Characterizing the health status of the Louisiana gopher tortoise (Gopherus polyphemus)

Gopher tortoise (Gopherus polyphemus) populations have experienced precipitous declines from habitat loss, and human and disease related mortality. The goal of this study was to characterize the health status of free-ranging Louisiana gopher tortoises. Gopher tortoises were collected during two distinct trapping seasons: fall (August-October 2002) and spring (April-June 2003). Captured tortoises were given a physical exam and the carapace and plastron length and width, weight, and body temperature were recorded. Blood was collected from the subcarapacial vein and submitted for the following testing procedures: complete blood count, plasma chemistry, infectious disease serology (Mycoplasma), and toxicologic screen (copper, mercury, zinc, and lead). Fifty-nine tortoises were captured during the study. Fifty-seven (97%) of the tortoises were adult animals and two (3%) were juveniles. Twenty (34%) of the tortoises were captured in the fall and thirty nine (66%) were captured in the spring. There were thirty male (53%) and twenty-seven female (47%) tortoises captured between the two trapping periods. The gender of the hatchling tortoises could not be determined. Complete blood counts, plasma biochemistry analyses and toxin screens were performed on fifty seven adult tortoises. There were several differences detected in the white blood cell count between trapping season. The white blood cell count and heterophil count were significantly higher in the spring compared to the fall. Significant gender differences were observed for potassium, calcium, and phosphorus. Marked seasonal variation was observed with glucose, uric acid, and GGT. Only creatinine kinase levels differed significantly between sites. There was a difference in the mercury and copper levels between gender. Only copper differed significantly between season. Overall, 26% of the tortoises were serologically suspect or positive for Mycoplasma agassizii. There was no difference in parasite shedding between gender, site of capture, or season. The parasites identified in these tortoises were consistent with findings in gopher tortoises throughout their range. In general, our findings suggest that these tortoises are in good health

Hidden in Plain Sight: Health Discrimination & Avoidance Among the SGM Population

Despite the advancements the American health care system has made to increase access, there still remains the prominent issue of healthcare avoidance. Specifically, the sexual and gender minority (SGM) population remains incredibly vulnerable. This is due to the stigma that those who are not visibly or socially presenting themselves as gender confirming or hetero-normative; they may be denied access to healthcare or may face discrimination in pursuit of proper health care. Current research aims at identifying potential deterrents to receiving health care amongst an emerging and increasing population. Data was collected through an online-survey and distributed through Reddit threads in which participants could respond anonymously to questions regarding SGM issues, but more specifically healthcare avoidance and fear of discrimination. A total of 1316 respondents composed the sample size in this SGM study. Measured variables in this study included: age, education, income, gender, sex assigned at birth, partner status, race, ACES score, and overall healthcare avoidance. Within this study, it was found that ACE scores, gender minority status, income, and fear of discrimination were positively correlated. The results were statistically significant (p \u3c 0.005). The dilemma of health care avoidance among the SGM population is not only evident in research, but also in practice. This community faces some of the highest rates of discrimination inherently and is one of the groups with the largest needs for timely and efficient health care regardless of their sexual preferences or gender expression. It is a primary objective of health care to help those in need, and that includes those who may not be visually conforming or fall within heteronormativity. Further research should be conducted to be more representative of the population, as well as help in reducing further discrimination or fear of discrimination in clinical settings

Ultrastructural Alterations of Golgi Apparatus in the Nerve Cells of Cerebral Cortex in Human Hydrocephalus. A Qualitative Study Using Cortical Biopsies

Cortical biopsies of 17 patients with clinical diagnosis of hydrocephalus and associated pathology were examined in the transmission electron microscope. Moderately and severely edematous neurons showed relevant structural changes of the Golgi apparatus consisting of either discrete or marked dilation, fragmentation, and partial disappearance of Golgi stacked cisternae. In Arnold-Chiari malformation small Golgi complexes of vesicular type and atrophic changes were observed in severely edematous neurons. The microtubules appeared intact, suggesting differential response between Golgi complex and microtubules. Atrophic changes of the Golgi complex coexisted with degenerated presynaptic endings

La presente investigación titulada “Inteligencia emocional, motivación intrínseca y satisfacción laboral en docentes de Instituciones Educativas de la Red 16, UGEL 02 Rímac, 2021”, tuvo como objetivo determinar la incidencia de la inteligencia emocional y la motivación intrínseca en la satisfacción laboral en docentes de Instituciones Educativas de la Red 16, UGEL 02 Rímac, 2021. El estudio es básico, con un diseño no experimental, transaccional, correlacional causal. La muestra fue de 103 docentes de las Instituciones Educativas antes mencionadas. Para la medición de las variables estudiadas se utilizaron tres cuestionarios respectivamente validados y aplicados a los docentes de la muestra investigada. Se utilizó el enfoque cuantitativo y el método hipotético deductivo. De acuerdo a la naturaleza de las variables de estudio, se empleó el estadístico de regresión logística ordinal, bajo el cual se hizo la contrastación de las hipótesis. En conclusión, se afirma que la inteligencia emocional y la motivación intrínseca inciden positivamente en la satisfacción laboral (X2 = 96,920, sig =,000); donde el R2 de Nagelkerke confirma que la eficacia predictiva de la probabilidad de ocurrencia de las categorías de la variable dependiente es de 0,928

Modelo de gestion empresarial para mejorar la calidad de los servicios de la empresa de transporte Huacho Carquin S.A. año 2019

El presente trabajo de investigación; él estudió contó trascedentemente con el propósito de vincular la gestión empresarial y la calidad de los servicios de la empresa de transporte Huacho Carquín S.A., 2019; en el cual el nivel investigativo fue descriptivo correlacional y el diseño no experimental. La figura 1muestral la constituyeron 138 individuos y 20 colaboradores de la empresa; en el cual se empleó como técnica para recoger información a la encuesta. Los resultados obtenidos fuero n el hallazgo de vinculación entre la planificación y calidad de servicios con un coeficiente de correlación de 0.679; se encontró relación con la organización y calidad de servicios con un coeficiente de correlación de 0.688; existe relación entre la dirección calidad de servicios con un coeficiente de correlación de 0.703, finalmente se encontró relación entre el control y la calidad de servicios con un coeficiente de correlación de 0.616. Por último, la investigación concluyó que hay una relación significativa entre la variable gestión empresarial y la variable calidad de servicios porque se obtuvo un coeficiente de correlación de 0.695 con riesgo de error 5 del 0%. En la exploración del estudio se elaboró la sugerencia de un plan de gestión empresarial para mejorar la calidad de servicios de la empresa Huacho Carquín S.A

Cuantificación del daño moral en los procesos de responsabilidad civil en el juzgado civil de la ciudad de Moyobamba 2022

A través del desarrollo del trabajo de investigación se puede evidenciar que el mismo tuvo como principal objetivo el demostrar la forma mediante la cual se realiza la cuantificación del daño moral en los procesos de responsabilidad civil en el Juzgado civil de la ciudad de Moyobamba en el Periodo 2015 – 2020; pues bajo esa ilación se desarrolló una investigación del tipo aplicada, siguiendo un diseño no experimental; bajo esa tesitura la técnica que se empleó fue el análisis documental a través de nuestro instrumento bien llamado “guía de recolección de datos”, ello teniendo en cuenta la población escogida, pues fueron 68 expedientes referentes a los procesos de indemnización que se tramitaron en el juzgado civil de la ciudad de Moyobamba de los cuales se escogió una muestra de 34 expedientes de manera aleatoria; a través de la prueba estadística entre las variables erigidas en la presente investigación siendo la "Cuantificación del daño moral" y "Responsabilidad civil", en concordancia con la Correlación de Pearson aplicada para la investigación, es que se obtiene un coeficiente de 0,850 con una Sig. (Bilateral) de 0,000 < 0,05, por lo que cabe decir que existe una relación positiva de tipo alta
