Sensitivity of the Mott Transition to Non-cubic Splitting of the Orbital Degeneracy: Application to NH3 K3C60

Within dynamical mean-field theory, we study the metal-insulator transition of a twofold orbitally degenerate Hubbard model as a function of a splitting \Delta of the degeneracy. The phase diagram in the U-\Delta plane exhibits two-band and one-band metals, as well as the Mott insulator. The correlated two-band metal is easily driven to the insulator state by a strikingly weak splitting \Delta << W of the order of the Kondo-peak width zW, where z << 1 is the metal quasiparticle weight. The possible relevance of this result to the insulator-metal transition in the orthorhombic expanded fulleride NH3 K3C60 is discussed.Comment: revtex, 15 pages including 6 ps figures. Objectives: The objectives of the study were to determine the prevalence and socio-economic determinants of autism among children attending primary and secondary schools in South East, Nigeria. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study that assessed the prevalence and socio-economic pattern of childhood autism among children attending primary and secondary schools in Enugu and Ebonyi states, South East Nigeria. The questionnaire was adapted from American Psychiatric Association: Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-IV-TR, 2000). The study was carried out between June and October, 2014. The schools were selected by listing all the mixed schools in the urban and semi- urban areas by simple random sampling. Results: A total of 721 subjects completed the questionnaire. The age of respondents ranged between 3 and 18 years, with mean age of 12.71 and standard deviation of 3.03 years. Twenty one children fulfilled the criteria for autism giving a prevalence of 2.9%. There is a significant association between age in categories (fishers exact test, p = 0.013) and social class (p=0.033). Conclusion: The prevalence of autism was 2.9%; and the socio-economic characteristics of childhood autism in South East Nigeria are similar to those in other parts of the world

The paper examined the role of Nigerian libraries in dwindling fake news on social media: the think and publish mindset. The paper pictured social media as the root source and lifeblood of fake news in the nation as users are allowed to publish and share news at little cost, highlighting that most social media users do not think of the effects of their content on the society before publishing and sharing. The paper presents bathing and drinking of saltwater as a preventive measure and cure for Ebola virus, claims of under-age voting in the northern part of the country during the 2015 presidential election, President Muhammadu Buhari’s death in 2017, fake claims that drinking of alcohol cured Corona virus as instances of fake news on social media. The paper reviewed the effects of fake news as; destruction of lives and properties, political aggression, intensification of conflict and societal fright. The paper takes a position that, the “I want to share syndrome”, poor reading culture amongst citizens, lack of information literacy skills, trust in network drive as reasons for the spread of fake news on social media. The paper therefore recommends that Nigerian libraries should increase the awareness of the effect of fake news in the society among social media users. The libraries should through sensitization programmes like; seminars, workshops, conferences and online videos educate social media users on how to spot fake news. Social media users should always think of the effect of their content on the society before publishing, and also read thoroughly, evaluate content and consult reliable sources before publishing or sharing any news

Kento Nakagawa, Takashi Obu, Kazuyuki KanosueFaculty of Sport Sciences, Waseda University, Tokorozawa, Saitama, Japan Purpose: To investigate the potential benefit of post-race wearing of unstable shoes (Masai Barefoot Technology [MBT]) on recovery from marathon race–induced fatigue.Patients and methods: Forty-five runners who participated in a full marathon race were divided into three groups: 1) MBT shoes, 2) trail running shoes, and 3) control (CON). Participants ran a full marathon with their own running shoes, and then put on the assigned shoes immediately after the race. They continued to wear the assigned shoes for the ensuing 3 days. The CON group wore their usual shoes. Estimates of post-race fatigue were made by the participants on questionnaires that utilized a visual analog scale. Estimates were made just after the race, as well as for the next 3 days. Results: The subjective fatigue of the MBT group was lower than that of the CON (P<0.05) or trail running shoe groups (P<0.05) on day 3.Conclusion: MBT shoe intervention can promote recovery from the fatigue induced by running a full marathon. Keywords: footwear, VAS, full maratho
