Landscapes of Affective Interaction: Young Children's Enactive Engagement with Body Metaphors

Empirical research into embodied meaning making suggests specific sensorimotor experiences can support children’s understanding of abstract science ideas. This view is aligned with enactive and grounded cognition perspectives, both centred in the view that our ability to conceptualise emerges from our experiences of interaction with our environment. While much of this research has focused on understanding action and action processes in individual children or children in pairs, less attention has been paid to affective dimensions of young children’s group interaction, and how this relates to meaning making with body metaphors. Indeed, Gallagher describes how no action exists in a vacuum, but rather revolves around a complex web of affective-pragmatic features comprising a ‘Landscape of Interaction’ (2020, p.42). This research project addresses gaps in research in understanding young children’s affective engagement from an enactivist cognition perspective. It takes a Design-Based Research approach with an iterative design orientation to examine young children’s interaction with multisensory body-based metaphors through an embodied participation framework. A series of empirical studies with young children, aged 2-7 years, comprising of experiential workshops, build iteratively upon each other. A novel theoretically informed method, Affective Imagination in Motion, is developed involving several purpose-built multisensory body metaphors prompts to enable access to dimensions of young children’s affective engagement. This research makes theoretical and methodological contributions. It extends the theoretical notion of ‘affect’ from enactive and grounded cognition perspectives through identifying key interactive processes in young children’s engagement with multisensory action metaphors. In addition, the novel method offers a contribution as a way of ‘looking’ at affect within a group situation from affective-pragmatic and social embodiment perspectives. Finally, the research contributes to embodied learning design frameworks offering a guideline for designers wishing to inform their work from enactive cognition perspective

The role of embodied scaffolding in revealing “enactive potentialities” in intergenerational science exploration

Although adults are known to play an important role in young children's development, little work has focused on the enactive features of scaffolding in informal learning settings, and the embodied dynamics of intergenerational interaction. To address this gap, this paper undertakes a microinteractional analysis to examine intergenerational collaborative interaction in a science museum setting. The paper presents a fine-grained moment-by-moment analysis of video-recorded interaction of children and their adult carers around science-themed objects. Taking an enactive cognition perspective, the analysis enables access to subtle shifts in interactants’ perception, action, gesture, and movement to examine how young children engage with exhibits, and the role adult action plays in supporting young children's engagement with exhibits and developing ideas about science. Our findings demonstrate that intergenerational “embodied scaffolding” is instrumental in making “enactive potentialities” in the environment more accessible for children, thus deepening and enriching children's engagement with science. Adult action is central to revealing scientific dimensions of objects’ interaction and relationships in ways that expose novel types of perception and action opportunities in shaping science experiences and meaning making. This has implications for science education practices since it foregrounds not only “doing” science, through active hands-on activities, but also speaks to the interconnectedness between senses and the role of the body in thinking. Drawing on the findings, this paper also offers design implications for informal science learning environments

Opinnäytetyössä tarkasteltiin osastonsihteereiden perehdyttämisen sen hetkistä tilaa sekä kartoitettiin perehdytettyjen osastonsihteereiden näkemystä perehdyttämiseen. Henkilöstöviestintä hajautetussa organisaatiossa

Opinnäytetyön tavoitteena oli kuvata, miten tärkeää onnistunut henkilöstöviestintä on työn tekemiselle ja organisaation toiminnalle. Henkilöstöviestintä on organisaation johdon viestintää henkilöstölle työhön liittyvistä asioista ja se on kaiken työpaikalla tapahtuvan toiminnan ydin. Ilman henkilöstöviestintää organisaatio ei pysty toimimaan. Uudet viestintävälineet ja uudenlaiset, ajasta ja paikasta riippumattomat tavat tehdä työtä haastavat henkilöstöviestinnän. Nykyään yksi haastajista on hajautettu työskentely. Hajautetussa työskentelyssä työyhteisön tai tiimin jäsenet työskentelevät fyysisesti eri paikoissa joko kokonaan tai osittain. Hajautetun työskentelyn henkilöstöviestintä vaatii esimieheltä uudenlaista ajattelutapaa johtamiseen ja viestintään. Hajautetun tiimin viestinnässä erilaisten teknologisten viestintävälineiden monipuolinen hyödyntäminen on tärkeää. Opinnäytetyön tutkimus toteutettiin määrällisin menetelmin. Aineistonkeruumenetelmänä toimi strukturoitu kyselylomake. Kysely tehtiin neuvola-, koulu- ja opiskelijaterveydenhuollon toimialueen työntekijöille. Tutkimus antoi hyvän kuvan tutkittavan toimialueen henkilöstöviestinnästä. Pääsääntöisesti henkilöstöviestinnän koettiin olevan hyvä ja käytössä olevat viestintävälineet koettiin toimiviksi työhön liittyvien asioiden hoitoon. Hajasijoitettuna työskentely oli kuitenkin vaikuttanut heikentävästi tiimien yhteisöllisyyteen ja vuorovaikutukseen

Interaktiv rättsvetenskap : En antologi

I antologin ”Interaktiv rättsvetenskap” avhandlas rättsvetenskapens möten med andra vetenskapliga kunskapsområden. I nio artiklar diskuteras och analyseras problem och möjligheter som kan uppstå vid sådana möten och hur de kan hanteras med bibehållen rättsvetenskaplig integritet. Författarna är erfarna forskare inom allmän rättslära, civilrätt, konstitutionell rätt, lagstiftningsforskning, miljörätt och rättshistoria. Boken är i första hand avsedd för forskare och forskarstuderande med intresse för metodutveckling inom ramen för sina forskningsprojekt, men den har även en vidare betydelse för juridikens utveckling. Antologin har skrivits inom ramen för ett samarbetsprojekt mellan juridiska fakulteterna i Uppsala och Åbo
