Islamic calligraphy in contemporary art of Malaysia / Nor Azlin Hamidon

This research entitled Islamic Calligraphy in Contemporary Art of Malaysia contribute to the most neglected area in the development of the history of art of Malaysia. The combination of three different traditions – Islam, Malay and Western traditions had made significant marks on the form, content and context of the Islamic calligraphy in the Contemporary Art of Malaysia. The objectives of this study are firstly to document contemporary art works of Malaysia that constitutes of Islamic calligraphy. Secondly, is to establish the styles through formal analysis, in terms of its size, medium, techniques, orientation, shape and type of calligraphy. Thirdly, is to uncover the themes of the calligraphy, the sources of quotation and its meanings. Fourthly, is to discover the underlying factors and forces that influence the production of these art works; and finally, to discern the spiritual manifestation from the art works. This study, which covers contemporary art works of Malaysian artists since 1940’s until 2005, managed to give a better picture on aspects that have been neglected by the art historians regarding Islamic and Western impact on the art of Malaysia. In doing so, the researcher is inclining to the theory of Iconology proposed by Erwin Panofsky that covers three levels of analysis, i.e. the pre-iconographical description, iconological analysis and iconographical interpretation

Reflections on the flow of emotion in environmental research

In this article I provide a reflexive account of my emotions both prior to and during fieldwork. I begin with a personal narrative that explores my motivations for conducting a study on a pertinent environmental issue – river pollution. My comparative ethnographic fieldwork in two different socio-cultural and environmental settings, that of the Klang River in Kuala Lumpur and the Torrens River in Adelaide, yielded stories, pictures, and/or a spectrum of emotions about people’s interactions with the rivers, some of which resonated with my own. On the one hand, positive emotions during fieldwork were triggered, for example, when I observed colourful flora and fauna in certain section of the rivers. On the other hand, I experienced negative feelings when I observed floating rubbish and trash racks installed across the rivers. I describe these personal fieldwork experiences, alongside a discussion about my own reflections. Finally, and in light of my fieldwork experience, I briefly suggest implications for ethnographic research and methodological practice

El impacto de la estrategia de mejora de recursos en el rendimiento de las pequeñas empresas

The objective of this study is to examine the impact of resource enhancement strategy in improving the performance of small business firms in Malaysia. A self-administered survey and simple random sampling technique were conducted by making 221 owners-managers of small business firms as a sample of the study. The data were analyzed using a two-stage approach to structural equation modeling (SEM). The results indicated that resource enhancement strategy has a positive and significant impact on improving small businesses' performance. The practical findings provide a much clearer conceptualization of how resource enhancement strategy overcomes the issue of competitiveness in a new venture and small business firms.El objetivo de este estudio es examinar el impacto de la estrategia de mejora de recursos en la mejora del desempeño de las pequeñas empresas en Malasia. Se realizó una encuesta auto administrada y una técnica de muestreo aleatorio simple al hacer 221 propietarios-gerentes de empresas pequeñas como muestra del estudio. Los datos se analizaron utilizando un enfoque de dos etapas del modelado de ecuaciones estructurales (SEM). Los resultados indicaron que la estrategia de mejora de recursos tiene un impacto positivo y significativo en la mejora del rendimiento de las pequeñas empresas. Los resultados prácticos proporcionan una conceptualización mucho más clara de cómo la estrategia de mejora de recursos supera el problema de la competitividad en una nueva empresa y pequeñas empresas

Placenta praevia: Preach and perception

Placenta praevia is a known obstetric condition that causes complications to mother and fetus. This study was done to evaluate the knowledge of placenta praevia amongst the obstetric patients. A cross sectional study was carried out in Hospital Ipoh, Perak among 323 antenatal and postnatal patients. Socio-demographic parameters (ie age, race, parity, occupation, educational level) and history of placenta praevia were studied in relation to level of knowledge and attitude towards placenta praevia. Twenty (6.2%) from 323 women had current or past history of placenta praevia. Three had history of placenta praevia while 17 had current placenta praevia with prevalence of 5.3%. The mean score of knowledge achieved by patients was 11.8 which indicated overall poor knowledge. Occupation, level of education and history of placenta praevia were found to have a relationship with level of knowledge regarding placenta praevia in all obstetric patients. There was a significant relationship between attitude of patients with current and history of placenta praevia to level of knowledge regarding placenta praevia. (p=0.037, <0.05). In conclusion, the knowledge and attitude towards placenta praevia among obstetric patients in Hospital Ipoh was better in those who had higher education status, white-collar occupation and currently pregnant with placenta praevi

Laporan cadangan merekabentuk dalaman bagi Hotel Seri Iskandar, Jalan Dataran Persiaran 2, 32610 Taman Seri Iskandar, Perak Darul Ridzuan / Nor Azlin Yaakop

Projek akhir ini merupakan cadangan membina sebuah hotel milik Syarikat Dayatama Sdn. Bhd. yang berlokasi di Bandar Teknologi seri Iskandar. Tujuan kajian ini dijalankan adalah untuk mereka bentuk dalaman hotel tersebut. Selain Itu juga, membantu En. Mohammad yakni pengarah hotel tersebut dalam memberikan info berkaitan jenis-jenis ruang yang diperkenalkan dalam ruang hotel tersebut. Beliau mengharapkan dapat memberikan kemudahan kepada pengunjung yang singgah. Rekaan yang dicadangkan adalah bertemakan ‘Rumah Traditional’. Kaedah kajian yang telah dilakukan termasuklah kajian pemilihan tapak, kajian temuramah, kajian pemerhatian, kajian kes dan kajian dengan membuat soal selidik. Kajian dijalankan di hotel beliau yang telah ada di Lumut. Tujuannya adalah untuk mengkaji kelebihan dan kelemahan yang terdapat di dalam hotel yang sedia ada. Kajian-kajian dan pengumpulan data ini akan diterapkan dalam rekabentuk Hotel Seri Iskandar yang akan dibuka nanti dan juga mendapatkan rekabentuk yang selesa dan menarik di samping imej dan gaya yang tersendiri. Objektif utama rekebentuk ini ialah mencadangkan skema wama yang sesuai mengikut konsep, mereka rekaan yang berpatutan dengan harga yang sesuai, memberikan perkhidmatan dan kemudahan yang berkualiti dan berkesan. Beliau mengharapkan hotelnya dapat menghasilkan beberapa jenis bilik yang pelbagai. Disamping menyediakan kemudahan tambahan kepada pengunjung seperti cafe dan bilik persidangan. Segala masalah dirujuk berdasarkan kajian yang dijalankan agar dapat menyelesaikan masalah yang dihadapi oleh rekaan hotel tersebut

Development of PPS' document management system towards integration in producing an efficient performance / Nor Azlin Rosli

This report was focused on Development on PPS' Document Management System towards Integration in Producing an Efficient Performance. The purpose of this project was to make integration between the eDMS (Enterprise Document Management System) and other application that existed especially with the e-mail application used and to make an enhancement on the eDMS interface to have more functionality. This project was basically developed for Centre for Strategic Planning, one of the departments in MARA University of Technology (UITM), Shah Alam. The eDMS is actually the Enterprise Document Management System which is used to manage all the important document, data and information that have been handled by this department. The Intranet is an ever changing medium that has been used to get connected with each other. A hybrid methodology taken from Knowledge Management Methodology and the EDMS Methodology will be mainly used in this project development which it consists of six phase that is planning, analysis, procurement, installation and testing, followed by development, implementation and finally the post implementation review for the project development. In order to meet the aim stated, a study had been made which started with problem investigation and ended with the development of the system. The Lotus Software such as Lotus Domino.Doc, Lotus Notes, and Lotus Domino Designer were used in the development of the eDMS

Cadangan rekabentuk dalaman Kedai Strawberi di Cameron Highland Healty Strawberry Farm, Jalan Rumah Persekutuan (Federal House) 39000 Tanah Rata, Cameron Highland. / Nor Azlin Shafii

Tujuan laporan ini dibuat untuk mengkaji, bagi projek akhir Diploma Senibina Dalaman. Tajuk projek yang dicadangkan ialah “ Cadangan Merekabentuk Ruang Dalaman “ strawberry shop” ataupun kedai strawberi di “ Food Court” Tanah Rata, 39000 Cameron Highland. Bagi projek semester akhir penulis telah memilih skop dalam kedai strawberi. Rekaan kedai strawberi merupakan salah satu cabang dalam Rekabentuk Dalaman yang memerlukan pemikiran yang strategik dan kefahaman yang tinggi dalam prinsip rekabentuk yang melibatkan aspek-aspek yang menitikberatkan elemen-elemen daya penarik untuk meraih pelanggan dan memberi suasana yang sesuai dengan sasaran pelanggan selain daripada aspek-aspek psikologi, teknikal dan binaan. Kesemua data dan maklumat kajian dihasilkan dalam bentuk tulisan, diterangkan melalui graf dan gambarajah untuk memberikan panduan visual yang mudah difahami.
