The Effect of Risk Factors on the Resilience of Industrial Equipmen

    Get PDF
Recently, to evaluate the response of systems against disruptive events, the application of the resilience concept has been increased. Resilience depicts the system’s ability to return to its normal operational status after the disruption. Various studies in the field of engineering and non-engineering systems have only considered systems’ performance indicators to estimate resilience. Therefore, the impact of operating and environmental factors (risk factors) has been neglected. In this paper, the influence of the risk factors (rock type), as well as the system’s performance indicators, are considered in the resilience estimation of the excavator system of Gol-E-Gohar Iron mine

Stress In Academic Life Of Pharmacy Students: Psychophysiological Assessment Via Cardiovascular Reactivity Experiment

    Get PDF
Research of stress and cardiovascular reactivity (CVR) is one of the pillars in the health care system. It enhances the understanding of human behavior towards daily challenges and needs. It goes further to anticipate precursor risk factors of future cardiovascular disease (CVD). Behavioral or psychological stress is one of many factors that could contribute to the development of essential hypertension (HT) in susceptible individuals. Excessive stress in academic life affects all the students and de-motivates them for gaining higher performance. Specific types of stress are assessed psychologically (by questionnaires), while total affecting stress is assessed physiologically (by the aid of CVR-stress experiments). Two purposes were behind developing the Stress in Academic Life Scale (SALS) in this study: measuring stress, and identifying stressors that interfere with students’ life and their academic achievement. CVR-stress experiment was employed to get clear evaluation of the role of academic stress on the general stress of pharmacy students. For a period of six months, data was collected through participation of a total of 488 students in validation of SALS as well as being part of the physiological CVR-stress experiment

Introduction: In December 2019, a novel corona virus disease was identified and was responsible for the new cases of respiratory tract infections in Wuhan, China. This virus was responsible for the pandemic with more than 84 million cases and 1.82 million deaths worldwide. In Sudan till now the reported cases exceed 23,000 with 1.400 deaths. This study aims to determine the prevalence of COVID_19 suspected cases, health seeking behavior and public adherence to protective measures. Methods: Descriptive community based cross sectional study, conducted in Khartoum state 2020. 3499 respondents with diverse socio-demographic backgrounds were finally enrolled in the study. Data was collected through Manitoba Corona Virus 2019 screening form which distributed through online anonymous Google forms. Data was entered and analyzed by Statistical Package of Social Sciences version 23. Results: The study revealed that 26.5% of the respondents were clinically suspected. with headache or fatigability being the most common symptom followed by pharyngitis and then dry cough.  Asthma and chronic respiratory disease as the commonest comorbidities. Wearing facial masks and regular hand washing were found to be the most used protective measures with only 39.4% implicates social distancing in their daily life. Health seeking behavior was significantly different among suspected respondents the majority tend to use antibiotics than to isolate themselves or undergo testing. Conclusion: COVID_19 suspected cases were prevalent among Sudanese population, screening capacity has to be increased with more strong policies for implications of personal protective measures in the daily life.   &nbsp

Comparison between VG-levy and Kernel function estimation with application

In this article, we present the variance Gamma Levy model that was obtained from the Brownian motion Gamma with their parameter estimation methods (Maximum Likelihood (MLE) and method of moments (MME)). Then, we compare them with Kernel density function depending on MASE. Our application concerned with the Apple company that is listed on the Nasdaq, their data are suitable for the VG-Levy model and achieved the proper conditions of Levy of stability and independence, which means that Apple company was efficient in providing the information to investors. The aim of studying the price fluctuations through the parameters of the model and thus the possibility of knowing the trends of stock prices in the financial markets and the consequent risks associated with investing in them in a manner consistent with the investor's preferences regarding bearing a certain degree of risk in the sense of a pre-preparedness for the potential sacrifice of the investor's capital with the limits of risk resulting from those fluctuations in prices for the returns resulting from price movements in those markets., So it was found that the VG-levy model with MLE is the best

Background: Accidents exposing to blood AEB represent real public health problem in healthcare establishments. The objective of our study was to estimate the frequency of AEB As at our establishment as well as the risk factors that determine their occurrence. Patients and Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive survey was conducted at a hospital university establishment over period from October 16 to December 3, 2018. The survey concerned accident exposing blood to the staff of our establishment. Data entry and analysis was carried out using Epi-Info software. Results: A clear predominance of women was noted (79.2%) among the study population with a Sex ratio equal to 0.26. The average age was 27.7 ± 6.2 years. The frequency of exposure to AEB among hospital staff was 48.5%. Needlestick injuries were the most common accident (88.3%), followed by splashing blood or body fluids (51.7%), and cutting with a sharp object (10.0%). Among the risk factors significantly associated with the occurrence of AEB, we can cite the medical profession (OR = 3.94; p<0.001), the surgical specialty (OR = 3.3; p <0.01), the male sex (OR = 3.7; p <0.01). Likewise, risk of AEB increased significantly with age (p <0.01) and professional seniority (p <0.02). Keywords: Accidents exposing blood; hospital staff; Algeria

OBJECTIVE: Osteoporosis (OP) is a worldwide ailment; we aim to establish new biomarkers in diagnosis by determining the levels of serum osteocalcin and osteopontin along with bone mineral density (BMD) and lumbar T-score, in postmenopausal women with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) with or without OP. METHODS: This observational study included 160 postmenopausal women who were an attendee at outpatient clinics in Al-Hussein Hospital, Thi-Qar province; subdivided into 3 groups based on their T-score testing: Group I (n = 40) comprised postmenopausal women without T2DM as controls, Group II (n = 60) comprised postmenopausal women with T2DM but without OP, and Group III (n = 60) comprised postmenopausal women with T2DM with OP. The dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry was used to measure the BMD (total body, lumbar spine, and femoral) and T-score for lumbar spine and femoral. Glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c), fasting blood glucose (FBG), osteocalcin, and osteopontin levels were assessed in all three groups. RESULTS: Compared with controls, Group III demonstrated significantly lower BMD (total body, lumbar spine, and femoral), T-score for lumbar spine and femoral, serum osteocalcin, and osteopontin levels than Group II and Group I (P < 0.001). FBG and HbA1c levels were significantly higher in Group III than in Groups I and II (P < 0.001). A negative correlation was proved between HbA1c levels with BMD, osteocalcin levels, and osteopontin levels in the three groups. CONCLUSIONS: Iraqi postmenopausal women with T2DM had a significantly lower bone mineral density, serum osteocalcin, and osteopontin levels. These results may serve as adjuvants in screening for OP, particularly among diabetic patients

A new method to calculate mathematical morphology using associative memory and cellular learning automata

    Get PDF
Abstract: The methods presented in this paper include using auto-associative memory which can be defined as a supervised organizing method which is a specific type of h-sorting which is compatible with the morphologic operators over multi-variables data. Mathematical morphologies for multi-variable images require appropriate sort descriptions that allow us to define and use primitive morphologies operators without any wrong results such as wrong color. All the required calculations are defined with lattice algebra (+,^ and ∨); therefore, the proposed method will be faster with less computation overhead than the previous methods. This method does not use any assumptions of the stochastic process which means that this method is independent of the model. The presented method uses cellular learning automata which results in fewer errors than the mathematical methods due to the feedback from the network
