Broadcast Strategies with Probabilistic Delivery Guarantee in Multi-Channel Multi-Interface Wireless Mesh Networks

Multi-channel multi-interface Wireless Mesh Networks permit to spread the load across orthogonal channels to improve network capacity. Although broadcast is vital for many layer-3 protocols, proposals for taking advantage of multiple channels mostly focus on unicast transmissions. In this paper, we propose broadcast algorithms that fit any channel and interface assignment strategy. They guarantee that a broadcast packet is delivered with a minimum probability to all neighbors. Our simulations show that the proposed algorithms efficiently limit the overhead

State-of-art of artificial intelligence in the portuguese food retail sector

This study aims to explore the actual state of the art of the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the food retail industry in Portugal. Literature review is conducted to propose industry definitions and to provide insights regarding the competitive landscape and AI adoption in industries. Three research questions are answered regarding technology and AI in food retailing.Qualitative research concluded that retailers consider technology an enabler for the future of their businesses and physical stores. Although knowing what AI is, they still consider to be beginners and mainly find it useful for the optimization of their operations

Extraction and characterization of andiroba (Carapa guianensis) oil and its effects on ectonucleotidases of blood serum of rats

Trabalho de Conclusão de Curso (Graduação)Carapa guianensis, popularly known as andiroba, is a tree that grows at Amazon Basin and is used in popular medicine in Brazil. Oil obtained from andiroba seeds is employed to treat inflammation, wound healing, as well as infections and insect repellent. Purinergic signaling helps to control cardiovascular functions which may be related to these pathologies. Thus, the aim of the present study was to evaluate the effects of C. guianensis oil on ectonucleotidase activities from rat blood serum. Oil extraction was performed using hexane as solvent. The procedure yielded 49.11 % of andiroba oil that was used for further characterization and functional assays. Peroxide index resulted in 7,916 ± 0,54 meq peroxide/ 1 Kg sample that signals to high levels of oxidants in the oil. However, low acidity was observed, evidencing that the oil was not in decomposition state. Total phenolic content and antioxidant activity by DPPH method had low results (24.99 mg EAG/ Kg of sample and negative values, respectively), showing that from this methodology, these molecules were not kept in the oil. Besides, hydrolyses of ATP, ADP and AMP in blood serum of rats were not affected by andiroba oil at different concentrations tested (0 µg mL-1, 125 µg mL-1, 250 µg mL-1, 500 µg mL-1 and 1000 µg mL-1). In conclusion, oil extraction from andiroba seeds was good in terms of yield; however, the quality of this andiroba oil was different from others obtained through different methodologies, which importantly impacted the expected effects upon antioxidant capacity of the oil and its effect on nucleotide hydrolysis

Buildings and places in consumers’ perceptions of authenticity of corporate heritage brands: The Vista Alegre case study

While being a recent topic in the corporate marketing literature, corporate heritage brands are an acknowledged topic of research. A corporate heritage brand is a brand that embraces its own past in a relevant way, and that takes advantage of that past, in the present and to build a successful future. The purpose of this study is to understand the impact of buildings and places in consumers’ perceptions of authenticity in corporate heritage brands. This study was, therefore, designed within qualitative-inductive research, consisting of a single case study. The research process consisted of the analysis of 25 semi-structured interviews. This study’s contributions include geographical proximity of the spaces of corporate heritage brands to the residents, as a reason for consumers to visit the space while the region is part of the brand’s identity. Besides, by including stores from other brands in their space, corporate heritage brands can increase consumers’ chance to visit the space, while developing a cohesive image for consumers. Factors such as the aging of the buildings in the space of corporate heritage brands, as well as the representation of the company’s effort to provide good living conditions for the workers, influence consumers’ assessment of authenticity of the space

A Model-Predictive Motion Planner for the IARA Autonomous Car

We present the Model-Predictive Motion Planner (MPMP) of the Intelligent Autonomous Robotic Automobile (IARA). IARA is a fully autonomous car that uses a path planner to compute a path from its current position to the desired destination. Using this path, the current position, a goal in the path and a map, IARA's MPMP is able to compute smooth trajectories from its current position to the goal in less than 50 ms. MPMP computes the poses of these trajectories so that they follow the path closely and, at the same time, are at a safe distance of eventual obstacles. Our experiments have shown that MPMP is able to compute trajectories that precisely follow a path produced by a Human driver (distance of 0.15 m in average) while smoothly driving IARA at speeds of up to 32.4 km/h (9 m/s).Comment: This is a preprint.
