    A counterpart of the Mollow triplet (luminescence lineshape of a two-level system under coherent excitation) is obtained for the case of incoherent excitation in a cavity. Its analytical expression, in excellent agreement with numerical results, pinpoints analogies and differences between the conventional resonance fluorescence spectrum and its cavity QED analogue under incoherent excitation.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figure

    Heavy Neutrinos and Lepton Flavour Violation in Left-Right Symmetric Models at the LHC

    We discuss lepton flavour violating processes induced in the production and decay of heavy right-handed neutrinos at the LHC. Such particles appear in left-right symmetrical extensions of the Standard Model as the messengers of neutrino mass generation, and can have masses at the TeV scale. We determine the expected sensitivity on the right-handed neutrino mixing matrix, as well as on the right-handed gauge boson and heavy neutrino masses. By comparing the sensitivity of the LHC with that of searches for low energy LFV processes, we identify favourable areas of the parameter space to explore the complementarity between LFV at low and high energies.Comment: 34 pages, 16 figures, PRD versio

    Signatures of single site addressability in resonance fluorescence spectra

    Pioneering methods in recent optical lattice experiments allow to focus laser beams down to a spot size that is comparable to the lattice constant. Inspired by this achievement, we examine the resonance fluorescence spectra of two-level atoms positioned in adjacent lattice sites and compare the case where the laser hits only one atom (single site addressing) with cases where several atoms are illuminated. In contrast to the case where the laser hits several atoms, the spectrum for single site addressing is no longer symmetric around the laser frequency. The shape of the spectrum of fluorescent light can therefore serve as a test for single site addressing. The effects we find can be attributed to a dipole-dipole interaction between the atoms due to mutual exchange of photons.Comment: 9 Pages, 4 figure

    The study aimed to develop and evaluate the instructional module for special program in journalism for grade 8 students. It is geared towards probing the errors encountered in learning resource construction and the recommendations in enhancing the instructional material through questionnaires and guidelines for learning resource material (LRM) production. Data were gathered from forty Grade 8 Journalism students enrolled at an Integrated High School in Laguna, Philippines and ten specialists who were purposively selected. The data were collected and treated using Mean. Findings revealed that the student-evaluators strongly agree on the rating criteria of the instructional module in terms of format, content, clarity and usefulness. On the other hand, the specialists rated the instructional module passed on content, format and presentation and organization criteria but failed on accuracy and up-to-datedness of information

    Luminescence Spectra of Quantum Dots in Microcavities. I. Bosons

    We provide a unified theory of luminescence spectra of coupled light-matter systems realized with semiconductor heterostructures in microcavities, encompassing: i) the spontaneous emission case, where the system decays from a prepared (typically pure) initial state, and ii) luminescence in the presence of a continuous, incoherent pump. While the former case has been amply discussed in the literature (albeit mainly for the case of resonance), no consideration has been given to the influence of the incoherent pump. We show how, by provoking a self-consistent quantum state, the pump considerably alters the emission spectra, even at vanishing intensities. The main outcome of our analysis is to unambiguously identify strong-coupling in situations where it appears in disguise or only seems to appear. Here, we consider bosonic matter fields, in which case fully analytical solutions can be obtained. This describes the case of quantum wells or large quantum dots, or the limit of low excitation where the average populations remain much smaller than one

    The Impact of Inherited Retinal Diseases in the Republic of Ireland (ROI) and the United Kingdom (UK) from a Cost-of-Illness Perspective

    To date, there has been a global lack of data regarding the prevalence of conditions falling under the Inherited Retinal Diseases (IRD) classification, the impact on the individuals and families affected, and the cost burden to economies. The absence of an international patient registry, and equitable access to genetic testing, compounds this matter. The resulting incomplete knowledge of the impact of IRDs hinders the development and commissioning of clinical services, provision of treatments, and planning and implementation of clinical trials. Thus, there is a need for stronger evidence to support value for money to regulatory bodies for treatments approved, and progressing through clinical trials. To ensure a strategic approach to future research and service provision, it is necessary to learn more about the IRD landscape. This review highlights two recent cost-of-illness reports on the socio-economic impact of 10 IRDs in the Republic of Ireland (ROI) and the United Kingdom (UK), which demonstrate the comprehensive impact of IRDs on individuals affected, their families, friends and society. Total costs attributable to IRDs in the ROI were estimated to be £42.6 million in 2019, comprising economic (£28.8 million) and wellbeing costs (£13.8 million). Wellbeing costs were estimated using the World Health Organization (WHO) burden of disease methodology, a non-financial approach, where pain, suffering and premature mortality are measured in terms of disability-adjusted-life-years (DALYs). In the UK, wellbeing costs attributable to IRDs were £196.1 million, and economic costs were £327.2 million amounting to £523.3 million total costs in 2019. Accounting for over one-third of total costs, the wellbeing burden of persons affected by IRDs should be emphasized and factored into reimbursement processes for therapies and care pathways. This targeted review presents the most current and relevant data on IRD prevalence in the ROI and the UK, and the impacts (financial and non-financial) of IRDs in terms of diagnosis, wellbeing, employment, formal and informal care, health system costs, deadweight losses and issues surrounding payers and reimbursement. This review demonstrates IRD patients and their families have common issues including, the need for timely equitable access to genetic testing and counselling, equality in accessing employment, and a revision of the assessment process for reimbursement of therapies currently focused on the cost-of-illness to the healthcare system. This review reveals that IRD patients do not frequently engage the healthcare system and as such suggests a cost-of-illness model from a societal perspective may be a better format

    Copyright © 2013 American Physical SocietyA single-mode microcavity with an embedded Aharonov-Bohm quantum ring, which is pierced by a magnetic flux and subjected to a lateral electric field, is studied theoretically. It is shown that external electric and magnetic fields provide additional means of control of the emission spectrum of the system. In particular, when the magnetic flux through the quantum ring is equal to a half-integer number of the magnetic flux quantum, a small change in the lateral electric field allows tuning of the energy levels of the quantum ring into resonance with the microcavity mode providing an efficient way to control the quantum ring-microcavity coupling strength. Emission spectra of the system are calculated for several combinations of the applied magnetic and electric fields
