Mobile resource management for better user experience: an audio case study
Ubiquitous environment's research has evolved
considerably over the last years. The wide
range of mobile devices, their high diversity and mobility have raised a variety of challenges being resource management a predominant, and therefore attracting special
attention in the research community. The
Composable-Adaptive Resource Management
(CARM) middleware library provides a exi-
ble infrastructure where personal devices create seamlessly on-demand interconnections
links to share ubiquitous resources. In this paper we present a CARM interesting use case,
consisting of an improved audio listening experience by sharing a high quality audio resource. A proof-of-concept implementation
is provided, and a testbed comprised of two
CARM enabled mobile phones with Bluetooth
connectivity making use of remote device's
audio resource is described. Our approach
demonstrates the importance and usability of
enhancing the dynamic resource sharing experience without altering the bandwidth efficiency.Peer ReviewedPostprint (author’s final draft
HuNavSim: A ROS 2 Human Navigation Simulator for Benchmarking Human-Aware Robot Navigation
This work presents the Human Navigation Simulator (HuNavSim), a novel
open-source tool for the simulation of different human-agent navigation
behaviors in scenarios with mobile robots. The tool, the first programmed under
the ROS 2 framework, can be employed along with different well-known robotics
simulators like Gazebo. The main goal is to ease the development and evaluation
of human-aware robot navigation systems in simulation. Besides a general
human-navigation model, HuNavSim includes, as a novelty, a rich set of
individual and realistic human navigation behaviors and a complete set of
metrics for social navigation benchmarking.Comment: Pre-print version of the paper submitted to the RA-L Journa
Tu no, pero tú sí. Y cómo el sector gastronómico incrementó sus ventas durante la emergencia sanitaria por la COVID-19 en la Ciudad de Xalapa, Veracruz.
Faced with the health contingency due to the COVID-19 outbreak in the world, in the City of Xalapa, Veracruz, the actions to take care of everyone included the closure of companies in the gastronomic sector, leaving the service only to take away. This great challenge is also an opportunity for the sector, which grows daily in both suppliers and demanders. Each restaurant must analyze its financial projects and its business plan to give the best service to the diner and stay in time. Use this reflection document to analyze the importance of finances in companies in the gastronomic sector and the work of its commercial manager.Ante la contingencia sanitaria por el brote de COVID-19 en el mundo, en la Ciudad de Xalapa, Veracruz, las acciones para cuidar a todos incluyeron el cierre de empresas del sector gastronómico dejando el servicio sólo para llevar. Understanding the disorder of the DNA base cytosine on the Au(111) surface
Using ultrahigh vacuum scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and ab initio density functional theory, we have investigated in detail structures formed by cytosine on the Au(111) surface in clean ultrahigh vacuum conditions. In spite of the fact that the ground state of this DNA base on the surface is shown to be an ordered arrangement of cytosine one-dimensional branches (filaments), this structure has never been observed in our STM experiments. Instead, disordered structures are observed, which can be explained by only a few elementary structural motifs: filaments, five- and sixfold rings, which randomly interconnect with each other forming bent chains, T junctions, and nanocages. The latter may have trapped smaller structures inside. The formation of such an unusual assembly is explained by simple kinetic arguments as a liquid-glass transition. © 2008 American Institute of Physics
An STM study of molecular exchange processes in organic thin film growth
The growth of a fullerene derivative (PCBM) on top of a layer of a tetrathiafulvalene (TTF) derivative previously deposited on Au(111) has been studied by scanning tunneling microscopy (STM). The results show that the preferential interaction with the gold substrate induces the exchange of PCBM molecules with the exTTF monolayer, expelling exTTF molecules to the outer surface. This exchange process is forbidden when the thickness of the exTTF layer increases above the monolayer, and the larger surface energy of PCBM leads to the growth of 3D islandsOur work was supported by the MICINN of Spain (FIS2010-18847, FIS2012-33011), Comunidad de Madrid (NanobiomagnetS2009/MAT-1726), CONSOLIDER-INGENIO on Molecular Nanoscience (CSD2007-00010) and European Union (SMALL PITN-GA-

norma flexible y voluntaria
Stator inter-turn faults diagnosis in induction motors using zero-sequence signal injection
This study presents a strategy for stator inter-turn faults diagnosis in induction motors (IMs) operating under timevariable load and time-variable speed conditions. The strategy consists in injecting a zero-sequence high-frequency signal in order to analyse variations in the stator inductances. Incipient stator inter-turn faults are detected by a simple signal processing of the derivatives of the currents. A feature of the strategy is that the zero-sequence high-frequency signal is generated by the inverter that feeds the machine, without modifying the standard space vector modulation of the IM-drive. Experimental results show that faults representing <1% of the stator winding can be detected, as well as the phase location of the fault, validating this proposal.Fil: Otero, Marcial. Morphology and Material Composition of the Mouthparts of Stromatium unicolor Olivier 1795 (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae) for Bionic Application
The novelty of this study is the deep analysis of the morphologic, geometric and mechanical performance of longhorn beetle larvae mouthparts. Furthermore, a metal nano identification of jaw reinforced parts was made. Background and Objectives: Analysis of insect mechanical properties has shown an important application in the develop of bionic technologies such as new materials, industrial machines and structural concepts. This study aims to determine the mechanical and geometric properties of longhorn beetle (Stromatium unicolor Olivier 1795) larvae mouthparts to improve the development of innovative cutting tools. In addition, this study obtains a nano identification of metals in the cuticle of the mouthparts, which will enable the development of new nontoxic and sustainable preservation agents against xylophagous insects based on nanoparticles. Materials and Methods: five third-larval-stage samples of Stromatium unicolor were used to study its mandible morphologic, geometric and mechanical properties. To this end, mouthparts were analyzed by several microscopic techniques using a scanning electron microscope, a stereomicroscope and an optical microscope. Composition analysis was performed using with two Analytical-Inca X-ray detectors, dispersive energy spectroscopy and dispersive wavelength spectroscopy. Results: The main geometric parameters of the insect jaw are the edge angle (β = 77.3°), maximum path depth of the insect (120 μm), length (800 µm) and mouthpart movement, which were identified and measured. The chemical analysis results of the jaw tissues shows the presence of zinc and manganese. Conclusions: The geometry and angles of the mouthparts can be applied in the fabrication of bionic self-sharpening cutting tools. Molecular compounds that form the reinforcing elements in the jaws can be used to develop wood preservatives based on nanometals and metal absorption and metabolism inhibitor
