The present research articulates the mixture between human beings and forest beings through drawing. The Amazonian flora has one of the greatest diversities in the world, it is in it that we find the necessary resources to provide the designs of our entire study. The objective of this work is to create works with new textures for the human body using the textures of leaves found in the Amazon rainforest. To compose the drawings, we used general ideas about evolutionary theories that presuppose the fusion of beings of different species, the relationship between body and drawing, different methods of artistic processes, bringing the concept of mimicry found in nature that transforms beings, but does not change its essence. Walmor Corrêa and Giambattista Della Porta are some of the studied artists who condense the ideas of our research, with their artistic works of transformation and comparison between human beings and animals. We managed to synthesize through drawings the fusion of textures found in the forest with human skin

Pair approximation for a model of vertical and horizontal transmission of parasites.

We apply Stochastic Dynamics method for a differential equations model, proposed by Marc Lipsitch and collaborators (Proc. R. Soc. Lond. B 260, 321, 1995), for which the transmission dynamics of parasites occurs from a parent to its offspring (vertical transmission), and by contact with infected host (horizontal transmission). Herpes, Hepatitis and AIDS are examples of diseases for which both horizontal and vertical transmission occur simultaneously during the virus spreading. Understanding the role of each type of transmission in the infection prevalence on a susceptible host population may provide some information about the factors that contribute for the eradication and/or control of those diseases. We present a pair mean-field approximation obtained from the master equation of the model. The pair approximation is formed by the differential equations of the susceptible and infected population densities and the differential equations of pairs that contribute to the former ones. In terms of the model parameters, we obtain the conditions that lead to the disease eradication, and set up the phase diagram based on the local stability analysis of fixed points. We also perform Monte Carlo simulations of the model on complete graphs and Erdös-Rényi graphs in order to investigate the influence of population size and neighborhood on the previous mean-field results; by this way, we also expect to evaluate the contribution of vertical and horizontal transmission on the elimination of parasite. The recent arrangements of cities have drawn the attention of actors, who work in the triple helix, to meet the collective challenges centered on urban environments. The term sustainable and smart cities proposes two axes of studies: conceptual approaches; and the practical scope of decision-making processes of public managers. The term is also directly related to the challenges of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially those related to sustainable cities and communities. From this perspective, this study aims to analyze the conceptual approaches of the terms sustainable cities, smart cities and sustainable and smart cities, in light of the challenges of the SDGs. This is a research, based on a systematic bibliographical review, found by an exploratory order and whose treatment was qualitative in nature. The results showed that conceptual approaches to sustainable cities do not necessarily translate into smart cities. Also, smart cities should not automatically be considered sustainable cities. Thus, the most appropriate term would be sustainable and smart cities. Based on this reflection, it is suggested to interested parties the design of more effective public policies aimed at collective challenges centered on more sustainable urban environments and with intelligent technological contributions.

    Get PDF

Combined search for the Standard Model Higgs boson in pppp collisions at s=7\sqrt{s} = 7 TeV with the ATLAS detector

    Get PDF
A combined search for the Standard Model Higgs boson with the ATLAS detector at the LHC is presented. The datasets used correspond to integrated luminosities from 4.6 fb^-1 to 4.9 fb^-1 of proton-proton collisions collected at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV in 2011. The Higgs boson mass ranges of 111.4 GeV to 116.6 GeV, 119.4 GeV to 122.1 GeV, and 129.2 GeV to 541 GeV are excluded at the 95% confidence level, while the range 120 GeV to 560 GeV is expected to be excluded in the absence of a signal. An excess of events is observed at Higgs boson mass hypotheses around 126 GeV with a local significance of 2.9 standard deviations (sigma). The global probability for the background to produce an excess at least as significant anywhere in the entire explored Higgs boson mass range of 110-600 GeV is estimated to be ~15%, corresponding to a significance of approximately one sigma.Peer Reviewe

A list of land plants of Parque Nacional do Caparaó, Brazil, highlights the presence of sampling gaps within this protected area

Brazilian protected areas are essential for plant conservation in the Atlantic Forest domain, one of the 36 global biodiversity hotspots. A major challenge for improving conservation actions is to know the plant richness, protected by these areas. Online databases offer an accessible way to build plant species lists and to provide relevant information about biodiversity. A list of land plants of “Parque Nacional do Caparaó” (PNC) was previously built using online databases and published on the website "Catálogo de Plantas das Unidades de Conservação do Brasil." Here, we provide and discuss additional information about plant species richness, endemism and conservation in the PNC that could not be included in the List. We documented 1,791 species of land plants as occurring in PNC, of which 63 are cited as threatened (CR, EN or VU) by the Brazilian National Red List, seven as data deficient (DD) and five as priorities for conservation. Fifity-one species were possible new ocurrences for ES and MG states

Measurement of isolated-photon pair production in pppp collisions at s=7\sqrt{s}=7 TeV with the ATLAS detector

    Get PDF
The ATLAS experiment at the LHC has measured the production cross section of events with two isolated photons in the final state, in proton-proton collisions at . The full data set collected in 2011, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.9 fb(−1), is used. The amount of background, from hadronic jets and isolated electrons, is estimated with data-driven techniques and subtracted. The total cross section, for two isolated photons with transverse energies above 25 GeV and 22 GeV respectively, in the acceptance of the electromagnetic calorimeter (|η| < 1.37 and 1.52 < |η| < 2.37) and with an angular separation ΔR > 0.4, is pb. The differential cross sections as a function of the di-photon invariant mass, transverse momentum, azimuthal separation, and cosine of the polar angle of the largest transverse energy photon in the Collins-Soper di-photon rest frame are also measured. The results are compared to the prediction of leading-order parton-shower and next-to-leading-order and next-to-next-to-leading-order parton-level generators.Peer Reviewe

Measurement of W+WW^+W^- production in pp collisions at s\sqrt{s}=7  TeV with the ATLAS detector and limits on anomalous WWZ and WWγ couplings

    Get PDF
This paper presents a measurement of the W^+W^- production cross section in pp collisions at sqrt{s}=7 TeV. The leptonic decay channels are analyzed using data corresponding to an integrated 4.6 fb-1 collected with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The W^+W^- production cross section sigma(pp -> W^+W^-+X) is measured to be 51.9 +- 2.0 (stat) +- 3.9 (syst) +- 2.0 (lumi) pb, compatible with the Standard Model prediction of 44.7 +2.1 -1.9 pb. A measurement of the normalized fiducial cross section as a function of the leading lepton transverse momentum is also presented. The reconstructed transverse momentum distribution of the leading lepton is used to extract limits on anomalous WWZ and WWgamma couplings.Peer Reviewe

Search for diphoton events with large missing transverse momentum in 7 TeV proton-proton collision data with the ATLAS detector

    Get PDF
A search for diphoton events with large missing transverse momentum has been performed using proton-proton collision data at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV recorded with the ATLAS detector, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.8 fb^-1. No excess of events was observed above the Standard Model prediction and model-dependent 95% confidence level exclusion limits are set. In the context of a generalised model of gauge-mediated supersymmetry breaking with a bino-like lightest neutralino of mass above 50 GeV, gluinos (squarks) below 1.07 TeV (0.87 TeV) are excluded, while a breaking scale Lambda below 196 TeV is excluded for a minimal model of gauge-mediated supersymmetry breaking. For a specific model with one universal extra dimension, compactification scales 1/R < 1.40 TeV are excluded. These limits provide the most stringent tests of these models to date.Peer Reviewe

Search for dark matter candidates and large extra dimensions in events with a jet and missing transverse momentum with the ATLAS detector

    Get PDF
A search for new phenomena in events with a high-energy jet and large missing transverse momentum is performed using data from proton-proton collisions at TeV with the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider. Four kinematic regions are explored using a dataset corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.7 fb(−1). No excess of events beyond expectations from Standard Model processes is observed, and limits are set on large extra dimensions and the pair production of dark matter particles.Peer Reviewe
