Disaggregated Public Expenditure Patterns and Private Investment Outcomes in Nigeria

    Get PDF
This study sought to find out the extent of relationship (if any) between the short- and long-term effects of the disaggregated component of government expenditure on private investments. Using the Auto Regressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) model, the study determined that components of both recurrent expenditure and capital expenditure are significant determinants of the relationships with private investment in the long run only. The results indicates that there is a significant crowding-in effect between components of government expenditure and private investments in Nigeria. This is consistent with the Keynesian school, particular for Nigeria’s economy which requires government to spend heavily in order to create the enabling environment for inflows of private investment while increasing aggregate demand and jobs. The study determined the optimal recurrent and capital expenditure models for the economy and also showed that lending rates inflation rates, exchange rates, and GDP growth rates, are significant determinants of private investments. The present study examined effects of self-management strategy on discriminatory behavior against the girl-child. The study adopted a quasi-experimental, 2x2 factorial design and a total of 80 participants were systematically randomly selected from 2local government areas in a state in Nigeria. 40 of them were males and 40 females. Validated self-reported measures were used for data collection and two hypotheses were tested in the study using Analysis of Covariance. Result showed a significant difference in the gender discriminatory behavior of parents in the experimental and control groups after treatment, thus hypothesis one was accepted. Hypothesis 2 was also accepted because there was a significant difference in the discriminatory behavior between male and female parents in the CG, SMS and CRS after treatment. It was thus concluded that self-management strategy has significant effect on changing discriminatory behavior against the girl-child.         Keywords: Discrimination, discriminatory behavior, Ondo, Self-management Strateg

The lecture method is probably the most prevalent and only method some university lecturers often employ in the training programs leading to the preparation of Nigerian graduates. In recent times the quality of graduates in Nigeria has necessitated a second look at this predominant method of preparation. Since the lecture method is predominantly teacher – centered and mostly leaves the learners as passive participants, only to take notes and probably ask questions after the lecture delivery if and when time permits, the need has arisen to look for alternative ways of graduates’ preparation that will be all inclusive. There is a need for a method that will shift the attention to the learners, while the lecturers play the role of facilitator of learning. One of the methods that can promote these all inclusiveness is Study Technology. It is to this end that this study envisages answering the question: “what will be the effect of study technology mode of instruction and lecture method on the academic performance of university students in Nigeria

    Get PDF
The impact of information and communication technologies in bringing about a profound transformation in all aspects of national life in the world over does not need to be over stressed anymore. Information and communication technologies heralds a fundamental change in the dissemination of information with regard to among other things, economic, business and education. Ultimately, this paper attempts to give an overview of current initiatives around ICTs, and university development through a review of available literature. The overview will be followed by a selection of case studies of Ajayi Crowther University, documenting initiatives where ICT plays a prominent role and suggestions for further research and projects to inspire discussion for future research programme. This is part of a process to develop research programme exploring ICT innovations in, and the consequences of their possible application to university development. ICTs and university development are extensive fields, and it is not possible to address all aspects in this paper but only what has been found to be of greatest current importance. When applying ICT to university development, it has been found that the most important challenges that institutions are currently facing are the responsibilities that have been transferred to them through recent decentralization. In this paper this aspect will thus be deliberately focused upon along with the ICTs that are of most relevant to these institutions meeting their new responsibilities.Key word: Electronic resource; Information; Communication technologies; Innovatio

With the rate of globalization and industrialization witnessed all over the world, there seems to have been an observable increase in the number of different organizations that are springing up to meet different needs. Some of these organizations are in the financial sector, telecommunications, oil and gas and a host of others. One of the many factors that have enhanced the functionality of these organizations has been the individual(s) who work in such organizations (i.e. the employees). Even in organizations where there are more operating machines than human beings, the fact remains that human beings are needed to operate the machines and direct the affairs of such organizations. Because of the importance of the employees in organizations, their effectiveness may go a long way in determining how well organizations achieve their set goals and objectives. Therefore, it will be pertinent for organizations to pay attention to the well being and satisfaction of their employees in order to increase their (employees’) organizational commitment. It follows therefore, that an effective organization will ensure that its employees are highly committed to their jobs by providing an enabling environment that will enhance employees’ organizational commitment (Adeyinka, Ayeni & Popoola, 2007)

    Get PDF
21st century education standards focus on 21st century skills, content knowledge and expertise. Technology advances such as eXtensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL) have revolutionized the way information is exchanged and the way business is conducted. These days, speed is of the essence and loss of accuracy, lack of transparency, and difficulty in analysis are increasingly becoming apparent risks. This research exposes XBRL as a phenomenon that represents the future of global accounting education. It discusses the concept and need for XBRL as well as its potential uses and challenges. The research found that there is an ongoing transformation in the way business is conducted and regulated world-wide. The onslaught of the information revolution has profound ramifications for corporate reporting information preparers and users. It therefore recommends that the greater the degree of collaboration between all participants in the financial information supply chain, including government regulators and public sector accountants, the greater the benefits that this information format enables for all participants, educationists, academics, companies, regulators, investors, and government agencies alike.peer-reviewe

This study examined Communication Apprehension among in-service teachers in a university of education in Nigeria with particular focus on the influence of gender and age on CA among the sample.  A cross-sectional ex post facto survey design was adopted for the study. Participants were 100 purposively & randomly sampled, in-service teachers drawn from a university of education in Nigeria. There were 35 (35%) males and 65 (65%) females, their ages ranged between 16 – 30 years with a mean age of 22.10 and a standard deviation of 2.48. of these samples, 71 were Christian, 27 Muslims and 2 belong to other religions. 90 of the total sample were singles, while 10 were married. Validated scale was used for data collection and three hypotheses tested using descriptive statistics and t-test for independent samples. Results showed that in-service teachers were not significantly high on CA and gender as well as age was not found to be significant predictors of CA among this sample. This result may be owing to the fact that they were purposive samples who have been exposed to pedagogical training that must have helped them to handle CA. it was recommended that further studies should examine other factors such as psychological and social and increase the sample size as well, cutting across other institutions apart from specialized university.
