Waves in Radial Gravity Using Magnetic Fluid
We are beginning laboratory experiments using magnetically active ferrofluids to study surface waves in novel geometries. Terrestrial gravity is eliminated from the dynamics, and the magnetic body force felt by ferrofluid in the presence of a magnetic field gradient is used to create a geopotential field which is a section of or an entire sphere or cylinder. New optical, electromagnetic and ultrasonic diagnostic techniques are under development to initially study capillary-gravity wave propagation and interaction in such geometries
Bistability of Slow and Fast Traveling Waves in Fluid Mixtures
The appearence of a new type of fast nonlinear traveling wave states in
binary fluid convection with increasing Soret effect is elucidated and the
parameter range of their bistability with the common slower ones is evaluated
numerically. The bifurcation behavior and the significantly different
spatiotemporal properties of the different wave states - e.g. frequency, flow
structure, and concentration distribution - are determined and related to each
other and to a convenient measure of their nonlinearity. This allows to derive
a limit for the applicability of small amplitude expansions. Additionally an
universal scaling behavior of frequencies and mixing properties is found.

Associations between the LEP -2548G/A Promoter and Baseline Weight and between LEPR Gln223Arg and Lys656Asn Variants and Change in BMI z Scores in Arab Children and Adolescents Treated with Risperidone
Data on baseline (antipsychotic-naïve) age, weight, and height and change in these over three subsequent follow up time points up to 313.6 days (CI 303.5-323.7), were collected from 181 risperidone-treated children and adolescents (mean age 12.58 years, SD 4.99, range 2.17-17.7) attending a pediatric neurology clinic in Saudi Arabia. Owing to differences in genotypic distributions in subsamples, results are reported from the white Arabs (N=144). Age and gender-normed BMI-standardised z scores (BMI z) were calculated (lmsgrowth program). Linear regression was performed for baseline weight and BMI z, while change in BMI z was assessed using random effects ordered logistic regression. The following SNPs were analyzed: rs7799039 in the LEP promoter, rs1805094 (previously rs8179183), rs1137100 and rs1137101 in the LEPR, and rs1414334 in HTR2C. We found a nominally significant association between rs7799309 and baseline weight, adjusting for height, age, gender and diagnosis (A/G, P=0.035, β=-3.62, compared to G/G). rs1137101 (G/G, P=0.018, OR=4.13 compared to A/A) and rs1805094 C-allele carriers (P=0.019, OR=0.51) showed nominally significant associations with change in BMI z categories. Our data support and replicate previous relevant associations for these variants including with weight gain on risperidone, whilst being the first to report such associations in those of Arab ethnicity
Measurement of the vector analyzing power in elastic electron-proton scattering as a probe of double photon exchange amplitudes
We report the first measurement of the vector analyzing power in inclusive
transversely polarized elastic electron-proton scattering at Q^2 = 0.1
(GeV/c)^2 and large scattering angles. This quantity should vanish in the
single virtual photon exchange, plane wave impulse approximation for this
reaction, and can therefore provide information on double photon exchange
amplitudes for electromagnetic interactions with hadronic systems. We find a
non-zero value of A=-15.4+/-5.4 ppm. No calculations of this observable for
nuclei other than spin 0 have been carried out in these kinematics, and the
calculation using the spin orbit interaction from a charged point nucleus of

Three-Nucleon Force Effects in Nucleon Induced Deuteron Breakup: Predictions of Current Models (I)
An extensive study of three-nucleon force effects in the entire phase space
of the nucleon-deuteron breakup process, for energies from above the deuteron
breakup threshold up to 200 MeV, has been performed. 3N Faddeev equations have
been solved rigorously using the modern high precision nucleon-nucleon
potentials AV18, CD Bonn, Nijm I, II and Nijm 93, and also adding 3N forces. We
compare predictions for cross sections and various polarization observables
when NN forces are used alone or when the two pion-exchange Tucson-Melbourne
3NF was combined with each of them. In addition AV18 was combined with the
Urbana IX 3NF and CD Bonn with the TM' 3NF, which is a modified version of the
TM 3NF, more consistent with chiral symmetry. Large but generally model
dependent 3NF effects have been found in certain breakup configurations,
especially at the higher energies, both for cross sections and spin
observables. These results demonstrate the usefulness of the kinematically
complete breakup reaction in testing the proper structure of 3N forces.Comment: 42 pages, 20 ps figures, 2 gif figure
Measurement of Analyzing Power for Proton-Carbon Elastic Scattering in the Coulomb-Nuclear Interference Region with a 22-GeV/c Polarized Proton Beam
The analyzing power for proton-carbon elastic scattering in the
coulomb-nuclear interference region of momentum transfer,
(GeV/, was measured with a 21.7
GeV/ polarized proton beam at the Alternating Gradient Synchrotron of
Brookhaven National Laboratory. The ratio of hadronic spin-flip to non-flip

Pseudorapidity distributions of charged particles from Au+Au collisions at the maximum RHIC energy, Sqrt(s_NN) = 200 GeV
We present charged particle densities as a function of pseudorapidity and
collision centrality for the 197Au+197Au reaction at Sqrt{s_NN}=200 GeV. For
the 5% most central events we obtain dN_ch/deta(eta=0) = 625 +/- 55 and
N_ch(-4.7<= eta <= 4.7) = 4630+-370, i.e. 14% and 21% increases, respectively,
relative to Sqrt{s_NN}=130 GeV collisions. Charged-particle production per pair
of participant nucleons is found to increase from peripheral to central
collisions around mid-rapidity. These results constrain current models of

Randomised controlled trial to improve health and reduce substance use in established psychosis (IMPaCT): cost-effectiveness of integrated psychosocial health promotion
Background: There is mounting evidence that people with severe mental illness have unhealthy lifestyles, high rates of cardiovascular and metabolic diseases, and greater risk of early mortality. This study aimed to assess the cost-effectiveness of a health promotion intervention seeking to improve physical health and reduce substance use in people with psychosis.
Methods: Participants with a psychotic disorder, aged 18-65 years old and registered on an enhanced care approach programme or equivalent were recruited from community mental health teams in six mental health trusts in England. Participants were randomisation to either standard community mental health team care (treatment as usual) or treatment as usual with an integrated health promotion intervention (IMPaCT). Cost-effectiveness and cost-utility analyses from health and social care and societal perspectives were conducted alongside a cluster randomised controlled trial. Total health and social care costs and total societal costs at 12 and 15 months were calculated as well as cost-effectiveness (incremental cost-effectiveness ratios and cost-effectiveness acceptability curves) at 15 months based on quality of life (SF-36 mental and physical health components, primary outcome measures) and quality adjusted life years (QALYs) using two measures, EQ-5D-3 L and SF-36. Data were analysed using bootstrapped regressions with covariates for relevant baseline variables.
Results: At 12-15 months 301 participants had full data needed to be included in the economic evaluation. There were no differences in adjusted health and social care costs (£95, 95% CI -£1410 to £1599) or societal costs (£675, 95% CI -£1039 to £2388) between the intervention and control arms. Similarly, there were no differences between the groups in the SF-36 mental component (−0.80, 95% CI -3.66 to 2.06), SF-36 physical component (−0.68, 95% CI -3.01 to 1.65), QALYs estimated from the SF-36 (−0.00, −0.01 to 0.00) or QALYs estimated from the EQ-5D-3 L (0.00, 95% CI -0.01 to 0.02).
Cost-effectiveness acceptability curves for all four outcomes and from both cost perspectives indicate that the probability of the health promotion intervention being cost-effective does not exceed 0.4 for willingness to pay thresholds ranging from £0-£50,000.
Conclusions: Alongside no evidence of additional quality of life/clinical benefit, there is also no evidence of cost-effectiveness
Nucleon-deuteron elastic scattering as a tool to probe properties of three-nucleon forces
Faddeev equations for elastic Nd scattering have been solved using modern NN
forces combined with the Tucson-Melbourne two-pion exchange three-nucleon
force, with a modification thereof closer to chiral symmetry and the Urbana IX
three-nucleon force. Theoretical predictions for the differential cross section
and several spin observables using NN forces only and NN forces combined with
three-nucleon force models are compared to each other and to the existing data.
A wide range of energies from 3 to 200 MeV is covered. Especially at the higher
energies striking three-nucleon force effects are found, some of which are
supported by the still rare set of data, some are in conflict with data and
