Exploiting Full-duplex Receivers for Achieving Secret Communications in Multiuser MISO Networks
We consider a broadcast channel, in which a multi-antenna transmitter (Alice)
sends confidential information signals to legitimate users (Bobs) in
the presence of eavesdroppers (Eves). Alice uses MIMO precoding to generate
the information signals along with her own (Tx-based) friendly jamming.
Interference at each Bob is removed by MIMO zero-forcing. This, however, leaves
a "vulnerability region" around each Bob, which can be exploited by a nearby
Eve. We address this problem by augmenting Tx-based friendly jamming (TxFJ)
with Rx-based friendly jamming (RxFJ), generated by each Bob. Specifically,
each Bob uses self-interference suppression (SIS) to transmit a friendly
jamming signal while simultaneously receiving an information signal over the
same channel. We minimize the powers allocated to the information, TxFJ, and
RxFJ signals under given guarantees on the individual secrecy rate for each
Bob. The problem is solved for the cases when the eavesdropper's channel state
information is known/unknown. Simulations show the effectiveness of the
proposed solution. Furthermore, we discuss how to schedule transmissions when
the rate requirements need to be satisfied on average rather than
instantaneously. Under special cases, a scheduling algorithm that serves only
the strongest receivers is shown to outperform the one that schedules all
receivers.Comment: IEEE Transactions on Communication
Ganoderma boninense Pat. from basal stem rot of oil palm (Elaeis guineensis) in Peninsular Malaysia
Several hundred sporophores of Ganoderma were collected from 5 - 40 years old palm trees infected with basal stem rot in 5 oil palm estates in Peninsular Malaysia. Based on the morphometric studies of the pores, dessepiments and basidiospores dimensions and other morphological characteristics, the sporophores were identified as belonging to a single species, G. boninense Pat
Volumetric analysis of the cranial and nasal cavity from micro-computed tomography scans in the rabbit
Background: The aim of the study was to estimate the volume values of the cranial cavity and nasal cavity structures and to compare the efficiency of manual segmentation of three-dimensional reconstruction and Cavalieri’s principle (CP) methodologies.
Materials and methods: Volume values of the cranial cavity, maxillary sinus (MS), dorsal conchal sinus (DCS), dorsal nasal meatus (DNM), middle nasal meatus (MNM), ventral nasal meatus (VNM), ventral nasal concha (VNC), middle nasal concha (MNC) and nasal vestibule (NV) were estimated with manual segmentation and CP from micro-computed tomography images in 5 male New Zealand white rabbits. Volume measurements and elapsed time were compared with each other. Three-dimensional reconstruction models of nasal and cranial cavity structures were created.
Results: There was a statistically significant difference between methods of the MS, DCS, DNM, MNM, VNM, VNC, and MNC volume measurements. Additionally, there was a statistically significant difference between the volumetric analysis time period of the methods and CP was found much shorter than manual segmentation.
Conclusions: Realistic results were achieved in a short time with the CP among the stereology methods. It is thought that these image and quantitative data results can be used for modelling, toxicology and pathology studies such as acute and chronić rhinitis or rhino sinusitis as well as a good understanding of the relationship of the anatomical structures in the nasal cavity
Project PROMETHEUS: Design and Construction of a Radio Frequency Quadrupole at TAEK
The PROMETHEUS Project is ongoing for the design and development of a 4-vane
radio frequency quadrupole (RFQ) together with its H+ ion source, a low energy
beam transport (LEBT) line and diagnostics section. The main goal of the
project is to achieve the acceleration of the low energy ions up to 1.5 MeV by
an RFQ (352 MHz) shorter than 2 meter. A plasma ion source is being developed
to produce a 20 keV, 1 mA H+ beam. Simulation results for ion source,
transmission and beam dynamics are presented together with analytical studies
performed with newly developed RFQ design code DEMIRCI. Simulation results
shows that a beam transmission 99% could be achieved at 1.7 m downstream
reaching an energy of 1.5 MeV. As the first phase an Aluminum RFQ prototype,
the so-called cold model, will be built for low power RF characterization. In
this contribution the status of the project, design considerations, simulation
results, the various diagnostics techniques and RFQ manufacturing issues are
discussed.Comment: 4 pages, 8 figures, Proceedings of the 2nd International Beam

Heterogeneity and cross-sectional dependence in panels: Heterogeneous vs. homogeneous estimators
This paper focuses on the comparison of homogeneous and heterogeneous panel data estimators, including partially heterogeneous ones, in presence of cross-sectional dependence generated by common factors and spatial error dependence. Our specifications allow us to con-sider and contrast weak cross-sectional dependence and strong cross-sectional dependence in a general linear heterogeneous panel data model. An overview of the estimation procedures, including heterogeneous, homogeneous and partially heterogeneous estimators, is presented. Then, an extensive Monte Carlo study is conducted using a general framework encompassing recent contributions in the literature especially in terms of considering common factors and spatial dependence simultaneously. Our simulation results show that, even for small individual and time dimensions, heterogeneous estimators perform better in terms of bias, root mean squared error, size and size adjusted power compared to homogeneous estimators. Last, the superiority of the heterogeneous estimators is confirmed by an empirical application relating fiscal decentralization and government size in 22 OECD countries over the period 1973-2017
Size-controlled conformal nanofabrication of biotemplated three-dimensional TiO2 and ZnO nanonetworks
Cataloged from PDF version of article.A solvent-free fabrication of TiO2 and ZnO nanonetworks is demonstrated by using supramolecular nanotemplates with high coating conformity, uniformity, and atomic scale size control. Deposition of TiO2 and ZnO on three-dimensional nanofibrous network template is accomplished. Ultrafine control over nanotube diameter allows robust and systematic evaluation of the electrochemical properties of TiO2 and ZnO nanonetworks in terms of size-function relationship. We observe hypsochromic shift in UV absorbance maxima correlated with decrease in wall thickness of the nanotubes. Photocatalytic activities of anatase TiO2 and hexagonal wurtzite ZnO nanonetworks are found to be dependent on both the wall thickness and total surface area per unit of mass. Wall thickness has effect on photoexcitation properties of both TiO2 and ZnO due to band gap energies and total surface area per unit of mass. The present work is a successful example that concentrates on nanofabrication of intact three-dimensional semiconductor nanonetworks with controlled band gap energies
Automatically generating streamlined constraint models with ESSENCE and CONJURE
Streamlined constraint reasoning is the addition of uninferred constraints to a constraint model to reduce the search space, while retaining at least one solution. Previously, effective streamlined models have been constructed by hand, requiring an expert to examine closely solutions to small instances of a problem class and identify regularities. We present a system that automatically generates many conjectured regularities for a given Essence specification of a problem class by examining the domains of decision variables present in the problem specification. These conjectures are evaluated independently and in conjunction with one another on a set of instances from the specified class via an automated modelling tool-chain comprising of Conjure, Savile Row and Minion. Once the system has identified effective conjectures they are used to generate streamlined models that allow instances of much larger scale to be solved. Our results demonstrate good models can be identified for problems in combinatorial design, Ramsey theory, graph theory and group theory - often resulting in order of magnitude speed-ups.Postprin
Ion-Pairing Limits Crystal Growth in Metal-Oxygen Batteries
Aprotic alkali metal-oxygen batteries are widely considered to be promising
high specific energy alternatives to Li-ion batteries. The growth and
dissolution of alkali metal oxides such as Li2O2 in Li-O2 batteries and NaO2
and KO2 in Na- and K-O2 batteries, respectively, is central to the discharge
and charge processes in these batteries. However, crystal growth and
dissolution of the discharge products, especially in aprotic electrolytes, is
poorly understood. In this work, we chose the growth of NaO2 in Na-O2 batteries
as a model system and show that there is a strong correlation between the
electrolyte salt concentration and the NaO2 crystal size. With a combination of
experiments and theory, we argue that the correlation is a direct manifestation
of the strong cation-anion interactions leading to decreased crystal growth
rate at high salt concentrations. Further, we propose and experimentally
demonstrate that cation-coordinating crown molecules are suitable
electrochemically stable electrolyte additives that weaken ion-pairing and
enhance discharge capacities in metal-oxygen batteries while not negatively
affecting their rechargeability.Comment: 13 Pages, 4 Figures, 14 pages of Supplementary Informatio
Forward Neutron Production at the Fermilab Main Injector
We have measured cross sections for forward neutron production from a variety
of targets using proton beams from the Fermilab Main Injector. Measurements
were performed for proton beam momenta of 58 GeV/c, 84 GeV/c, and 120 GeV/c.
The cross section dependence on the atomic weight (A) of the targets was found
to vary as where is for a beam momentum of
58 GeV/c and 0.540.05 for 120 GeV/c. The cross sections show reasonable
agreement with FLUKA and DPMJET Monte Carlos. Comparisons have also been made
with the LAQGSM Monte Carlo.Comment: Accepted for publication in Physical Review D. This version
incorporates small changes suggested by referee and small corrections in the
neutron production cross sections predicted by FLUK
Measurement of Charged Pion Production Yields off the NuMI Target
The fixed-target MIPP experiment, Fermilab E907, was designed to measure the
production of hadrons from the collisions of hadrons of momenta ranging from 5
to 120 GeV/c on a variety of nuclei. These data will generally improve the
simulation of particle detectors and predictions of particle beam fluxes at
accelerators. The spectrometer momentum resolution is between 3 and 4%, and
particle identification is performed for particles ranging between 0.3 and 80
GeV/c using , time-of-flight and Cherenkov radiation measurements. MIPP
collected events of 120 GeV Main Injector protons striking a
target used in the NuMI facility at Fermilab. The data have been analyzed and
we present here charged pion yields per proton-on-target determined in bins of
longitudinal and transverse momentum between 0.5 and 80 GeV/c, with combined
statistical and systematic relative uncertainties between 5 and 10%.Comment: 15 pages, 13 figure
