoiding or limiting other components in the extract, is a challenge to be addressed. Two steps can be considered: solubilization and diffusion, modeled by means of a first order reaction and by considering slab geometry. The optimal processing time and temperature are obtained by taking a particular kibble size and composition into accountThe support from Generalitat Valenciana PROMETEO/2014/005 is acknowledged.Mulet Pons, A.; Fernández-Salguero, J.; García Pérez, JV.; Bon Corbín, J.
