The advancement of technology in the past decade has led humans to achieve many great things. Among that is facial recognition technology that uses a combination of two techniques which is face detection and recognition that is capable of converting facial images of a person into readable data and connecting it with other data sets which enable it to identify, track or compare it. This study delves into the usage of facial recognition technology in Malaysia where its regulation is almost non-existent. As its usage increases, the invasive features of this technology to collect and connect its data posed a threat to the data privacy of Malaysian citizens. Due to this issue, other countries' laws and policies regarding this technology are examined and compared with Malaysia. This enables the loopholes of the current law and policies to be identified and restructured, which create a clear path on the proper regulations and changes that need to be made. Thus, this study aims to analyse the limitation of law governing data privacy and its concept in Malaysia along with changes that need to be made. This study’s finding shows the shortcoming of Malaysia’s law in governing data privacy especially when it involves complex technology that has great data collection capability like facial recognition

Are the Normative Values of Sensorineural Acuity Level (SAL) Test Affected by Head Circumferences of Subjects?

    Get PDF
Introduction: Sensorineural acuity level (SAL) test is believed to be helpful in estimating bone conduction thresholds in masking dilemma cases. However, before the SAL normative data can be used in clinical settings, there is a need to study the fundamental variable related to SAL normative data such as head circumference. As such, the purpose of the current study was to compare SAL normative values between subjects with bigger and smaller head circumferences at different frequencies. Materials and Methods: In this study, 48 healthy Malaysian adult subjects (aged between 18 and 50 years) were enrolled. Pure tone audiometry (PTA) and SAL test were subsequently conducted based on the recommended protocols. The SAL normative values were then compared between subjects with bigger and smaller head circumferences. Data analysis methods included paired t-test, effect size, and Bayesian approach. Results: No significant differences were noted in the SAL results when the two groups were compared, implying that the SAL normative data were not influenced by the head circumference (p > 0.05, BF10 = 0.232-0.708). Conclusions: Based on the findings of this study it appears that the SAL test results are not affected by the head sizes of the subjects. Future SAL test studies may use the normative SAL values established in the current study as a guide

Nowadays, water pollution is a serious threat not only to the environment and ecology but also effect the human as well. Before this, detecting and monitoring water only conduct manually by bringing sample from the river or sea to the lab. This project proposes a wireless water pollution monitoring system. Furthermore, this system are purposed to the staff of Jabatan Alam Sekitar to monitor the river more efficiently and reduces the workload during monitoring. This system integrated with sensors design to monitor the quality and pollution on the water. This system uses Arduino R3 to support and generate the sensors. The sensor use for this project is Ph sensor, Turbidity sensor and Flow sensor. The GSM devices acts as a connection between sensor and web application. This system also will pass all the information gather from the sensor to the web application via internet. The staff can monitor the river using the web application that will show the result of the water quality. Others, the system also provide an action taken to reduces the pollution base on the result of the water quality. Staff also can view data collected in form of graph by the system to use it to do analysis for future event. The methodology chosen for this project is Waterfall model which is well defined methodology and precise. In developing Wireless Water Pollution Monitoring system, Notepad++ and Arduino Software (IDE) are used to develop the interface and function that meet the requirement. In the end of this project, it is expected that the WWPMS meet the user requirement. Therefore, this application can give a convenient way to monitor the polluted river

This study aimed to identify the risk factors of relapse among drug addicts who were repeatedly admitted to the Narcotics Recovery and Addiction Centre (PUSPEN). This qualitative study utilized an interview method to gain a deeper understanding of the factors that contribute to the relapse phenomenon. The study sample comprised of seven relapsed drug addicts who were admitted to the centre more than once. The interview sessions were conducted at two PUSPEN centers in the east coast of Malaysia, which are PUSPEN Jeli and Bachok. These centers cater for both male and female drug addicts. The current study found that the risk factors of relapse among the drug addicts are internal factors. The themes that emerged in these risk factors include lack of willpower, boredom, frustration, lack of religious knowledge and practices, anger, and resentment. Apart from that, other risk factors are such as lack of family support, income factor (scarce income and surplus income), the influence from old friends, rejection from the community, social media influence, and no place to go after being released are also contributing factors to the reoccurrence of relapse. The findings of this study provide practical implications for the drug treatment and rehabilitation in Malaysia
