The Teacher: another Variable in the Use of Foreign Language Learning Strategies?
The Bologna process aims to create the European Higher Education Framework (EHEF) by making
academic degree and quality assurance standards more comparable and compatible throughout Europe.
The EHEF has different implications for university students, representing a change in emphasis from
‘teaching’ to ‘learning’, from a teacher-centred approach to a student-centred approach.
In the last thirty years, researchers have discussed the role of teachers and students in the language
learning-teaching process. Until then, the acquisition of a foreign language was focused on the teacher’s
methodology. In the 80s and 90s, a series of student-centred approaches emerged, with the aim of making
students more autonomous and independent in their learning.
Language learning strategies are part of the tools used to improve language learning. There are
different definitions and taxonomies of language learning strategies (Chamot (2001), Cohen (1998),
Oxford (1990), O'Malley (1990) and Wenden & Rubin (1987) and there have been extensive descriptive
studies on the different variables affecting the use of learning strategies including gender, previous
linguistic knowledge, motivation, learning styles and/or second language versus foreign language
acquisition.
This paper aims to explore the instructor’s conscious or unconscious influence students’ use of
learning strategies. To undertake this study, a group of teachers was asked to assess the 50 strategies
presented in an adapted version of the Strategies Inventory Language Learning (Oxford 1990) according
to their suitability and practicality for their students. The participants were lecturers from the French and
English Department at Cádiz University. The languages included in the study were English, French and
German for specific and general purposes
Specialized languages at Cádiz Business School until 1952
Globalization is nowadays presented as one of the reasons for the importance
of languages to develop business related professions. This study illustrates that since late 18th
century there was interest in training people with knowledge of languages and more
specifically specialized languages in the area of trade. This fact is evident in the syllabuses of
the subjects in the different curricula of Commerce studies, which are preserved in the Archivo
de la Universidad de Cádiz
Osmium-mediated direct C–H bond activation at the 8-position of quinolines
Metal-mediated direct C–H bond activation at the 8-position of quinolines, which is the essential step for the functionalization of this bond, is promoted by the hexahydride OsH6(PiPr3)2. This complex activates quinoline and 2-, 3-, 6-, and 7-methylquinoline to afford the classical trihydride derivatives OsH3{κ2-C8,N-(quinolinyl)}(PiPr3)2 and OsH3{κ2-C8,N-(quinolinyl-n-Me)}(PiPr3)2 (n = 2, 3, 6, 7), containing a four-membered heterometalla ring.Financial support from the MINECO of Spain (Projects CTQ2014-52799-P and CTQ2014-51912-REDC), the Diputación General de Aragón (E-35), FEDER, and the European Social Fund is acknowledged.Peer reviewe
Comprehension and scopes of the education in democratic values in the law programs, from the perspective of diversity and pluralism /

The Role of Women in Business English Textbooks (1970s-2010s)
Business English textbooks help students learn not only the language used in the
world of business but also about the organizational structure of different companies
as well as interaction in the workplace. This research examines the evolution of the
professional role of women in Business English textbooks in the last fifty years. For
this purpose, we analyzed thirty-five Business English textbooks published between
the 1970s and the 2010s. Firstly, we recorded the different jobs done by women
included in these books and classified them in four different occupational groups:
managers, professionals, technicians, and clerks. As expected, the number of jobs
held by women in these textbooks gradually increased over time although there has
been likewise a remarkable decrease in clerical jobs as managerial and professional
jobs experienced a simultaneous increase; the incidence of female technicians was
consistently low. Regarding female representation in textbook pictures, whereas in
the 1970s women were depicted in traditional female roles, we can observe how
they are progressively portrayed in managerial positions. Furthermore, their
visibility in general increased noticeably over the years. On the other hand, the
representation of actual businesswomen in textbooks as case studies or part of
reading comprehension exercises is quite limited
