    Quantum Hamiltonians with Quasi-Ballistic Dynamics and Point Spectrum

    Consider the family of Schr\"odinger operators (and also its Dirac version) on 2(Z)\ell^2(\mathbb{Z}) or 2(N)\ell^2(\mathbb{N}) Hω,SW=Δ+λF(Snω)+W,ωΩ, H^W_{\omega,S}=\Delta + \lambda F(S^n\omega) + W, \quad \omega\in\Omega, where SS is a transformation on (compact metric) Ω\Omega, FF a real Lipschitz function and WW a (sufficiently fast) power-decaying perturbation. Under certain conditions it is shown that Hω,SWH^W_{\omega,S} presents quasi-ballistic dynamics for ω\omega in a dense GδG_{\delta} set. Applications include potentials generated by rotations of the torus with analytic condition on FF, doubling map, Axiom A dynamical systems and the Anderson model. If WW is a rank one perturbation, examples of Hω,SWH^W_{\omega,S} with quasi-ballistic dynamics and point spectrum are also presented.Comment: 17 pages; to appear in Journal of Differential Equation

    Dynamical Delocalization for the 1D Bernoulli Discrete Dirac Operator

    An 1D tight-binding version of the Dirac equation is considered; after checking that it recovers the usual discrete Schr?odinger equation in the nonrelativistic limit, it is found that for two-valued Bernoulli potentials the zero mass case presents absence of dynamical localization for specific values of the energy, albeit it has no continuous spectrum.     Dynamical Lower Bounds for 1D Dirac Operators

    Quantum dynamical lower bounds for continuous and discrete one-dimensional Dirac operators are established in terms of transfer matrices. Then such results are applied to various models, including the Bernoulli-Dirac one and, in contrast to the discrete case, critical energies are also found for the continuous Dirac case with positive mass.Comment: 18 pages; to appear in Math.

    Em fronteiras: a proposta do curriculum trivium no contexto de aulas de Português para haitianos

    This article is an clipping of a doctoral research project, developed in the Graduate Program in Education of the University of São Paulo (FEUSP). It aims to present the first approaches of the research, with Haitian students in a learning project of Portuguese. Through participant observation in the classes, the first stage of the project took place in an Centro Integrado de Educação de Jovens e Adultos (CIEJA) in the city of São Paulo. We raise elements belonging to the borders that cross the Haitian diaspora of the students participating in the Portuguese. Considering the theorizations of the Ethnomathematics Program, Freire's concept of the theme and the possibilities of a proposal based on trivium knowledge (materacy, literacy and tecnoracy) and approaching the reality of the students, we identified the theme generator Work, as an element that can mobilize knowledge that surrounds it in daily life. We hope that the life history of Haitian students and the elements that limit them socio-culturally can, in addition to bringing school knowledge, to remove them from the borders of invisibility and racism.Este artículo forma parte de un proyecto de investigación doctoral desarrollado en el Programa de Posgrado en Educación de la Universidad de Sao Paulo (FEUSP). Su objetivo es presentar los primeros enfoques de la investigación, con estudiantes haitianos en un proyecto de aprendizaje de portugués. A través de la observación de los participantes en las clases, la primera etapa del proyecto tuvo lugar en un Centro Integrado de Educación juvenil y de adultos (CIEJA) en la ciudad de Sao Paulo. Levantamos elementos pertenecientes a las fronteras que cruzan la diáspora haitiana de los estudiantes que participan de las clases de portugues. Teniendo en cuenta las teorizaciones del Programa Etnomatemática, el concepto de Freire del tema del generador y las posibilidades de una propuesta basada en el conocimiento trivium (materacy, literacy y tecnoracy) y, acercándose a la realidad de los estudiantes, identificamos el generador temático Trabajo, como un elemento que puede movilizar el conocimiento que los rodea en la vida cotidiana. Esperamos que la historia de la vida de los estudiantes haitianos y los elementos que los limitan socioculturalmente puedan, además de aportar conocimientos escolares, colaborar para sacarlos de las fronteras de la invisibilidad y el racismo.Este artigo é um recorte de um projeto de pesquisa de doutorado desenvolvido no Programa de Pós-Graduação em Educação da Universidade de São Paulo (FEUSP). Tem como objetivo apresentar as primeiras aproximações da investigação, com estudantes haitianos em um projeto de aprendizagem de português. Por meio da observação participante nas aulas, a primeira etapa do projeto se deu em um Centro Integrado de Educação de Jovens e Adultos (CIEJA) na cidade de São Paulo. Levantamos elementos pertencentes as fronteiras que atravessam a diáspora haitiana dos estudantes participantes das aulas de português.     Use of the ABC Curve in Medicine Line Balancing: A Case Study at a Brazilian Pharmaceutical Distribution Center

    [EN] Within the logistics, especially in distribution centers, there is still use of manual activities, with great possibility of gaining productivity. This work aims to improve efficiency in the supply and separation stages by balancing drug lines using the ABC classification. For this, a case study was carried out in a large Brazilian retail pharmaceutical network, in which products of higher output were relocated in more strategic areas. Ergonomic gains, reduction of required manpower, greater assertiveness, and savings of two hours of work (25%) were the main results achieved.     Risk factors for infection with Giardia duodenalis in pre-school children in the city of Salvador, Brazil.

    A cross-sectional study of 694 children aged 2 to 45 months selected from 30 clusters throughout the city of Salvador, Bahia (pop. 2.3 million) was carried out as part of a longitudinal study of diarrhoea in order to identify risk factors for infection with Giardia duodenalis. Variables studied included three social and demographic factors (such as mother's education and marital status), five relating to the peri-domestic environment (rubbish disposal, open sewers, paving of the street), seven relating to the home itself (house construction, susceptibility to flooding, water supply and sanitation) as well as a score for hygiene behaviour based on structured observation. After multivariate analysis using a hierarchical model, only four significant risk factors were found: (a) number of children in the household under five years (b) rubbish not collected from the house (c) presence of visible sewage nearby, and (d) absence of a toilet. All four were significant at the 1% level

    O trabalho discute algumas prescrições e práticas para a educação dos corpos na experiência anarquista da Escola Moderna de Barcelona. Ancorados em um conjunto de reflexões sobre a natureza para o melhor desenvolvimento da educação, percorremos documentos que vão desde tratados sobre a natureza, livros didáticos e artigos publicados no Boletín de la Escuela Moderna no período entre a década de 80 do século XIX e a primeira década do séc. XX. Capturando a voga modernizadora da educação que, no entanto, recuperava a tradição para defender um “retorno à natureza”, os anarquistas se mostraram sintonizados com os apelos do seu tempo, mas inovaramao propor uma educação que questionava o status quo, o autoritarismo e advogava a emancipação dos trabalhadores. Para eles, educar era mais do que instruir. Assim, se eles também repercutiram essa preocupação com a regeneração do povo, a sua proposta assumia características particulares, no sentido de formar sujeitos capazes de lutarem por uma sociedade mais justa, livre e igualitária Por isso, atividades como passeios, excursões, além de práticas escolares nas quais a natureza fosse conhecida e compreendida, eram atividades essenciais para que os alunos superassem o obscurantismo e a ignorância que ajudavam a fomentar todas as formas de dominação.     Validation of a food frequency questionnaire for children and adolescents aged 4 to 11 years living in Salvador, Bahia.

    OBJECTIVE: To assess the validity of a food frequency questionnaire (FFQ) by applying it to children and adolescents living in Salvador, Bahia. METHODS: The validity of this FFQ with 98 food items was investigated among 108 children and adolescents who were selected from a sample of 1445 that had been planned for a study on the risk factors for asthma and other allergic diseases. The adults responsible for these children and adolescents gave responses for a 24-hour recall (R24h) and an FFQ. The average energy and nutrient values from the FFQ were compared with those from the R24h by means of the paired t test and Pearson correlation coefficients. The concordance was evaluated using the Bland-Altman method and kappa statistics. RESULTS: The energy and nutrient intake estimated using the FFQ was significantly higher than what was obtained using the R24h. The correlation coefficients adjusted for energy were statistically significant for protein, fat, vitamin C and zinc. The weighted kappa values ranged from 0.06 for vitamin A (p = 0.24) to 0.34 for energy (p < 0.00). The results from the Bland-Altman plots for lipid, protein and zinc showed the most significant validity parameters, and zinc was found to show the best concordance. CONCLUSION: The results suggest that the FFQ showed satisfactory validity for use in studies involving children and adolescents
