    Get PDF

Worst Case Execution Time Analysis for Modern Hardware Architectures

    Get PDF
Knowing the worst case execution times #WCETs# for programs are crucial for the design and veri#cation of real-time systems. Modern hardware architectures utilize pipelinedexecution and cache memory for improved performance. We extend an existing execution time analysis technique, the Implicit Path Enumeration Technique #IPET#, to consider these and other modern hardwarearchitecturefeatures. We extend IPET in two stages. First, we annotate the control #ow graph of the program with variables representing the history of execution, thus allowing the state of architectural entities, such as cache and pipeline, to be determined before each basic block. Secondly, we model the architectural entities with constraints. The result is an equation which contains a complete model of how the program will execute on the modeled architecture. This novel idea provides a straightforward and #exible way of incorporating the behavior of various modern hardwarearchitecturefeatures into WCET analysis

THE COST, THE MODEL AND THE LOGISTICS ~ A Cost Measurement System at Volvo Logistics Corporation

    Get PDF
The changing prerequisites in the business environment today, forces companies to focus increasingly on inbound and outbound flows of goods and services in a cost-effective manner. The information concerning the financial resources plays an important role since it is used to plan, evaluate and control the daily businesses processes. This research project deals with modelling methodology, concerning conceptual model building. The model created is a cost measurement system of logistics services, at Volvo Logistics Corporation Inbound division (VLCI). The creation of the model is based on the Activity Based Costing concept and has taken place parallel with knowledge building of VLCI and their processes. The model itself has been created using spreadsheet software. The model is adaptive and can easily be adjusted to organisational changes. An Activity Based Costing system enables allocation of costs to processes and cost objects that consume organisational resources. The model can identify where and how resources and cost are consumed both at process and cost object level. Further the model can be used to obtain financial information that has the potential to benefit VLCI in their managerial decisions concerning, e.g. pricing and evaluation of customers and logistics solutions

A Comparison of CP, IP and Hybrids for Configuration Problems

    Get PDF
We investigate different solution techniques for solving a basic part of configuration problems, namely linear arithmetic constraints over integer variables. Approaches include integer programming, constraint programming over finite domains and hybrid techniques. We also discuss important extensions of the basic problem and how these can be accommodated in the different solution approaches

CTC-ask: a new algorithm for conversion of CT numbers to tissue parameters for Monte Carlo dose calculations applying DICOM RS knowledge

    Get PDF
One of the building blocks in Monte Carlo (MC) treatment planning is to convert patient CT data to MC compatible phantoms, consisting of density and media matrices. The resulting dose distribution is highly influenced by the accuracy of the conversion. Two major contributing factors are precise conversion of CT number to density and proper differentiation between air and lung. Existing tools do not address this issue specifically. Moreover, their density conversion may depend on the number of media used. Differentiation between air and lung is an important task in MC treatment planning and misassignment may lead to local dose errors on the order of 10%. A novel algorithm, CTC-ask, is presented in this study. It enables locally confined constraints for the media assignment and is independent of the number of media used for the conversion of CT number to density. MC compatible phantoms were generated for two clinical cases using a CT-conversion scheme implemented in both CTC-ask and the DICOM-RT toolbox. Full MC dose calculation was subsequently conducted and the resulting dose distributions were compared. The DICOM-RT toolbox inaccurately assigned lung in 9.9% and 12.2% of the voxels located outside of the lungs for the two cases studied, respectively. This was completely avoided by CTC-ask. CTC-ask is able to reduce anatomically irrational media assignment. The CTC-ask source code can be made available upon request to the authors

Striatal plasticity in L-DOPA- and graft-induced dyskinesia:the common link?

    Get PDF
One of the major symptoms of the neurodegenerative condition Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a slowness or loss of voluntary movement, yet frustratingly therapeutic strategies designed to restore movement can result in the development of excessive abnormal movements known as dyskinesia. These dyskinesias commonly develop as a result of pharmacotherapy in the form of L-DOPA administration, but have also been identified following deep brain stimulation (DBS) and intrastriatal cell transplantation. In the case of L-DOPA these movements can be treatment limiting, and whilst they are not long lasting or troubling following DBS, recognition of their development had a near devastating effect on the field of cell transplantation for PD.Understanding the relationship between these therapeutic approaches and the development of dyskinesia may improve our ability to restore function without disabling side effects. Interestingly, despite the fact that dopaminergic cell transplantation repairs many of the changes induced by the disease process and through L-DOPA treatment, there appears to be a relationship between the two. In rodent models of the disease, the severity of dyskinesia induced by L-DOPA prior to the transplantation procedure correlated with post-transplantation, graft-induced dyskinesia. A review of clinical data also suggested that the worse preoperational dyskinesia causes worsened graft-induced dyskinesia (GID). Understanding how these aberrant behaviors come about has been of keen interest to open up these therapeutic options more widely and one major underlying theory is the effects of these approaches on the plasticity of synapses within the basal ganglia. This review uniquely brings together developments in understanding the role of striatal synaptic plasticity in both L-DOPA and GID to guide and stimulate further investigations on the important striatal plasticity

An Efficient Signaling for Multi-mode Transmission in Multi-user MIMO

    Get PDF
In this paper the downlink of a multi-user MIMO (MUMIMO) system with multi-mode transmission is considered. We propose a low-complexity algorithm for selecting users and the corresponding number of data streams to each user, denoted as user transmission mode (UTM). The selection is only based on the average received signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) from the base station (BS) for each user. This reduces the overall amount of feedback for scheduling, as opposed to techniques that assume perfect instantaneous channel state information (CSI) from all users. Analytical average throughput approximations are derived for each user at different UTMs. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm provides performance close to dirty paper coding (DPC) with considerably reduced feedback
