    Migración haitiana en Santiago de Chile: Expulsiones, imaginarios e inserción social en un Estado-nación neoliberal

    The objective of this article is to characterize and analyze Haitian migration in Chile, in the global context in which it occurs, addressing it from a micro and meso level, understanding from its subjectivities the vulnerable relationships established with the different actors with which they interact in life daily and the role they play in the gradual transformation of social and work spaces. The type of research is qualitative, through the ethnographic method. It is observed that Haitian migration is a challenge for the Chilean State in terms of demand for services and coexistence, located in the field of economic, social, political and cultural rights. Particularly, Haitian migration anthropologically questions the idea of Chilean spatial, temporal and identity boundaries, offering various plans on the possibility of improving their lives and overcoming the barriers they face in a neo-liberal society. It is concluded that Haitians tend to be racialized and excluded, being subalternized, however, to the extent that they manage to work in a stable manner, they are inserted and even generate a willingness to take root considering that the possibility of returning to Haiti is quite uncertain, given the serious political-economic problems from your country of origin.El objetivo del presente artículo es caracterizar y analizar la migración haitiana en Chile, en el contexto global en que ocurre, abordándolo desde un nivel micro y meso, comprendiendo desde sus subjetividades las vulnerables relaciones que establecen con los distintos actores con que interactúan en la vida cotidiana y el papel que juegan en la paulatina transformación de espacios sociales y laborales. El tipo de investigación es cualitativo, a través del método etnográfico. Se observa que la migración haitiana en un desafío para el Estado chileno en términos de demanda de servicios y convivencia, ubicado en el ámbito de los derechos económicos, sociales, políticos y culturales. Particularmente la migración haitiana cuestiona antropológicamente la idea de los límites espaciales, temporales e identitarios chilenos, ofreciendo diversos planos sobre la posibilidad de mejorar su vida y superar las barreras que enfrentan en una sociedad neoliberal. Se concluye que los/as haitianos/as tienden a ser racializados y excluidos, quedando subalternizados, sin embargo, en la medida que logran trabajar de manera estable, se insertan e incluso generan una disposición al arraigo considerando que la posibilidad del regreso hacia Haití es bastante incierta, dados los graves problemas político-económicos de su país de origen

    Application of Public Private Partnerships to the Spanish Airport System

    The current deficit situation of the Spanish airport system suggests the need to manage this in a more efficient and profitable way. One of the possible options is through private management and being able to do this through Public Private Partnerships (PPP). This study analyzes the situation of the sector and its economic importance and the different possibilities for introducing private management in a public company, specifying the situation in the case of airports, presenting the advantages and disadvantages of these possibilities, and aiming at results obtained in other places where it has been applied. It is proposed that the ideal model for the introduction of private management would be through PPP models tailored to each airport, but having common characteristics according to the group they belong to. Finally, we observe that not all airports are commercially attractive, so that the PPP concept does not apply to all of them. In some cases even the operability itself is not viable at all, and that should be considered separately in order to avoid creating a private monopoly while trying to enhance competition among them

    El plan de mejoramiento que se va a desarrollar en Rincotrans Transporte Especial S.A.S radica fundamentalmente en el área operativa de la empresa, el cual tiene como objetivo estudiar y plantear cambios en todos los procesos que esta área enlaza, con el fin de optimizar, mejorar y fortalecer las actividades de la prestación del servicio de transporte, ejecutando de una forma más efectiva los procesos internos, los cuales estén debidamente organizados y puedan brindar un excelente servicio a través de la toma y retoma de los servicios de transporte especial. Se busca implementar los diferentes procesos del área operativa de la compañía, a través de una descripción y análisis de cada una de las actividades que los componen, permitiendo realizar un diagnóstico de la situación actual de la empresa y determinar las posibles soluciones a las problemáticas que presenta en las diferentes modalidades de servicio que ofrece. Por otra parte, el proceso de investigación se desarrolló con 65 usuarios que solicitaron algún tipo de servicio de transporte especial entre junio y noviembre del 2020, mediante el desarrollo de las siguientes fases: diagnóstico, diseño, aplicación, incorporación y evaluación del plan de mejoramiento. Finalmente se puede concluir que la empresa presenta varios problemas en el área operativa, como la falta de personal capacitado para adquirir y ejecutar los contratos de los servicios, falta de gestión documental y cumplimiento de las normas en términos de transporte, control de calidad a los vehículos y evaluación del servicio, por lo anterior ha perdido algunas opciones de contratación y posibles recontrataciones.The improvement plan that is going to be developed in Rincotrans Transporte Especial SAS lies fundamentally in the operational area of the company, which aims to study and propose changes in all the processes that this area links, in order to optimize, improve and Strengthen the activities of the provision of the transport service, executing in a more effective way the internal processes, which are properly organized and can provide an excellent service through the taking and retaking of the special transport services. It seeks to implement the different processes of the operational area of the company, through a description and analysis of each of the activities that compose them, allowing to carry out a diagnosis of the current situation of the company and determine the possible solutions to the problems that It presents in the different types of service it offers. On the other hand, the research process was developed with 65 users who requested some type of special transport service between June and November 2020, through the development of the following phases: diagnosis, design, application, incorporation and evaluation of the improvement plan. Finally, it can be concluded that the company has several problems in the operational area, such as the lack of trained personnel to acquire and execute the service contracts, lack of document management and compliance with the regulations in terms of transport, quality control to the vehicles and service evaluation, therefore it has lost some hiring options and possible rehiring

    The Fougueux (1785-1805): prototype of an 18th–19th century French construction method

    The 74-gun French ship Fougueux (1785-1805) belonged to the Spanish-French fleet that faced the British in the Battle of Trafalgar on 21 October 1805. This warship was lost off the coast of Sancti Petri after the battle. About two centuries later, an array of iron cannons and wooden remains were studied at this site by the Underwater Archaeology Centre of Andalusia. This paper presents the results of the analysis of the ship’s construction method, whose particularities place it within the tradition of French naval construction between the late 18th century and early 19th century.Le navire français de 74 canons Le Fougueux (1785-1805) appartenait à la flotte franco-espagnole qui affronta les Britanniques lors de la bataille de Trafalgar le 21 octobre 1805. Ce navire de guerre fut perdu au large de Sancti Petri après la bataille. Environ deux siècles plus tard, un ensemble de canons de fer et de vestiges en bois ont été étudiés sur ce site par le Centre d’archéologie sousmarine d’Andalousie.     Active commuting is associated with a lower risk of obesity, diabetes and metabolic syndrome in Chilean adults

    Background: There is limited evidence on how active commuting is associated with health benefits in developing countries. The aim of this study therefore was to investigate the associations between active commuting and markers of adiposity and cardiometabolic risk in the Chilean adult population. Methods: In total, 5157 participants from the Chilean National Health Survey 2009–10 were included in this cross-sectional study. Active commuting was measured using the Global Physical Activity Questionnaire (GPAQ v2). Body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference (WC) were measured and used to define obesity and central obesity. Type 2 diabetes (T2D) and metabolic syndrome were determined using WHO and updated ATPIII-NCEP criteria, respectively. Results: The main finding of this study is that a 30 min increase in active commuting is associated with lower odds for BMI > 25.0 kg m−2 (0.93 [95% CI: 0.88–0.98, P = 0.010]). Similarly, the odds for central obesity was 0.87 [0.82–0.92, P < 0.0001]. Similar associations were found for T2D (0.81 [0.75–0.88], P < 0.0001) and metabolic syndrome (OR: 0.86 [0.80–0.92], P < 0.0001). Conclusion: Our findings show that active commuting is associated with lower adiposity and a healthier metabolic profile including lower risk for obesity, diabetes and metabolic syndrome

    Factores asociados a sedentarismo en Chile: evidencia de la Encuesta Nacional de Salud 2009-2010 = Correlates of sedentary behaviors in Chile: evidence from the National Health Survey 2009-2010

    Sedentary behaviors are one of the major risk factors for cardiovascular diseases. To identify factors associated with high sedentary behaviors in the Chilean population. We included 5,040 participants from the Chilean National Health Survey 2009-2010. Physical activity level and sedentary behavior (sitting time) were measured using the Global Physical Activity Questionnaire (GPAQ v2). Highly sedentary behaviors were determined as > 4 hours per day of sitting time. Logistic regression was used to identify correlates of highly sedentary behavior. Forty seven percent of the study population reported spending more than 4 hours per day sitting. The prevalence was higher in women. The main factors associated with high sedentary behavior were: high income levels (Odds ratio (OR):1.91 [95% Confidence intervals (CI:1.61-2.27]); being woman (OR:1.39 [95% CI:1.24-1.56]): having central obesity (OR:1.15 [95% CI:1.02-1.30]), being physically inactive (OR:2.35 [95% CI:2.06-2.68]), and living in an urban area (OR:1.92 [95% CI:1.63-2.26]). Other factors associates with high sedentary behavior were: being smoker, having a television set, computer and private car at their homes. Participants reporting a poor self-reported health and wellbeing and those with diabetes or metabolic syndrome were more likely to be highly sedentary.
