Optimal Production Planning For Patsol’s Venture Company Limited Using Integer Programming

    Get PDF
Industrial Production and the flow of resources in an economy are all complexes. Therefore, careful planning and control are required in the production process especially when the real situations being considered are to be integer values. The Various Problems facing industrialists today are as a result of inadequate and improper production planning techniques. This article determines the optimal production schedule of products for the PATSOL’S Furniture Company Limited. A mathematical model was used to represent the real situations based on the data collected. The model was analyzed and solution developed using the Integer Programming Algorithm.  The result gives an optimum monthly profit of N132, 120.00 with the production of 15 dinning chairs, 485 half upholsteries, 2 full upholsteries and 73 church pews. Key Words: Industrial Production; Integer Programming, Planning

Regression Analysis of Loan Repayment Capacity among Farmers in Doma, Nasarawa State

This empirical paper is aimed at Regressionally Analyzing the socio-economic factors affecting Doma micro?financed farmers in repaying loans got from micro?financed organization. Farm credits are crucial inputs required by the small holder farmers to establish and expand farms. These credits are geared towards increasing agricultural production, enhancing food sufficiency, prompting household and national income as well as augmenting borrower’s ability to repay loans. Microcredit facilities have played vital roles in the socio-economic transformation of the rural economics. This study was conducted in five wards of Doma where farming is the main occupation of the people. Ten respondents from four cooperative societies each in the wards totaling two hundred respondents were randomly stratified and used as sample for the research. The logistic regression equation and maximum likelihood estimation technique were used for the analysis since the model is a binary choice model. The explanatory variables or interactions reduction reduced the risk of multi-collinearity and the economically and theoretically plausible variables were retained for analysis using the bivariate correlation matrix. The analysis shows that average amount of loan paid by farmers was 78.3% of the amount due for payment. KEYWARDS: Loans; Banks; Doma; Equity; Microcredit; Micro?finance

Utilization of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and library operations in state university libraries in south-south Nigeria

This study examined utilization of information and communication technology (ICT) and library job operations in state university libraries in South-South Nigeria. Two hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. Survey research design was used. The population for the study constituted 143 librarians (professionals and paraprofessionals). A sample of 93 librarians was selected using purposive sampling technique. The instrument was validated by experts. The research data was analyzed with descriptive (mean and standard deviation) and inferential statistics (One-Way ANOVA). All hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. The findings revealed that there was a significant influence of online databases services on library job operations, (f=4.447*, P<.05, df=2,728, F-critical=3.00) and there was a significant influence of CD-ROM services on library job operations, (f=2.671*, P<.05, df=2,728, Fcritical= 3.00).From the result of the study, it was recommended among others that librarians should utilize more ICT tools to facilitate their job operations in the library. Keywords: Utilization of ICT, Online databases Service, CD-ROM Service, Library job operations, State University, Libraries, South-South Nigeri

Innovative, intra-articular, prosthetic technique for cranial cruciate ligament reconstruction in dogs: a cadaveric study

    Get PDF
The purpose of this study was to describe and assess the feasibility of a new intra-articular approach in the treatment of cranial cruciate ligament deficiency in dogs using an artificial ligament and a new bone-anchor system. Twelve canine cadavers weighting 26 to 45 kg were used in this ex-vivo study. Special tibial and femoral screws, two helicoils, and a high resistance artificial fiber compose the implant. Surgery was performed using the mean cranio-lateral approach to the stifle joint. Helicoil and tibial screw, connected to the fiber, were inserted in the center of the tibial insertion area of the cranial cruciate ligament. The fiber was passed over-the-top, tensioned, and fixed to the femoral screw, previously inserted with the helicoil in the distal part of the femur. Surgery was completed in all the cases. Occasional problems found during the insertion of the helicoils and screws were resolved with simple procedures. Post-operative clinical assessment showed negative cranial drawer test, negative cranial tibial thrust, and normal range of motion. Radiographic evaluation showed an appropriate positioning of both tibial and femoral implants in all the cases. The results of the first surgical appraisal of this new technique are encouraging, although further studies are necessary to demonstrate the in vivo efficacy of this procedure

Incidence of Pes planus amongst the people of Cross River State

    Get PDF
The incidence of Pes planus was determined among the people of Cross River State. A total of 1000 individuals comprising 500 males and 500 females of Cross River State origin and aged 20-30 years were used to assess the prevalence of Pes planus. All volunteers involved in the study had no deformities or previous fractures of the lower extremities especially of the foot. For each volunteer, bilateral plantar prints were obtained using ink procedure method. All prints were counted, separated into sexes and the incidence of flat foot calculated for both sexes. A total of 111 individuals had flat foot comprising 44 males and 67 females. The overall incidence of Pes planus was 22.20% with a prevalence of 8.80% amongst males and 13.40% amongst females. Bilateral flat foot was more common in females (11.20%) than in males (6.00%). Unilateral flat foot was more common in males (2.80%) than in females (2.20%). Our result shows that the prevalence of flat foot is higher amongst the females than the males in Cross River State with the prevalence being 22.20%

Correlation between gender and the antero-posterior diameter of normal pancreatic head

Background: Pancreatic carcinoma involving the head, accounts for most cases of extra hepatic obstruction of the hepato-biliary system and usually go undetected in its early stage. Also, reports show that gender is an independent risk factor for severity of gastrointestinal and non-gastrointestinal diseases and many of these diseases including cases of pancreatic carcinoma, show a gender bias, hence the rationale for the study. Objective: To assess the relationship between the Antero-Posterior (AP) diameter of the pancreatic head and gender using Contrast Enhanced Computed Tomography (CECT) scan. Methods: Eighty (80) apparently normal computed tomography (CT) scan images of 41(51.25 %) male and 39 (48.75 %) female subjects were retrospectively, and prospectively, evaluated with their ages which rangedfrom 19 to 70 years, obtained from Image Diagnostics and the Georges Diagnostic Centres, both in PortHarcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria for a period of eight months (January - August, 2016).Results: The mean AP diameter of the pancreatic head in the study population was found to be 2.6 ± 0.3 cm. This result was however, smaller in the males (2.60 ± 0.3 cm) compared to the females (2.70 ± 0.3 cm) in the study population. A weak negative correlation (r = -0.327) was observed between pancreatic head AP diameter and gender (p < 0.05).Conclusion: Results obtained from the present study showed no significant relationship between the AP diameter of the pancreatic head and gender in the study population
