Corporate criminal liability in Sweden
Swedish criminal law does not allow for corporate criminal liability as it is built on the
basic principle of personal criminal liability, meaning that only private individuals are
considered able to possess criminal liability and consequently commit crimes. However, a
corporation may be subject to corporate fines and other sanctions if a crime has been committed
during the corporationâs operations. Corporate fines are the closest equivalent to
corporate criminal liability under Swedish law, which sole purposes is punitive although it
has been deemed impossible to categorize corporate fines as a punishment in the strictest
sense. This article will further explain the design of corporate fines today, the problems
resulting from corporations not being able to possess criminal liability as well as the proposed
changes to corporate fines from a critical perspective

The benefits of the open source development model have been proven by the test of time; however, making this development model economically feasible can be challenging. In this article, Monty Widenius puts forth a suggestion for a new type of license, which is the result of the lessons learned from decades of work on open source, both as programmer and entrepreneur. The result, âbusiness sourceâ, is a license that seeks to enable a business model that can both harness the benefits of open source while generating sufficient income for the programâs continued development. The business source license automatically changes terms after a given period: an initial non-open source license with specific usage restrictions that transforms to a fully open source license on a specific future date. In this article, we contribute a proposal for a novel license, a set of recommendations for managers, and a sample text of a business source license. This work will be of relevance to four main groups: i) those developing or managing a closed source program but who are interested in the benefits open source offers; ii) those managing open core programs; iii) projects in development; and iv) investors interested in funding open source projects

Offshell effects in electromagnetic reactions on the deuteron
Offshell contributions to the electromagnetic nuclear current are evaluated
within a nonrelativistic approach by incorporation one-pion loop contributions
in time-ordered perturbation theory. By construction, the correct experimental
onshell properties of the nucleon current are ensured so that only the genuine
offshell effects appear as model dependent. For a qualitative assessment of
such offshell effects, this model is applied to photodisintegration of the
deuteron for photon energies up to 500 MeV. While at low energies offshell
contributions are small, above 300 MeV they lead to sizeable effects in
observables up to about 30 percent pointing to the necessity of incorporating
such effects if one aims at theoretical predictions of high precision.Comment: 22 pages revtex including 17 figure
First detection of methanol towards a post-AGB object, HD101584
The circumstellar environments of objects on the asymptotic giant branch and
beyond are rich in molecular species. Nevertheless, methanol has never been
detected in such an object, and is therefore often taken as a clear signpost
for a young stellar object. However, we report the first detection of CH3OH in
a post-AGB object, HD101584, using ALMA. Its emission, together with emissions
from CO, SiO, SO, CS, and H2CO, comes from two extreme velocity spots on either
side of the object where a high-velocity outflow appears to interact with the
surrounding medium. We have derived molecular abundances, and propose that the
detected molecular species are the effect of a post-shock chemistry where
circumstellar grains play a role. We further provide evidence that HD101584 was
a low-mass, M-type AGB star
ENSO Controls Interannual Fire Activity in Southeast Australia
El NiñoâSouthern Oscillation (ENSO) is the main mode controlling the variability in the ocean-atmosphere system in the South Pacific. While the ENSO influence on rainfall regimes in the South Pacific is well documented, its role in driving spatiotemporal trends in fire activity in this region has not been rigorously investigated. This is particularly the case for the highly flammable and densely populated southeast Australian sector, where ENSO is a major control over climatic variability. Here we conduct the first region-wide analysis of how ENSO controls fire activity in southeast Australia. We identify a significant relationship between ENSO and both fire frequency and area burnt. Critically, wavelet analyses reveal that despite substantial temporal variability in the ENSO system, ENSO exerts a persistent and significant influence on southeast Australian fire activity. Our analysis has direct application for developing robust predictive capacity for the increasingly important efforts at fire management
Monitoring the change in colour of meat: A comparison of traditional and kernel-based orthogonal transformations
Currently, no objective method exists for estimating the rate of change in the colour of meat. Consequently, the purpose of this work is to develop a procedure capable of monitoring the change in colour of meat over time, environment and ingredients. This provides a useful tool to determine which storage environments and ingredients a manufacturer should add to meat to reduce the rate of change in colour. The procedure consists of taking multi-spectral images of a piece of meat as a function of time, clustering the pixels of these images into categories, including several types of meat, and extracting colour information from each category. The focus has primarily been on achieving an accurate categorisation since this is crucial to develop a useful method. The categorisation is done by applying an orthogonal transformation followed by k-means clustering. The purpose of the orthogonal transformation is to reduce the noise and amount of data while enhancing the difference between the categories. The orthogonal transformations principal components analysis, minimum noise fraction analysis and kernel-based versions of these have been applied to test which produce the most accurate categorisation
Tubular carbonate concretions as hydrocarbon migration pathways? Examples from North Island, New Zealand
Cold seep carbonate deposits are associated with the development on the sea floor of distinctive chemosynÂŹthetic animal communities and carbonate mineraliÂŹsation as a consequence of microbially mediated anaerobic oxidation of methane. Several possible sources of the methane exist, identifiable from the carbon isotope values of the carbonate precipitates. In the modern, seep carbonates can occur on the sea floor above petroleum reservoirs where an important origin can be from ascending thermogenic hydrocarÂŹbons. The character of geological structures marking the ascent pathways from deep in the subsurface to shallow subsurface levels are poorly understood, but one such structure resulting from focused fluid flow may be tubular carbonate concretions.
Several mudrock-dominated Cenozoic (especially Miocene) sedimentary formations in the North Island of New Zealand include carbonate concretions having a wide range of tubular morphologies. The concretions are typically oriented at high angles to bedding, and often have a central conduit that is either empty or filled with late stage cements. Stable isotope analyses (ÎŽ13C, ÎŽ18O) suggest that the carbonate cements in the concretions precipitated mainly from ascending methane, likely sourced from a mixture of deep thermogenic and shallow biogenic sources. A clear link between the tubular concretions and overlying paleo-sea floor seep-carbonate deposits exists at some sites.
We suggest that the tubular carbonate concretions mark the subsurface plumbing network of cold seep systems. When exposed and accessible in outcrop, they afford an opportunity to investigate the geochemical evolution of cold seeps, and possibly also the nature of linkages between subsurface and surface portions of such a system. Seep field development has implications for the characterisation of fluid flow in sedimentary basins, for the global carbon cycle, for exerting a biogeochemical influence on the development of marine communities, and for the evaluation of future hydrocarbon resources, recovery, and drilling and production hazards. These matters remain to be fully assessed within a petroleum systems framework for New Zealandâs Cenozoic sedimentary basins
