Rules and Strategies Implementation of RedBot Competition
Tato práce se zabývá vytvořením zadání programovací soutěže RedBot. Jedná se o soutěž pro studentské týmy, pořádanou společností RedHat. Práce popisuje postup tvorby zadání soutěže a implementaci vyhodnocovacího serveru, který bude sloužit k vyhodnocení soutěže. Tato práce se dále zabývá implementací vizualizační utility k zobrazení průběhu hry a implementací obslužných rutin, které mohou soutěžící využít pro rychlejší tvorbu strategií.The bachelor thesis deals with creating rules of RedBot programming competition. This competition is organized by RedHat company and is designed for students' teams. The objective of thesis is to describe process of making competition rules and implementation of evaluation server for assessing results of the competition. The other objective is to implement visualization utility for view of the game and implementation of basic routine which is useful for faster strategy creation.
Statistical and systematical errors in analyses of separate experimental data sets in high energy physics
Different ways of extracting parameters of interest from combined data sets
of separate experiments are investigated accounting for the systematic errors.
It is shown, that the frequentist approach may yield larger values
when compared to the Bayesian approach, where the systematic errors have a
Gaussian distributed prior calculated in quadrature. The former leads to a
better estimation of the parameters. A maximum-likelihood method, applied to
different "gedanken" and real LHC data, is presented. The results allow to
choose an optimal approach for obtaining the fit based model parameters.Comment: 24 pages, 1 figur
Luminosity monitors at the LHC
We study the theoretical accuracy of various methods that have been proposed
to measure the luminosity of the LHC pp collider, as well as for Run II of the
Tevatron p barp collider. In particular we consider methods based on
(i) the total and forward elastic data, (ii) lepton-pair production and (iii)

Multivariate Techniques for Identifying Diffractive Interactions at the LHC
31 pages, 14 figures, 11 tablesClose to one half of the LHC events are expected to be due to elastic or inelastic diffractive scattering. Still, predictions based on extrapolations of experimental data at lower energies differ by large factors in estimating the relative rate of diffractive event categories at the LHC energies. By identifying diffractive events, detailed studies on proton structure can be carried out. The combined forward physics objects: rapidity gaps, forward multiplicity and transverse energy flows can be used to efficiently classify proton-proton collisions. Data samples recorded by the forward detectors, with a simple extension, will allow first estimates of the single diffractive (SD), double diffractive (DD), central diffractive (CD), and non-diffractive (ND) cross sections. The approach, which uses the measurement of inelastic activity in forward and central detector systems, is complementary to the detection and measurement of leading beam-like protons. In this investigation, three different multivariate analysis approaches are assessed in classifying forward physics processes at the LHC. It is shown that with gene expression programming, neural networks and support vector machines, diffraction can be efficiently identified within a large sample of simulated proton-proton scattering events. The event characteristics are visualized by using the self-organizing map algorithm.Peer reviewe

Fragile-to-Strong Crossover in Supercooled Liquid Ag-In-Sb-Te Studied by Ultrafast Calorimetry
Phase-change random-access memory relies on the reversible crystalline-glassy phase change in chalcogenide thin films. In this application, the speed of crystallization is critical for device performance: there is a need to combine ultrafast crystallization for switching at high temperature with high resistance to crystallization for non-volatile data retention near to room temperature. In phase-change media such as nucleation-dominated Ge2Sb2Te5, these conflicting requirements are met through the highly “fragile” nature of the temperature dependence of the viscosity of the supercooled liquid. The present study explores, using ultrafast-heating calorimetry, the equivalent temperature dependence for the growth-dominated medium Ag-In-Sb-Te. The crystallization shows (unexpectedly) Arrhenius temperature dependence over a wide intermediate temperature range. Here it is shown that this is evidence for a fragile-to-strong crossover on cooling the liquid. Ensisynnyttäjien kokemuksia synnytyssairaalan imetysohjauksesta
Suomalaiset äidit suhtautuvat positiivisesti imetykseen, mutta silti harva täysimettää lastaan suositeltuun puolen vuoden ikään asti. Synnytyssairaalassa annetun varhaisen imetysohjauksen merkitys on laajasti tunnustettu. Synnytyssairaaloille imetysohjauksen suuntaviivoiksi on laadittu maailmanlaajuinen Kymmenen askeleen ohjelma, jota noudattamalla voidaan lisätä imetyksen onnistumista ja kestoa. Opinnäytetyömme tilaajana toimii Kainuun maakunta -kuntayhtymä, Kainuun keskussairaalan osasto 4, joka on erikoistunut naistentauteihin ja synnytyksiin.
Opinnäytetyömme tarkoituksena on kuvata ensisynnyttäjien kokemuksia synnytyssairaalan antamasta imetysohjauksesta. Tavoitteena on saada tietoa synnytyssairaalan antamasta imetysohjauksesta ensisynnyttäjien kokemana, jotta synnytyssairaala voi kehittää imetysohjaustaan.
Tutkimusongelmat olivat; 1. Millaisia kokemuksia ensisynnyttäjillä on synnytyssairaalan antamaan imetysohjaukseen liittyen? 2. Miten ensisynnyttäjät toivovat synnytyssairaalan imetysohjausta kehitettävän?
Opinnäytetyö on luonteeltaan kvalitatiivinen. Aineisto kerättiin kahdelta ensisynnyttäjältä. Aineistonkeruumenetelmänä käytettiin teemahaastattelua. Tutkimukseen osallistuneet ensisynnyttäjät olivat täysi-ikäisiä ja puhuivat äidinkielenään suomea. Haastatteluiden aikaan ensisynnyttäjien kotiutumisesta synnytyssairaalasta oli kulunut noin kaksi kuukautta. Aineisto analysoitiin deduktiivisen sisällönanalyysin avulla.
Opinnäytetyömme tulosten mukaan synnytyssairaalan antama imetysohjaus ei kaikilta osin vastaa Kymmenen askeleen ohjelmaa. Imetysohjaus synnytyssairaalassa toteutui vaihtelevasti ja sen sisältö oli ajoittain ristiriitaista. Henkilökunnan antama tuki ja konkreettinen apu imetyksen alkuvaiheessa koettiin tärkeänä. Ensisynnyttäjät toivoivat sekä imetysohjauksen sisältöä että osaston toimintaa kehitettävän. Pääosin ensisynnyttäjät olivat tyytyväisiä saamansa imetysohjaukseen.
Saamiemme tulosten mukaan Kymmenen askeleen ohjelmaa ei säännönmukaisesti noudateta synnytyssairaalassa, joten voidaan olettaa, että imetysohjauksen laatu ja määrä eivät ole riittävällä tasolla. Imetysohjausta pitäisi tarjota aktiivisesti huomioiden asiakkaiden yksilölliset tarpeet.Finnish mothers generally have a positive attitude towards breastfeeding although only a few mothers breastfeed the recommended six months. The significance of early breastfeeding counseling in maternity hospitals is widely recognized. To help promote this counseling, a worldwide Ten Steps for Succesful Breastfeeding program was compiled, which increases the success and duration of breastfeeding. This thesis was commissioned by the gynecology and obstetrics ward 4 in Kainuu Central Hospital.
The purpose of this thesis was to document first time mothers’ experiences of breastfeeding counseling given in the maternity hospital. The aim was to gather information on counseling as experienced by first time mothers in order for the hospital to improve their counseling practices. The two research questions were; 1. What kind of experiences do first time mothers have regarding breastfeeding counseling in the maternity hospital? 2. How would first time mothers wish this counseling to be improved?
The nature of this thesis is qualitative. The material was gathered from two first time mothers using thematic interview as the collection method. The mothers taking part in this research were adults, and their native lan-guage was Finnish. The interviews took place approximately two months after they were discharged from the maternity hospital. The material was analyzed with deductive content analysis.
According to the results of this thesis, breastfeeding counseling given in maternity hospitals did not always correspond to the Ten Steps for Succesful Breastfeeding program. Counseling was given in a varying manner, and its content appeared contradictory at times. Support and practical help in the early stages of breastfeeding was seen important. First time mothers hoped that the content of breastfeeding counseling and the practices on the maternity ward would be improved. Yet they were mainly content with the breastfeeding counseling they had received.
According to the results of this thesis, the Ten Steps for Succesful Breastfeeding program is not regularly fol-lowed in maternity hospitals, which can lead to the conclusion that the quality and extent of breastfeeding counseling is inadequate. Breastfeeding counseling should actively be offered to all mothers, and counseling should effectively pay attention to clients’ individual needs
Low missing mass, single- and double diffraction dissociation at the LHC
Low missing mass, single- and double diffraction dissociation is calculated
for the LHC energies from a dual-Regge model, dominated by a Pomeron Regge pole
exchange. The model reproduces the rich resonance structure in the low missing
mass Mx region. The diffractionly excited states lie on the nucleon trajectory,
appended by the isolated Roper resonance. Detailed predictions for the squared
momentum transfer and missing mass dependence of the differential and
integrated single- and double diffraction dissociation in the kinematical range
of present and future LHC measurements are given. The model predicts a possible
turn-down of the cross section towards, t -> 0 in a region probably accessible
in future experiments in the nearly forward direction.
The present work is a continuation and extension (e.g. with double
diffraction) of a previous work using the dual Regge approach
Google Maps -selainsovelluksen toteutus Bing Mapsilla
Opinnäytetyön aiheena oli kehitystyö Google Mapsin APIa käyttävään selainsovellukseen. Kehitystyön tarkoituksena oli lisätä sovellukseen tuki Bing Mapsille. Tuki Bing Mapsille haluttiin, koska osa Bing Mapsin satelliittikuvista on Google Mapsin satelliittikuvia parempia. Tavoitteena oli toteuttaa kaikki alkuperäisen sovelluksen työkalut myös Bing Mapsin APIlla. Iso osa työstä koski polygonien piirtämistä kartalle sekä piirrettyjen polygonien muokkausta.
Työ toteutettiin JavaScript-ohjelmointikielellä ja Bing Mapsin AJAX Control versio 7:llä. Työn teko aloitettiin tutkimalla Bing Mapsin APIn ja Google Mapsin APIn eroja ja miettimällä, miten Google Mapsissa käytetyt ominaisuudet toteutettaisiin Bing Mapsissa. Ongelmien ratkeamisen myötä Bing Mapsin ominaisuuksia lisättiin alkuperäiseen sovellukseen.
Kaikki alkuperäisen Google Mapsin APIa käyttävän sovelluksen toiminnot saatiin toteutettua myös Bing Mapsin APIlla. Suurin osa toiminnoista toimi erittäin hyvin, mutta osassa toiminnoissa oli pieniä ongelmia. Ongelmat olivat kuitenkin suurimmaksi osaksi täysin visuaalisia virheitä, eivätkä ne estäneet sovelluksen käyttämistä
