On the Dynamics of Induced Maps on the Space of Probability Measures

For the generic continuous map and for the generic homeomorphism of the Cantor space, we study the dynamics of the induced map on the space of probability measures, with emphasis on the notions of Li-Yorke chaos, topological entropy, equicontinuity, chain continuity, chain mixing, shadowing and recurrence. We also establish some results concerning induced maps that hold on arbitrary compact metric spaces.Comment: 23 page

CHALLENGES TO THE BRAZILIAN AGROFOOD INDUSTRY IN THE GLOBAL MARKET

Abstract Globalization has been deeply discussed revolving around a theoretical and ideological contention concerning this many-sided transformation with which, in one way or another, all countries have become entangled. Whatever the course of the discussion, competitiveness has become the key question in the international economic relations of the last decade, when most countries started opening up their economies to the external flows of trade and investment. The core of this analysis indicates the challenges facing Brazil in the international market when differentiated products appear to dominate trade relation. The discussion explores the extent to which foreign direct investment can change the conditions under which the country can boost its international competitiveness. As it will be argued here, the process of opening up the Brazilian economy in the 1990s has so far only consolidated the countrys position as a commodity exporter, whereas the mainstream of the international market has consisted of processed and differentiated products

Pilot to Program: The full integration of PebblePad eportfolio learning into a Bachelor of Nursing course

    Get PDF
ePortfolio e-learning has moved student learning from the didactic model to a student-led focus. The integration of PebblePad eportfolio learning has allowed students to take ownership of their learning in units where PebblePad is integrated, and what is evident is that students want ownership of all their learning and achievements throughout their nurse education

secCl is a cys-loop ion channel necessary for the chloride conductance that mediates hormone-induced fluid secretion in Drosophila

Organisms use circulating diuretic hormones to control water balance (osmolarity), thereby avoiding dehydration and managing excretion of waste products. The hormones act through G-protein-coupled receptors to activate second messenger systems that in turn control the permeability of secretory epithelia to ions like chloride. In insects, the chloride channel mediating the effects of diuretic hormones was unknown. Surprisingly, we find a pentameric, cys-loop chloride channel, a type of channel normally associated with neurotransmission, mediating hormone-induced transepithelial chloride conductance. This discovery is important because: 1) it describes an unexpected role for pentameric receptors in the membrane permeability of secretory epithelial cells, and 2) it suggests that neurotransmitter-gated ion channels may have evolved from channels involved in secretion

The development of student nurses’ knowledge and skills in the Murdoch University (MU) undergraduate Bachelor of Nursing (BN) course is assessed against the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia [NMBA] (2016) Registered Nurse standards for practice, using the NMBA framework for assessing standards for practice (NMBA, 2015)..

METABOLISM STUDIES WITH ALGIN AND GELATIN

    Get PDF
Algin, a salt of alginic acid extracted from kelp, and gelatin, produced from animal bones and skins, are used as stabilizing agents in the manufacture of ice cream and in certain other food products. Studies were conducted over a period of 10 weeks to determine the nutritive effects of the vegetable gum of algin and the protein of gelatin. The apparent digestibility of algin varied directly with the level fed. Algin was utilized efficiently after absorption. Gelatin was highly digested irrespective of the level fed, but more food was required per unit increase in live weight. No characteriztic symptoms were noted that couldbe attributed to acute or chroninic toxicity. Both algin and gelatin were found to be wholesome foods

Anisotropy of the space orientation of radio sources. I: The catalog

A catalog of the extended extragalactic radio sources consisting of 10461 objects is compiled based on the list of radio sources of the FIRST survey. A total of 1801 objects are identified with galaxies and quasars of the SDSS survey and the Veron-Veron catalog. The distribution of the position angles of the axes of radio sources from the catalog is determined, and the probability that this distribution is equiprobable is shown to be less then 10^(-7). This result implies that at Z equal to or smaller then 0.5, spatial orientation of the axes of radio sources is anisotropic at a statistically significant level.Comment: 8 pages, 7 figure

Stability Estimates for an Inverse Problem for the Linear Boltzmann Equation

In this paper we consider the inverse problem of recovering the total extinction coefficient and the collision kernel for the time-dependent Boltzmann equation via boundary measurements. We obtain stability estimates for the extinction coefficient in terms of the albedo operator and also an identification result for the collision kernel. In this paper we consider the inverse problem of recovering the total extinction coefficient and the collision kernel for the time-dependent Boltzmann equation via boundary measurements.
