Phase diagram of the Kondo necklace: a mean-field renormalization group approach
In this paper we investigate the magnetic properties of heavy fermions in the
antiferromagnetic and dense Kondo phases in the framework of the Kondo necklace
model. We use a mean field renormalization group approach to obtain a
temperature versus Kondo coupling phase diagram for this model in
qualitative agreement with Doniach's diagram, proposed on physical grounds. We
further analyze the magnetically disordered phase using a two-sites approach.
We calculate the correlation functions and the magnetic susceptibility that
allow to identify the crossover between the spin-liquid and the local moment
regimes, which occurs at a {\em coherence} temperature.Comment: 5 figure
Magnetic Ordering and Superconductivity in the REIrGe (RE = Y, La-Tm, Lu) System
We find that the compounds for RE = Y, La-Dy, crystallize in the tetragonal
Ibam (UCoSi type) structure whereas the compounds for RE = Er-Lu,
crystallize in a new orthorhombic structure with a space group Pmmn. Samples of
HoIrGe were always found to be multiphase. The compounds for RE = Y
to Dy which adopt the Ibam type structure show a metallic resistivity whereas
the compounds with RE = Er, Tm and Lu show an anomalous behavior in the
resistivity with a semiconducting increase in as we go down in
temperature from 300K. Interestingly we had earlier found a positive
temperature coefficient of resistivity for the Yb sample in the same
temperature range. We will compare this behavior with similar observations in
the compounds RERuGe and REBiPt. LaIrGe and
YIrGe show bulk superconductivity below 1.8K and 2.5K respectively.
Our results confirm that CeIrGe shows a Kondo lattice behavior and
undergoes antiferromagnetic ordering below 8.5K. Most of the other compounds
containing magnetic rare-earth elements undergo a single antiferromagnetic
transition at low temperatures (T12K) while GdIrGe,
DyIrGe and NdIrGe show multiple transitions. The
T's for most of the compounds roughly scale with the de Gennes factor.
which suggests that the chief mechanism of interaction leading to the magnetic
ordering of the magnetic moments may be the RKKY interaction.Comment: 25 pages, 16 figure
Kondo-lattice model: Application to the temperature-dependent electronic structure of EuO(100) films
We present calculations for the temperature-dependent electronic structure
and magnetic properties of thin ferromagnetic EuO films. The treatment is based
on a combination of a multiband-Kondo lattice model with first-principles
TB-LMTO band structure calculations. The method avoids the problem of
double-counting of relevant interactions and takes into account the correct
symmetry of the atomic orbitals. We discuss the temperature-dependent
electronic structures of EuO(100) films in terms of quasiparticle densities of
states and quasiparticle band structures. The Curie temperature T_C of the EuO
films turns out to be strongly thickness-dependent, starting from a very low
value = 15K for the monolayer and reaching the bulk value at about 25 layers

Cles is an evolution code recently developed to produce stellar models
meeting the specific requirements of studies in asteroseismology. It offers the
users a lot of choices in the input physics they want in their models and its
versatility allows them to tailor the code to their needs and implement easily
new features. We describe the features implemented in the current version of
the code and the techniques used to solve the equations of stellar structure
and evolution. A brief account is given of the use of the program and of a

Superconductivity in Ce- and U-based "122" heavy-fermion compounds
This review discusses the heavy-fermion superconductivity in Ce- and U-based
compounds crystallizing in the body-centered tetragonal ThCr2Si2 structure.
Special attention will be paid to the theoretical background of these systems

Theoretical amplitudes and lifetimes of non-radial solar-like oscillations in red giants
Solar-like oscillations have been observed in numerous red giants from ground
and from space. An important question arises: could we expect to detect
non-radial modes probing the internal structure of these stars? We investigate
under what physical circumstances non-radial modes could be observable in red
giants; what would be their amplitudes, lifetimes and heights in the power
spectrum (PS)? Using a non-radial non-adiabatic pulsation code including a
non-local time-dependent treatment of convection, we compute the theoretical
lifetimes of radial and non-radial modes in several red giant models. Next,
using a stochastic excitation model, we compute the amplitudes of these modes
and their heights in the PS. Very distinct results are found depending on the

UV continuum emission and diagnostics of hydrogen-containing non-equilibrium plasmas
For the first time the emission of the radiative dissociation continuum of
the hydrogen molecule ( electronic
transition) is proposed to be used as a source of information for the
spectroscopic diagnostics of non-equilibrium plasmas. The detailed analysis of
excitation-deactivation kinetics, rate constants of various collisional and
radiative transitions and fitting procedures made it possible to develop two
new methods of diagnostics of: (1) the ground state
vibrational temperature from the relative intensity
distribution, and (2) the rate of electron impact dissociation
(d[\mbox{H_{2}}]/dt)_{\text{diss}} from the absolute intensity of the
continuum. A known method of determination of from relative
intensities of Fulcher- bands was seriously corrected and simplified
due to the revision of transition probabilities and cross sections of
electron impact excitation. General considerations are illustrated
with examples of experiments in pure hydrogen capillary-arc and H+Ar
