Athena: Advanced Thematic Network in Activities in Women's Studies in Europe. Report from ATHENA panel of experts 1.a.: A Cross-European, Comparative Study of Degrees, Qualifications and Professional Outlets of Women's/Gender/Feminist Studies. Panel coordinator: Nina Lykke, University of Southern Denmark, Denmark, and Linkoeping University, SwedenThis report will briefly address the changes in higher education that occurred in Poland over the last ten years in terms of university structures and degree structures, the research policies and equal opportunity policies, and will subsequently focus on the history of women’s movement after 1989. It will finally present a case study of the institutionalization of Women’s Studies Center at the University of Lódz, one of the five major universities in Poland. Postmodernistyczne studia międzynarodowe. „Case study” w Uniwersytecie Łódzkim

Referat wygłoszony na Konferencji Polskiego Instytutu Spraw Międzynarodowych „Stosunki międzynarodowe jako przedmiot badań i dydaktyki”, Warszawa, grudzień 2000Zacznę od przedstawienia podstawowych tez referatu. Po pierwsze, odwołuję się do postmodernizmu dlatego, że najłatwiej jest wytłumaczyć różnicę pomiędzy „stosunkami międzynarodowymi” i „studiami międzynarodowymi” właśnie przy zastosowaniu dyskursu postmodernistycznego. Wprowadzam termin „studia międzynarodowe”, zamiast terminu „stosunki międzynarodowe”, ponieważ curriculum realizowane przez nowoutworzony Wydział Studiów Międzynarodowych i Politologicznych w Uniwersytecie Łódzkim zostało opracowane w oparciu o podstawowe założenia programowe studiów międzynarodowych. Po drugie, proponuję uzupełnić standardową definicję stosunków międzynarodowych tak, aby uwzględniała studia kulturowe w aspekcie międzynarodowym. Wykorzystuję tutaj refleksję Akira Iriye na temat stosunków międzynarodowych jako stosunków kulturowych. W końcu po trzecie, przedstawię curriculum realizowane na naszym wydziale i wyjaśnię jego podstawowe założenia programowe

Teoria i praktyka intersekcjonalności w nauczaniu akademickim

Pomysł na przygotowanie tej monografii pojawił się w związku z chęcią podsumowania bogatego dorobku naukowego samodzielnych pracowników nauki Wydziału Studiów Międzynarodowych i Politologicznych Uniwersytetu Łódzkiego. Publikacja ma na celu ukazanie eksperckiego potencjału tego zespołu, który zajmuje się bardzo szerokim spektrum międzynarodowych problemów politycznych, społecznych, ekonomicznych i kulturowych. Interdyscyplinarność jest traktowana jako ważny atut prowadzonych przez nas badań politologicznych oraz kulturowych. Jest ona jednocześnie wyrazem konsekwentnego dążenia do posługiwania się nowoczesnymi metoda mi naukowymi, łączącymi harmonijnie wiedzę z zakresu nauk społecznych, humanistycznych i ekonomicznych. Autorzy w swoich opracowaniach podjęli zarówno szczegółowe wątki związane z wyzwaniami strategicznymi występującymi w wybranych regionach świata, jak też bardziej uniwersalne rozważania nad warsztatem badawczym naukowca zajmującego się międzynarodowymi studiami politologicznymi i kulturowymi.Problematyka teorii intersekcjonalności i metodologia empirycznych badań intersekcjonalnych są omówione w pierwszej części artykułu. Druga część jest poświęcona nowatorskiej metodologii łączącej koncept intersekcjonalności i zaangażowanego odbioru dzieła filmowego, po raz pierwszy zastosowanej na zajęciach programu GEMMA i MISHD, prowadzonych w Ośrodku Naukowo-Badawczym Problematyki Kobiet WSMiP UŁ. Zastosowanie instrumentarium dydaktycznego w postaci dziennika zajęć i eseju narracyjnego umożliwia analizę subiektywnego, zaangażowanego odbioru dzieła filmowego, a jednocześnie stymuluje introspektywną refleksję studentów nad własnym życiem.Theory of intersectionality and methodology of conducting empirical research on intersectionality constitute the first part of the article. The second part is devoted to the presentation of a novel methodology, which combines intersectional methodology with the concept of audiencing, for the first time introduced in my teaching of courses in GEMMA and MISHD programmes at the Women’s Studies Centre, WSMiP-University of Łódź. The introduction of such didactic instruments as a student journal and personal narrative essay makes it possible to perform an analysis of subjectivised reception of film and, additionally, stimulates students’ retrospective reflection on their own life

The article considers the intersectionality issue – its potential for contemporary research and its status among other theoretical propositions. The author presents in her text the history of the analyzed concept, as well as the main theoretical directions of it and also asks for its use in the future. Intersectionality is considered in the paper in relation to feminist theory, theories of multiculturalism, ethnographic research, and to legal discussions. The author also cites the main originators and researchers of intersectionality: Kimberlé Crenshaw, Johanna Kantola and Nousiainen Kevät, Kathy Davis

Legal Realism and the Social Contract: Fuller’s Public Jurisprudence of Form, Private Jurisprudence of Substance

The underlying theme of this edited collection is gendered citizenship, as well as the challenges and limits that confront the gendering of citizenship. It critiques the notion of the genderless nation-state citizen — in both analytical and policy terms and contexts — and necessarily engages with at least three major sets of contradictions or tensions: limitations on achieving gender equal or gender equitable citizenship; relations and differences between gender equality policy, diversity policy, and gender mainstreaming; and interplays of academic analyses of and practical interventions on gendered citizenship. Contributors from diverse scientific disciplines and academic backgrounds aim to provide a better understanding of the challenges that societies within Europe and elsewhere face vis-à-vis diversity, regionalism, transnationalism, and migration

Postaci ojców i synów w twórczości Hawthome’a

Artykuł poddaje analizie postaci ojców i synów w twórczości pisarza amerykańskiego XX w., Nathaniela Hawthorne’a. Większość powieści i opowiadań Hawthorne’a charakteryzuje się obecnością silnych postaci kobiecych i słabych postaci męskich. Esej stawia tezę, że powodów tej sytuacji należy upatrywać w biografii pisarza, a szczególnie w uzależnieniu się pisarza od kobiet w jego życiu i obecności w jego życiu skompromitowanych „ojców ” (naturalnego ojca, Nathaniela Hawthorne’a i wuja Roberta). Hawthorne, według autorki eseju, wychowywał się bez modelu/wzoru ojca. Doprowadziło to do powstania tzw. „kompleksu kobiecego” (autorka uzupełnia tutaj teorię Freuda o tzw. „kompleksie męskim” u dziecka płci żeńskiej o wyżej wspomniany „kompleks kobiecy” u dziecka płci męskiej). W rezultacie, postaci mężczyzn w powieściach Hawthorne’a, a w szczególności The House of the Seven Gables i The Marble Faun próbują wydobyć się z tego kompleksu, co jest równoznaczne z procesem, który zwykliśmy nazywać dojrzewaniem.
