Nuclear effects on lepton polarization in charged-current quasielastic neutrino scattering

We use a correlated local Fermi gas (LFG) model, which accounts also for long distance corrections of the RPA type and final-state interactions, to compute the polarization of the final lepton in charged-current quasielastic neutrino scattering. The present model has been successfully used in recent studies of inclusive neutrino nucleus processes and muon capture. We investigate the relevance of nuclear effects in the particular case of $\tau$ polarization in tau-neutrino induced reactions for several kinematics of relevance for neutrino oscillation experiments.Comment: 13 pages, 8 figure

La opinión pública sobre el empleo turístico en la Comunidad Valenciana

The residents’ opinions about the characteristics of employment in the tourism in the Valencia Region (Spain) are analyzed. Three hypotheses are proposed: a) tourism is an economic activity evaluated positively by the host population because it is identified as an important generator of employment and wealth; b) but people recognize that working conditions in the tourism sector are worse than those of other economic activities; c) those people most related to tourism are more likely to accept the activity and positively assess their working conditions.Se analiza la opinión de los residentes en la Comunidad Valenciana (España) sobre las características del empleo en el sector turístico. Se plantean tres hipótesis: el turismo es una actividad económica valorada positivamente por la población de acogida, pues se identifica como un importante generador de empleo y riqueza; la opinión general es que las condicioneslaborales en el sector turístico son peores que las de otras actividades económicas; y en tercer lugar, las personas más vinculadas al turismo son más proclives a aceptar la actividad y a valorar positivamente sus condiciones laborales

Nonparametric estimation of directional highest density regions

Highest density regions (HDRs) are defined as level sets containing sample points of relatively high density. Although Euclidean HDR estimation from a random sample, generated from the underlying density, has been widely considered in the statistical literature, this problem has not been contemplated for directional data yet. In this work, directional HDRs are formally defined and plug-in estimators based on kernel smoothing and associated confidence regions are proposed. We also provide a new suitable bootstrap bandwidth selector for plug-in HDRs estimation based on the minimization of an error criteria that involves the Hausdorff distance between the boundaries of the theoretical and estimated HDRs. An extensive simulation study shows the performance of the resulting estimator for the circle and for the sphere. The Image of the Mayors of Valladolid Through Pictures From Diario Regional (Local Newspaper) and Hoja del Lunes (Monday Leaf) (1961-1984)

The pictures of the Mayors that governed during the Late Francoism and the beginning of the democracy between 1961 and 1984, belonging to the fund of the Town Archives of Valladolid, were taken by professionals working for Diario Regional (Local Newspaper) and Hoja del Lunes (Monday Leaf). In the recent article, an analysis based on photographic documents is done in order to construct the image of the Town Councillors deepening into the history of the town and its celebrities, the press and the photography. The archives of photographic documents contribute in the creation of stories that shape the imaginary image of a society. In these documents the official character of the pictures is maintained during all the mandates due to the fact that in Valladolid the change initiated on national level in the middle of the sixties is hardly noticed

QSAR modeling of anticancer activity of heterocyclichydrazone

In this study, validated PLS-DA models that discriminate heterocyclichydrazones with potent anticancer activity (GI50/IC50=50x10- 6M) against the cancer cell lines HCT-116 (colon), OVCAR-8 (human ovary), HL-60 (leukemia), and SF-295 (glioblastoma) were developed. A dataset of 24-a-(N)-heterocyclichydrazones and 14 N-acylhydrazonyl-thienyl and various global and local reactivity descriptors were used for modeling. The best models classified for training and test sets with an accuracy range between 67-100%, a class specificity and sensitivity range between 71-100%, error rate range between 0-0.27, and nonerror rate range between 0.73-1.0. An external set of 20 compounds was predicted and the models showed which new compounds are not suggested for further biological investigation. The molecular properties with impact on the modeled endpoints show that the antitumor activity can be improved with electron-acceptor N-acylhydrazonyl-thienyl derivatives and a-(N)-heterocyclichydrazones with moderate electron-donating character.Fil: Rodríguez, María Rosa.
