Mass Transfer Modelling for Compact Hybrid Membrane-Amine System in Removal of C02 from Natural Gas

The removal of CO2 from natural gas down to the pipeline quality is an important step before the natural gas can be sold to the end users. Typical natural gas treatment's specification requires that the composition of CO2 in the treated gas cannot be more than 2 mole%. Normally amine scrubbing process is extensively used to treat natural gas with low content of CO2. However, this is not efficient in dealing with natural gas with high CO2 content. Therefore, there is a proposal of using hybrid system in sequencing of membrane for bulk CO2 removal followed by amine solution for absorption process. However, there are some disadvantages for the hybrid system such as not applicable in offshore. All the disadvantages of the hybrid system will be overcome if the compact hybrid membrane-absorption column is brought into operation. This system uses the concept in which amine absorption is integrated together with the membrane permeation. The feedgas will flow along the membrane and permeate through the membrane and then will be absorbed into the amine solution. The main objective of this work is to develop a mathematical model for the removal of CO2 from natural gas in compact hybrid membrane amine system. The model has analyzed the permeability of CO2 and methane across membrane followed by absorption of CO2 in amine solution. The effect of various parameters, which consist of concentration of CO2 in feed gas, operating pressure of feed gas, flow rate of amine solution and membrane pore size, towards the permeability and separation factor of the compact hybrid membrane-amine system has been analyzed systematically. The model is developed using MATHCAD version 2000i and Microsoft Excel to represent the mass transfer of CO2 in the compact hybrid membrane-amine system. The performance of membrane separation is determined by the permeability of each component through the membrane and selectivity of the membrane for each component in the mixture. Based on the mathematical model developed, it was found that the permeability of CO2 and methane was independent of the concentration of each component in the feed gas. However, the permeability of CO2 and methane was a strong function of operating pressure at the feed gas and membrane pore size due to the effect of surface diffusion at small pore sizes, but this effect was lost at bigger pore sizes. For amine absorption, the mathematical model showed that the separation factor for removal of C02 from natural gas using compact hybrid membrane-amine system was strongly dependent on concentration of CO2 in the natural gas as well as flow rate of amine solution due to its effect on the rate of absorption. However, operating pressure of feed gas does not show any effect on the separation factor of CO2 removal. The model for compact hybrid membrane-amine absorption system is successfully developed and various operating parameters have been studied and discussed in the later section of this report

On November 3, 1978, Vietnam and the Soviet Union signed the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation, signaling a fresh and significant development in many domains, both in breadth and depth, which had a significant impact on the development of the two countries. This is seen as a "golden period" in particular for business connections between Vietnam and the Soviet Union. When both Vietnam and the Soviet Union began the process of "reforming" and "renovating" their respective nations in 1986, the two nations' economic connections continued to experience qualitative advancements. Vietnam was able to begin the process of rehabilitation and national construction with a strong economic foundation thanks to the Soviet Union's backing and aid during the years 1986 to 1991.  Article visualizations

The photocatalytic activity of g-C3N4/Ta2O5 composite under visible light irradiation

    Get PDF
The g-C3N4/Ta2O5 composites were synthesized by heating mixtures of urea and Ta2O5 at 500 oC. The as-prepared samples were denoted as CN-500/TaO-W, where W is weight ratio of urea/Ta2O5 and equals to 3, 4 and 5. The materials were characterized by X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and Ultraviolet-visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy. The photocatalytic activity of CN-500/TaO-W samples was assessed by degradation of methylene blue in aqueous solution under visible light. Among them, CN-500/TaO-4 exhibited the best performance. An enhancement in photocatalytic activity of the composites is believed to be the presence of g-C3N4. Keywords. g-C3N4, Ta2O5, photocatalytic activity, methylene blue, g-C3N4/Ta2O5 composite

Fiscal Policies, Inequality, and Poverty in Croatia

    Get PDF
In a fiscally expansionary context, policy makers in Croatia must keep in mind the redistributive role of fiscal policies, particularly their impact on inequality and poverty. This paper uses both household survey data and national accounts to estimate how in 2018 the Croatian fiscal system affected income distribution and poverty. Moreover, it assesses the individual and the combined effects of interventions like direct and indirect taxes and social spending. The analysis found that in 2018 the fiscal system helped to reduce inequality but also increased poverty. All fiscal interventions except indirect taxes (VAT and excises) reduced inequality. However, indirect taxes not only widened the income gap between rich and poor but also increased poverty—only direct transfers had poverty reducing effects. Direct taxes (personal income tax [PIT] and property taxes) had no impact on poverty in 2018. A series of reforms introduced between 2018 and 2021 helped reduce poverty slightly, mainly because the VAT on some food items was lowered. However, these reforms pushed up inequality, mostly because PIT reforms reduced the tax burden for those with high incomes

Performance Analysis of Gradient Inversion Attack in Federated Learning with Healthcare Systems

Federated learning (FL) is widely applied to healthcare systems with the primary aim of keeping the privacy of patient's data while improving classification quality by using knowledge from multiple participants. However, the training images are believed to be embedded into the shared gradient, which indicates a privacy risk when sharing the gradient with other participants in FL. Therefore, this work aims to design and evaluate an image recovery attack on medical images. More specifically, dummy images are trained to match the dummy gradient to the shared gradient while maintaining the smoothness and naturalness of reconstructed images. On the adversary side, an optimization problem is formulated with variables of dummy images and network parameters treated as constants. We evaluate the gradient attack on two medical datasets and reconstructed images clearly show the details of chest X-ray and MRI images including bone and blood vessels of captured areas. Our work aims to increase the awareness of people on sharing the gradient in FL, especially in healthcare systems
