Model-independent Study of Electric Dipole Transitions in Quarkonium

The paper contains a systematic, model-independent treatment of electric dipole (E1) transitions in heavy quarkonium. Within the effective field theory framework of potential non-relativistic QCD (pNRQCD), we derive the complete set of relativistic corrections of relative order v^2 both for weakly and strongly-coupled quarkonia. The result supports and complements former results from potential model calculations.Comment: 42 pages, 9 figure

In this work we probe the Born-Infeld (BI) black hole in the isolated horizon framework. It turns out that the BI black hole is consistent with the heuristic model for colored black holes proposed by Ashtekar et al [(2001) Class.Quant.Grav. v. 18, 919-940]. The model points to the unstability of the BI black hole.Comment: 4 pages, 5 figure

Preferential sites for intramolecular glucosepane cross-link formation in type I collagen: A thermodynamic study

    Get PDF
The extracellular matrix (ECM) undergoes progressive age-related stiffening and loss of proteolytic digestibility due to an increase in concentration of advanced glycation end products (AGEs). The most abundant AGE, glucosepane, accumulates in collagen with concentrations over 100 times greater than all other AGEs. Detrimental collagen stiffening properties are believed to play a significant role in several age-related diseases such as osteoporosis and cardiovascular disease. Currently little is known of the potential location of covalently cross-linked glucosepane formation within collagen molecules; neither are there reports on how the respective cross-link sites affect the physical and biochemical properties of collagen. Using fully atomistic molecular dynamics simulations (MD) we have identified six sites where the formation of a covalent intra-molecular glucosepane cross-link within a single collagen molecule in a fibrillar environment is energetically favourable. Identification of these favourable sites enables us to align collagen cross-linking with experimentally observed changes to the ECM. For example, formation of glucosepane was found to be energetically favourable within close proximity of the Matrix Metalloproteinase-1 (MMP1) binding site, which could potentially disrupt collagen degradation.fals

The dams have very important roles to agricultural activities. Especially, West Java with 240,000 hectares of agricultural land, needs a good dam structure that can be used sustainably. Jatiluhur dam in Purwakarta, West Java is one of big dams in Indonesia which has important rules not only for Purwakarta but also for Jakarta, Karawang and Bekasi residents. A study and observation about safety and dam stability is needed to prevent any damage. The purpose of this research were to identify parameters that influenced dam safety and to evaluate dam reliability based on index tools. Analysis was done using risk index tools. The result showed that the condition of the dam of Jatiluhur is still satisfied with indicators, "Idam"-750. The total index risk was 127.22 and the safety factor was 83.04 out of 100. Therefore, Jatiluhur dam could be classified as safe and no need for particular treatments. Jatiluhur dam can be operated in normal condition or abnormal condition with periodic monitoring

Factors Associated With Overweight/obesity Among Adults In Urban Indonesia

Overweight/obesity is increasing in developing countries, including Indonesia, being more prevalent in urban than rural areas. Understanding about associated factors of overweight/obesity is important for intervention purposes. The study objective was to assess factors associated with overweight/obesity in urban Indonesians. This cross-sectional study involved primary data collection among 864 adults aged 18-45 years in five major urban cities of Indonesia. Weight, height, waist and hip circumference were measured, and overweight/obesity was defined as BMI>25 kg/m2. Factors associated to overweight/obesity was ellicited by logistic regression. The study showed that proportion of overweight/obesity was significantly higher among women than men (42.8% and 29.2%). Median total energy intake was 1974 kcal/day, and median fat intake was high (75.3 g; 25th-75th percentile: 49.6-109.4 g). More than 70 percent of subjects consumed high energy dense food/beverages often. Only around 27 percent of the subjects had high intensity physical activity/PA level and more than 50 percent spent >6 hours using TV/computer, indicating low PA level. After adjusting for confounders, often consumption of high energy dense food consistenly showed association, although not signficant, with overweight/obesity. Moreover, men with higher sedentary activities indicated by TV/computer USAge >6 hours/day and women with less days of performing vigorous PA had 1.4 and 3 times higher odds to become overweight/obese, respectively. Thus, overweight/obesity prevention should focus on reduction of consumption of high-dense energy food, including fat intake; coupled with increasing PA level by having more days of vigourous recreational PA and reduction of TV/computer USAge, especially among married older urban adult

This study aims to analyze policy of Padang city administration in overcoming and developing street children. This qualitative descriptive research is located in the city of Padang, West Sumatra Province, Indonesia. The findings of this study indicate that street children activities around Padang's Bagindo Azis Chan Street lasted on average six to twelve hours per day. The street children sell brooms, clean the windshield during rainy days, clean windshield using feather dusters, and sing. Most of the street children are no longer in school. Those who do not live with their parents tend to drop out of school. The average street children in the area confirm to have families with permanent residence in Padang area, but not all of them settle down with their family. The Padang city admnistration have trained and provided capital assistance for street children and their parents but is not yet sustainable while the funding can not afford to start adequate business

No correlation between amylase/trypsin-inhibitor content and amylase inhibitory activity in hexaploid and tetraploid wheat species

    Get PDF
Wheat amylase/trypsin-inhibitors (ATI) are known triggers for wheat-related disorders. The aims of our study were to determine (1) the inhibitory activity against different α-amylases, (2) the content of albumins and globulins (ALGL) and total ATI and (3) to correlate these parameters in wholegrain flour of hexaploid, tetraploid and diploid wheat species. The amount of ATI within the ALGL fraction varied from 0.8% in einkorn to 20% in spelt. ATI contents measured with reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC) revealed similar contents (1.2–4.2 mg/g) compared to the results determined by LC-MS/MS (0.2–5.2 mg/g) for all wheat species except einkorn. No correlation was found between ALGL content and inhibitory activity. In general, hexaploid cultivars of spelt and common wheat had the highest inhibitory activities, showing values between 897 and 3564 AIU/g against human salivary α-amylase. Tetraploid wheat species durum and emmer had lower activities (170–1461 AIU/g), although a few emmer cultivars showed similar activities at one location. In einkorn, no inhibitory activity was found. No correlation was observed between the ATI content and the inhibitory activity against the used α-amylases, highlighting that it is very important to look at the parameters separately
