Learning STRIPS Action Models with Classical Planning

This paper presents a novel approach for learning STRIPS action models from examples that compiles this inductive learning task into a classical planning task. Interestingly, the compilation approach is flexible to different amounts of available input knowledge; the learning examples can range from a set of plans (with their corresponding initial and final states) to just a pair of initial and final states (no intermediate action or state is given). Moreover, the compilation accepts partially specified action models and it can be used to validate whether the observation of a plan execution follows a given STRIPS action model, even if this model is not fully specified.Comment: 8+1 pages, 4 figures, 6 table

Embedding Sustainable Development Goals in Education. Teachers’ Perspective about Education for Sustainability in the Basque Autonomous Community

In the current context of unsustainability that we inhabit, education is considered to be a necessary pillar for social transformation towards sustainable development. The main goal of this research is to analyze the implementation of educational practical experiences of the education for sustainability programs from the perspective of teachers working in secondary schools in the Basque Autonomous Community. The analyzed schools are situated in different socio-economic and environmental contexts. The analysis also aims to diagnose the extent of knowledge on the 2030 Global Agenda of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with a view to its future implementation. The study is based on qualitative tools such as in-depth interviews (38 interviews conducted at five secondary schools). For analytical purposes, the perspective of the teaching staff is adopted as they play an indispensable and determining role in education for sustainability. The main results showed that the involvement of the teaching staff, personal motivation and good leadership are essential for the success of the program, together with the support of school authorities. A stable teaching staff and a sense of identity with the project are decisive factors. In this sense, differences were detected between public schools and private schools that, to a certain extent, condition the difficulties faced by the teaching staff. Experiential activities, activities outside the classroom and a positive perspective on the subject are considered factors contributing to the success of the programs. SDGs were still largely unknown to the teaching staff but could provide a good framework for multidisciplinary education. This research was made possible by a grant for PhD researchers provided by the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU)

177 p.This thesis aims to expand the current scientific knowledge concerning polylactide and the different approaches which could lead to get over its limiting properties, i.e.: brittleness and thermal resistance; and the measurement of their lifespan in order to evaluate their use in semidurable or durable applications. For this purpose, blends of PLA with PMMA have been prepared at different ratios by twin screw extrusion. Moreover, the properties of the most interesting blend have been subsequently studied by Reactive Extrusion in the presence of a styrenic-glycidyl acrylate copolymer. On the other hand, a deep study concerning the combinational effect of plasticizer and nucleating agents on the crystallization kinetics of PLAs with different L-lactic acid contents was carried out. Finally, the lifespan predictions of the most interesting compounds developed was carried out. It has been experimentally measured the effect of ageing on the mechanical properties of the compounds, carried out by accelerated ageing at high temperatures.Leatiker S. Coop

    How to Reduce Employee Injuries

This MDS Capstone Project’s purpose is to bring forth knowledge, various resources, and different perspectives to help reduce employee injuries at Bettencourt & Crossbred Dairies. I chose this project because I was interested in understanding why there had been a steady increase in employee injuries on the dairy farms. In addition, I wanted to explore which departments and locations had increased employee work-related injuries and understand the dynamics surrounding these findings. The conclusion from my research was a need to increase safety awareness across all departments and provide educational information for accident prevention. Along with this information, there was a need to get injured employees back to light or modified work after they were released from their physician. The tangible product from this project is an updated Safety Program /Manual for Bettencourt and Crossbred Dairies which aims to promote a more robust safety culture from the owners, front-line managers to the employees. The goals and objectives are to ultimately decrease employee injuries across the dairy farming operation which will therefore reduce the overall workman’s compensation costs

Treball Final de Màster Universitari en Traducció Medicosanitària (Pla de 2013). Codi: SBA031.
