Innovation as an immanent attribute of an agile enterprise

Motivation: Each organization faces the challenge of operating in an environment that is unpredictable and turbulent. Emergence of business era caused that change had become a key feature that determines the economic environment of an enterprise. Market environment forces companies to seek strategic orientation that would allow them to use market opportunities and come to grips with growing customer demands. These goals can only be achieved by an organization that bears the hallmarks of agility. Therefore, one can assume that the condition of gaining competitive advantage and innovation of modern companies is possessing by them the attributes of agility. The agile organization is innovative, which means that it puts an emphasis on research and development, implements innovation, invests in new technologies and innovative programs.Aim: The purpose of this article is to analyse relationships between obtaining an ability to be innovative and agility attributes of an organization.Result: The presented research confirms that there is a connection between having agility attributes by a company and obtaining by it a high level of innovation. Many authors also specify important role of IT system in introducing product innovations and innovation processes

Komunikacja jako warunek funkcjonowania organizacji samorządowych

Artykuł podejmuje próbę wykazania, iż procesy komunikacji wpływają na rozwój samorządów terytorialnych. Są bowiem one podstawą budowy sprawnej i efektywnej administracji samorządowej, która wspiera i inicjuje działania na rzecz rozwoju oraz zadowolenia społecznego. Autor omawia najistotniejsze z tego punktu widzenia czynniki mające wpływ na skuteczne zarządzanie podmiotami samorządowymi. Na podstawie ich analizy stwierdza, że wskazane jest podejście interdyscyplinarne obejmujące zarówno metody, jak i sposoby komunikowania się. Empiryczna weryfikacja wybranych aspektów komunikacji została przeprowadzona na przykładzie czterech samorządów terytorialnych województwa podkarpackiego. Rezultaty badań pokazały, że komunikacja i realizacja misji samorządowej zależy od organizacji urzędu, co ma wpływ na współpracę między samorządem terytorialnym a organizacjami pozarządowymi (NGO), lokalnym biznesem oraz społecznością lokalną. Ponadto komunikacja jest podstawowym narzędziem umożliwiającym wpływ mieszkańców na realizację celów wyznaczonych przez samorządy

Assessment of the perceived safety culture in the petrochemical industry in Japan : a cross-sectional study

This study assessed the perceived safety culture among five petrochemical production companies in Japan. Current effects of the perceived safety culture on employee safety motivation and performance were also examined. A total of 883 workers from the five petrochemical companies, which were located in the Chugoku region of Japan, provided valid responses to the survey distributed by email. Structural equation modeling was used to evaluate the personnel safety culture in these industries. The endogenous variables considered in this study included petrochemical safety culture, personnel error behavior and personnel attitudes toward violation behaviors. Petrochemical personnel safety motivation was a mediating variable. This study’s findings highlight the importance of the perceived safety culture as a significant component of the organizational culture that influences employee behaviors and safety attitudes. This study further verifies the significant impact of the perceived safety culture in this industry sector on improving petrochemical personnel safety motivation and performance. Future research should explore the differences between the subcultures that have formed under larger safety cultures within similar high-risk industries, such as construction, aviation, manufacturing and mining

Agile organization – determinants and strategic directions leading towards an agile enterprise

The uncertainty and turbulences of market surroundings, globalization, developing linkages among companies and market instability entail tough challenge for contemporary organizations. In order to survive they must evolve their behaviors and competencies, strengthen strategic abilities as well as develop the lightning reaction to market signals. Hence, they need to develop agility indicators. These indicators become of key importance as the company intends to achieve market success. The author brings up issues of the agility, its indicators and the strategies which can lead to achieving agile enterprise, since this issue has not been widely discussed in the Polish literature on the subject. The goal of the article is to get these issues across and therefore it has been based on the literature published internationally. Analysis of these sources allows for specification of agility indicators, such as speed and flexibility, emphasizing that they should be linked together. The author of the presented article is reaching a conclusion, that agility can be attained by two interconnected strategies: exploiting the agility in order to achieve the competitive edge and integration of the organization, people and technology
